It’s been 3 months since I shared with y’all that I’m planning a black and white master bath makeover at my house and I really thought it would be finished by now. Â But, it’s not! Â In fact, I have to wait another month before my contractor can get to me. Things have really picked up out there in the renovation business and these guys are staying busier than ever with people updating and renovating their homes instead of moving. Â So, that means I have to wait.
I had to change my original plans with my first choice contractors, the guys I’ve worked with before. Unfortunately, they just couldn’t promise when they could fit me in, so I moved on to another recommendation. Â I got a decent estimate from a referral from a blog friend, so I’m hoping this one turns out as good as I expect it to. You never know when you hire someone, so I’m taking a chance on this crew. Â I’ll share them all with you if things turn out the way I hope!
Tile from Floor and Decor, who is partnering with me on this project for my tile. Â
Vanity/Home Decorators Collection via Home Depot:  I love this vanity and it’s everything I hoped it would be.
Shower doors/Kohler  via Home Depot (these 3 items not sponsored, I purchased)
Wood and metal etagere via Joss and Main. Â I’ll use this piece in the corner with storage baskets for extra storage. Â This is not a very high-end piece, but it should do the job.
Hopefully you get an idea of how I’m putting this together with this design board. Â I Â shared the tile plans back in this bathroom post and have since then, chosen a vanity and glass sliding shower doors.
I’ve already got a blue/green paint color in there, but since things will need to be repainted anyway, I’m going to try a pretty new blue from the Magnolia Paint collection, called Rainy Days.
I still have to pick up my tile and supplies to get started in mid-June, so I will get that done soon and then the waiting begins! Â I’m super excited to get this bathroom updated. I know it will feel so fresh and energizing when I go in there every day and use it. Â The first time I take a shower in the new tiled shower will be a dream come true!
I chose sliding shower doors because I don’t have enough space in there for a door that swings, but these are pretty and semi-frameless, so they should be really pretty in there.

And here are 2 great pics of a bathroom remodel that Kelly from Lily Pad Cottage did at her parent’s house. You have to see the Before and Afters of this space!
I’m such a fan of black and white tile, because it’s timeless, classic and beautiful.
Making a classic choice is a good one that I don’t think I’ll regret down the road. I can change out colors in here and go any direction in the future.
Do you love black and white as much as I do? I hope you enjoyed the updates of my tiny master bath plans. I can hardly wait to get started!Â

I am so happy for you & your new bath will be so beautiful & fresh! When we bought our house & totally renovated it (via contractor) we purchased all of our tile from Floor & Decor just like you are doing for this bath. It’s a lovely store & I’m sure you will be very pleased with them.

That’s a great, timeless look, Rhoda. I keep struggling with getting a decent contractor that’s not a design-build company because I’m never too impressed with the design. Seems like they can only do a typical subdivision looking type design and that’s just not what I need for the age of my house. It wouldn’t fit in at all. It’s frustrating trying to get a good contractor these days and my bathroom is a mess–very, very bad 80’s reno. I have no idea what they were thinking!
Rhoda says
Hey, Kim, can’t you just do your own homework like I’m doing and choose all the components and then hire a good handy tile/bathroom guy to do it all? I agree, it’s hard to know who to call and trust.I asked some blog friends and found this guy, who had done 2 bathrooms for one girl I know. I’m hoping it all turns out like I am planning and if so, I’ll pass his name along.

You’ll have to come over and look at my MBath one of these days. You will not believe the mess they made of it in the 1980’s. The only thing that will help is a sledge hammer! It needs elements moved around and plumbing totally redone.

Hey, Kim, I would love to see your house! We love riding around old Marietta and looking at houses.

One of these days I’ll clean and you can swing by when you’re near the Square!

Rhoda, I love your inspiration pictures! Black and white will be wonderful and goes with everything.

I have a little 3/4 bath in the basement that I did in black and white. It’s like a little jewel box, if I do so say myself. It was fun working with a small space, about 5 x 8 feet. We have an open-concept home that brings its own decorating challenges, which I still have not wrestled to the ground.

I LOVE black and white so much!! I’d really like to use it in my master bath…however, the Jacuzzi tub is beige. There is not much I can do about it. I don’t know if these tubs can be refaced…not sure it would be worth it?….I do like how large our master bath is, and the tub is a plus for me. But a beige one? bleh
YEA! that you are using Magnolia paint. I have a dear friend who works for them in marketing and branding. My friend’s beautiful “modern calligraphy” is all over the place on the show and in the store.
Rhoda says
HI, Brandye, how fun for your friend! I’m sure she loves her job. I bet you could get that tub resurfaced if you called around.

Beautiful choices! Just a FYI, in my previous house I remodeled master bath and installed a totally frameless shower door and the door would swing both directions: towards to the room and into the shower. It was a large shower and plenty of room to step into it with the door opening into rather than away from the shower itself. And from experience with the cleaning the glass it is easy if you quickly squeegee it each time, takes all of 45 seconds and clean once a week with a good window cleaner and microcloth. I believe you posted on a glass cleaner and one I have also used. There are a couple of good cleaners out there….makes a world of difference and soooo easy. The glass looked as good when I moved 4 yrs later as it did the day it was installed and I was not a slave to cleaning.
Rhoda says
Hi, Dee, that is good to know. I already bought the glass slider, so I think I’ll be happy with it. The track might get dirty but hopefully not too hard to clean. And yes, I think I’ll be getting a squeegee and that Fish Foam glass cleaner works well.

Rhoda, that’s going to be pretty! I like the last photo a lot. Could I make a suggestion? Don’t use black or dark gray grout for your tile!

Anything black and white has my name all over it…. Your bathroom will be beautiful. Hope your contractor will come thru for you sooner than later.

Love the new plan, Rhoda! I feel your pain about waiting on contractors. We had a major leak in our master shower which has caused a renovation for us, and our house is only 10 yrs old. Fortunately my husband was able to save us a little money by tearing out the rotten wood and placing new backer-board. We hired a contactor also based on recommendation from a friend and he won’t be able to start until June 20th. I think our guy is in Powder Springs. We’re the couple that spoke to you and Mark that evening in Willy’s (Kennesaw). Looking forward to watching your progress!
Rhoda says
HI, Jill, thanks for saying hello again! I hope your renovation goes well too. These guys are so busy now it’s hard to get the going on a smallish project.
