We had some beautiful days in New Orleans and the weather most days was sunny and warmer than Atlanta has been, which was a welcome change. Those cold dreary days that happen this time of year are not so fun for weeks at a time, so it was nice to get a taste of spring down there.
One day, we hit Magazine Street for some browsing and looking, with the baby in tow in the stroller and had a nice day out and about. Magazine Street is a really long street with lots of shops and restaurants and it goes from the French Quarter to Uptown New Orleans. I’m starting to learn the lingo of where the various districts are, but still don’t know my way around.
We parked an started browsing at Nadeau, a fun furniture place with solid wood furniture in all sorts of styles and finishes. You may have one in your town, we have some in Atlanta.
They are always fun to browse, with unusual pieces and colors.
Magazine Street and the various shops where we were.
Another shop that was fun to browse, Discoveries. Reminded me of Pier One and World Market, lots of eclectic items.
This old Jeep was parked right inside the front door.
Lots of reclaimed wood furniture too, which is still all the rage.
Loved these large and colorful lidded jars.
Poofs and pillows and more.
Exotic lanterns.
Mirrors , stools and more poofs.
Unique mirrors and shelves.
Loved these rustic candlesticks in many colors.
A unique industrial light fixture.
More candlesticks and vintage style lidded glass jars.
And last, the state of Louisiana cut out and painted.
Next stop was Perch, a really cute and eclectic home décor shop. I met the owner or manager and she was very friendly.
Outside detail on the Perch shop. Someone had told me on Facebook to go here and they were right! So cute!
Lots of fun vintage items and new as well. Colors galore.
Vintage and new lighting.
Couldn’t help but notice these bunny heads. No, I didn’t buy more.
Colorful pillows.
Another colorful pillow and fireplace vignette.
Loved this French style bench and all those pillows.
Butterfly wallpaper in a room.
Pink/purple glass chandelier for the pink lovers.
White framed butterfly prints.
Room with fireplace and seating.
More colorful pillows.
Loved this lampshade, such pretty colors.
Walking down Magazine Street, noticed this on the side of a building. Very much the flavor of New Orleans, with music and people out and about.
After browsing Magazine Street for a couple of hours (we barely made a dent in seeing it all), we drove through some side streets and I took a few pics of the cute shotgun houses. I love all the details on these old shotguns, which are plentiful in New Orleans.
This one is a duplex, I think. Aren’t they cute?
Another pretty old house off Magazine Street.
Lauren said this is called a camelback shotgun, because they built on in the back and went up. Very unique and pretty. Love the character of these homes.
Decorated for Mardi Gras.
Loved the gray and yellow of this duplex shotgun house.
The shutters and gingerbread details are so pretty on this one.
Stately and beautiful home with a beautiful iron fence. This might be Greek Revival style.
There are so many pretty homes to see in New Orleans.
One more white Victorian with a turret. I so enjoy strolling and looking in New Orleans and this time it was really fun to get out and see more things. There is still plenty to see and do and I’m sure when I get down there again, I’ll get out for more tours. I still have a tour of the Garden District and French Quarter to share with y’all too!
Today is exciting for me personally here in my own city of Atlanta! Â I got a great feature in the Atlanta Journal & Constitution paper, in the Homefinders section (Private Quarters). Â So happy to get to show off my fixer-upper in this feature, along with a great pic of me and my dad. Â A photographer came out and did a photoshoot of my house and it is in the paper today! Â Happy Super Bowl Sunday! Â
Here’s the online link to all the pics for those of you not in Atlanta. Â Just click through the arrows on the right of the pictures to see all 25 of them. Â
Great pic of you and your dad in AJC.
Terrific write up in the AJC today!!
Going to New Orleans in 5 weeks. You are making me more and more excited!
I am in love with this beautiful city. We live 2-1/2 hours away and visit often. The food, the architecture, and the people are absolutely delightful! I am so glad you and your family were able to visit .
I love the photo of you and your sweet Daddy. What a treasure. The photo layout was great too!
I need to go shopping with you!
what a great article – it is amazing to see the big changes that were made in that amount of time – great photo of you and your dad 🙂
Wow, Rhoda — what a nice article, and the pics really do you and your dad proud. Congratulations!
My husband grew up on Magazine Street, way before it became the antique mecca it is today. We’ve lived in SC for over 40 years now, and he still misses New Orleans every day.
Love the pics of New Orleans houses & antique stores. I would dearly love to go there & check out the stores & other sights. Maybe in a year or so after I sell my current home & get settled in another one. AJC did a fabulous job in showing off your home. The pic of you & your Dad is priceless. You are so blessed to still have him with you.
Enjoying your pics of NOLA, my husband’s birthplace. Also delighted to see your lovely home in Sunday’s AJC. Keep up the good work, especially the fashion tips! Have a great day!
I love taking tours through your eyes of the places you visit. The pictures and article on your home are something to be proud of. You and your Daddy did a great job!
I can’t wait to see your other posts on New Orleans. What a wonderful feature in the AJC. You need to frame the picture of you and your dad!
Rhoda, Thanks for the magazine street, New. Orleans mini tour. I hope to visit one day! congrats on the newspaper article! loved the photo of you and your sweet dad. I hope to see your renovation story in one of the decor magazines one day. It’s a great story and your home is beautiful!
New Orleans is such a fun place. I wondered by many wonderful looking shops but didn’t stop in, as we were on a motorcycle. I learned later that most stores will ship. Let the shopping begin! Lol I would surely grab a bunch of those cotton balls.
Love the article on your renovated home, especially the picture of you and your dad.
Looks like there is lots to find and love on Magazine Street! I love this tour of New Orleans you are sharing- so fun!

Congratulations on the excellent feature in the ACJ! I am so glad they included the photo of you and your dad. The work you did on your home is amazing and such an inspiration for others.
Way to go Rhoda!
Loved the Magazine Street Tour Rhoda, thanks! The photo spread in the AJC was delightful, your home is such an amazing testament to what talented, clever people can do with a vanilla builders house to make it a truly unique and interesting home. The phrase, ‘you’ve come a long way baby’, surely is an apt description of your lovely home. You and your Father are a design/build team that deserves more recognition! That photo of the two of you is truly priceless, obviously renovating has been good for you, you both look younger, healthier and happier than ever!! How wonderful for you and your beautiful family. Thank you again for sharing the photos!
My house is the one with the maroon doors that you captioned…”This one is a duplex, I think. Aren’t they cute?” Yes, most of our houses are duplexes. They’re called Camelback Shotgun Doubles. Each side is only 12 feet wide by 80 feet long. Each side is a mirror image of the other. Boths sides have 3 BR and 2 BA. Must owners live in once side and rent the other. Our left side is a popular Airbnb property.
HI, Janice, thanks for stopping by, so glad you let me know that one of these houses is yours! That’s so neat, NOLA has such beautiful homes.
