I’m joining a few other bloggers today on the topic of looking our best. Lord knows, we all want to look our best, don’t we? I sure do! Even though some days I get lazy, I do like feeling cute and dressing up in a stylish outfit and a new haircut can do wonders for my self-esteem.
Last week, I went to a brand new hair stylist who really nailed my hair, in a good way. I have some crazy wild, unruly, THICK hair that not a lot of hair stylists can really tame. But this new girl did it! She gave me a great cut, flat-ironed it and I left feeling pretty darn good. She’s got a new customer in me! Some of you saw this pic over on my Facebook page last week. I can’t fix it exactly like my hair stylist, but I think I came pretty close to this when I styled myself. I need 4 arms to do it like she does, do you feel that way too?
So, what are your favorite beauty tools for hair and skin? Let’s dish some beauty secrets!
I use hair products for frizzy hair (currently using Redken Smooth shampoo and conditioner) and usually use a hair serum and de-frizz spray. Do you have any great hair products you’d like to share with me on taming unruly hair. I wash my hair about 3 times a week and I don’t always flat iron it either. With this hair style, I can wear it messy too if I want or I can tame it with the flat iron, which I usually do.
How about you? Got any great beauty tips you’d like to share on hair or makeup? What are your favorite beauty tools.
I love my makeup brushes and use them every day that I put on makeup. And I love my Bare Minerals makeup too. I also love Olay’s Filling & Sealing cream in a tube before I put on my mineral makeup. I feel like it’s spackle for the face! 🙂
I’m joining some other bloggers on this topic over at Blogher.com and would love for you to stop by there and leave your comments too. There’s a lot of great beauty tool tips shared. And there’s a Life Well Lived sweepstakes going on as well that you can sign up for.
I’m not getting paid for this, but thought it was a fun topic to talk about!
Rhoda, the new “do” is a great update! So refreshing! I’m always late to the party, but wanted to add my favorites. Here are my top 5: CeraVe moisturizer for the dry, winter months. It’s very economical and easy to find. Truly helps to combat dry skin! My mascara of choice is Loreal’s “Bare Naturale”. It’s $10 or less, and is the only one I’ve found that doesn’t clump. I hope it’s not being discontinued as I’m finding it harder & harder to locate. Foundation is the only product where I spend more money. This is because I don’t have the smoothest skin and the drug store foundations just don’t work as well for me. I really like Tarte’s “ReCreate Foundation” with SPF 15 UVA/UVB broad spectrum. The warm bisque color is a perfect match for my skin tone…FYI for any of you ladies out there with yellow undertones, bisque is usually a good color choice. Garnier Fructis makes 2 of my favorite hair products. I use the Anti-frizz serum daily for fly-aways and frizz, and for our rainy days here in GA, I add the Anti-humidity smoothing milk for double protection. I love learning about products and tips from other women. Maybe I’ll start my own blog one of these days:)
Great do Rhoda!
You look even more fabulous and beautiful, Rhoda! Your new haircut is so chic and sophisticated!!! Just love it and wish your hairstylist was here in Texas so I could try her out too with my thick, curly hair. I’ve been using Kerastase Oleo Relax or Bumble and Bumble straightening products on mine for the last five or more years. Love them both equally. Always get compliments on my shiny locks when I use either one in conjunction with a medium round brush and an ion hair dryer. Now if I could only find a great hairstylist like yours! Other beauty goodies I love are Green Cream 6 and 9, revolutionary retinol product created by a New Orleans woman dermatologist with a highest percentage of retinol without a prescription and won’t dry out your skin. Love Chanel Double Perfection powder or Mac Studio Fix powder for a beautiful, quick and easy coverage makeup that stays in place even in the hot, humid Texas summers. For evening and special occasion where I want a glow, I like Laura Mercer or Gerda Spillman cream foundations. They make you look glowey and airbrushed without the airbrush. It’s fun reading about everyone’s tips and tricks.
Forgot to mention my Clairsonic Mia. I thought I had better skin using my glycolic cleanser and Green cream or Retin A until I started using the Clairsonic Mia. Got one for my daughter for Christmas and had to get myself one after I saw the difference in her young skin. Now my skin is even more glowing and soft.
Rhoda, you look absolutely beautiful!! Love the new hairstyle! I recently changed up my hairstyle by using hot rollers for the first time in 20 years. 🙂
Cute new ‘do! I’m a hairstylist, so have some experience in hair products. The Redken shampoo and conditioner are great! I cringe when my clients tell me their color is fading or hair is breaking off and then tell me they are using Walgreen’s shampoo/conditioner! ALWAYS use professional! Not trying to sell it, it really is the best. The cheap stuff is loaded with fillers and water to dilute and are so bad for your hair!! I would recommend KENRA Blow-dry spray for blow drying and Sahag products are lightweight and smell wonderful! I use the Kenra BD spray, then Sahag No-Frizz, which is a lightweight gel(20 sprays on your hair) and blowdry. You can even use the No-frizz on dry hair to style on days you don’t shampoo, just spritz before you flat iron or curl. Then finish with Sahag Revitalizing drops. They are silicone drops that will give your hair luster and shine! They literally will last you a year(I keep 5 bottles on hand, in purse, car, bathroom, etc.). They are NOT oil, so won’t make your hair greasy. I don’t recommend anyone putting oil in their hair, however, people need to use what works best for their hair type. My hair is coarse and the drops give it beautiful shine! I use it on ALL my clients. Also, Kenra Dry Shampoo would be perfect for you on the days you don’t shampoo. It smells so delish, like candy, and works so well. You spray it on(mainly at the roots if they are the oiliest) and it gives your hair a fresh smell and looks like it was just shampooed. If you spray it on, flip your head upside down and shoot it with the dryer a few seconds(not too long since you fight frizz) it will give you some extra volume! Those are the products I LIVE by! ALSO, for anyone that has colored hair, volumizing shampoo is meant to pump up the cuticle, and in return opens the cuticle, which will release color. If you use volumizing shampoo and notice your color fading faster, that is why. Ask your colorist which shampoo will be right for you! If you invest in professional shampoo, you will save money over time by increasing time between your color touchups!! Ask your hairdresser for sample packs to try and see which ones you like best!!
Thank you all for chiming in on this & for the compliments on the hair. I’m really loving it a lot, so glad to have a great hair stylist. I’m going to take notes on some of these products to try!
I use AVON Moisture Therapy- body lotion, hand cream, extra strength cream (which I put on my face each night) and lip ointment. All old school but amazing moisturizers. All unscented. Your skin will be so soft!! Oh and Lash Blast Covergirl mascara. Love it.
I Love love love your newq hair style. It makes you look younger. You look beautiful…simply smashing!!
