James Farmer: Home Again Book Review

Not one to pass up a gorgeous design book, when James Farmer’s PR firm reached out about sending a copy of his new book Home Again, of course I said yes! James Farmer is one of my very favorite designers and he’s right here in Perry, GA. I got to meet him in person one time at ADAC and he is just as down to earth and friendly as you would imagine him to be if you follow his Instagram account. James is a talented traditional designer and his books are filled with inspiring pictures and stories of his clients who are all over the country. After living there for 10 years, James did an update to his beloved Farmdale, his own home and he shows all of this in the book too, so you will love having this book to reference over and over again when looking for ideas and inspiration.

I’ve so enjoyed turning the pages of this beautiful book and the photos by famed photographer, Emily Followill, will not disappoint. She’s amazing!

You will definitely enjoy seeing these homes and hearing James’ own words as he describes them.

James features several of his clients and shows off the homes after he has done his thing and they are all comfortable, beautiful and inspiring.

His style is definitely Southern traditional and his signature mark of mixing many patterns, textures and colors is apparent.

No one does it better than James, in my opinion.

James covers his own renovation and updates at his own home, Farmdale, and I really enjoyed seeing all he has done to update.

This is Farmdale above and he did renovations to several areas, including the kitchen.

If you love design books, this one is a must. You’ll add it to your coffee table and enjoy it for years to come.

James has a knack for telling stories of the homeowners and you can see their collected over time look that’s so pleasing to the eye. He layers fabrics and furnishings better than anyone.

I’m so inspired by James and his designs and I know you will be too. (Affiliate link) You can find the book on Amazon here!

What a beautiful book and photos. I’m very sorry but whatever the bold background the book was on was very distracting and made it difficult to enjoy the photos. At first I was not sure if the pattern was part of the photo in the book or not. Would it be possible to see the photos again without the bold background? Vicki

Hi, Vicki, that’s a rug, didn’t mean to be distracting, but sorry I’m not taking the pics over again.

Don’t be! I feel that way when I go in high end showrooms. Makes me want to chuck it all and start over, but we can’t do that. Enjoy what we do have!

What a beautiful book! I wondered, as did Vicki, about the pictures. I thought the blue-patterned background was part of the design! AND THEN I figured out you were showing pictures from the book, and it was opened on your rug on the ground. Okay, I get it! (It takes me a while!). Nevertheless, I ordered the book. It will be beautiful on our coffee table! Thank you!!!

I do like James Farmer’s style, reminds me a bit of Dan Carithers, whose style I loved. Thanks for the review.

Yes they do have similar styles. It’s great to see the younger designers carrying on traditional design.

Checking out his previous release ‘ Arriving Home’ from the library. Will look for the new book after the September release.
