More Thrifty Treasures

Just a reminder that next week will be our LAST Thrifty Treasures party of the year!  It’s been fun, but time to take a break.

It has been an exciting week, working on the HGTV pilot show behind the scenes with my friends, Layla and Keviin, with The Lettered Cottage.  Wow, is it a lot of hard work to get a room camera-ready in about 4 days.  There were plenty of volunteers who came out to sew, paint, strip wallpaper, and be handy women and men.  It was a fun collaborative project and I was happy to be there.  I’ll share more on that soon, although I will NOT be able to share the finished room with y’all!   I know, bummer!  But, that is TV for you.

Everyday Lovely found a pretty vintage green suitcase at the thriftstore.  Now, this made me chuckle, as the 60’s and 70’s are becoming more and more vintage.  I had an orange set of luggage from the 70’s that was very similar to this one, right down to the little mirror inside.  It’s probably floating around a thriftstore somewhere and had 3 pieces to it.

Collect Jadite?  Did you know there are fakes out there?  Willow & Paisley gives the low-down on how to spot a fake.

Janet from The Empty Nest, found a jackpot of a deal on blue vintage Ball jars.  These were $1 each, what a score that was!

Take a look at this $10 chair find from Rhonda.  I’m a sucker for a cute chair!

My 1929 Charmer scored a $100 buffet from the 30’s at Salvation Army and decided to paint her white.  I think that was a wise decision, don’t you?

Stacey from Embracing Change got the deal of a century with this probably1930’s set of dining room furniture off Freecyle for FREE!  Did you hear that?  A table and 4 chairs, buffet and china cabinet, all for free.  You can’t beat that!

Find out how Penny for Penny painted a $20 estate sale chair with fabric paint.  Instead of tackling reupholstery, she painted her chair!  Did you know there is fabric medium that can be mixed with paint and you can paint fabric?  Now you do!  I love how this turned out.

I just love original artwork scored on the cheap.  Houseography found a $2.95 beauty at Goodwill. Love it!

Project Queen found a beautiful table and 4 chairs for $150 thrifting and repainted in chalk paint in that beautiful turquoise shade.  Lovely!

So, what did YOU find this week?

There are a TON of parties out there to highlight all your projects, so please let’s keep this one about thrifty finds that were bought 2nd hand! Not a great sale from the store, or a recipe, or just a plain project, but 2nd Hand finds only!

And please DO NOT go back in your archives to OLD posts and link up. Let’s keep this party fresh and current! If you have already shared your find in a previous party, DON’T share it again! Please, girls, I don’t want to have to delete links.

  1. Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url. PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time! :)
  2. Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
  3. Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent! IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.

  1. I had to laugh when you mentioned your orange set of luggage. I received a 3-pc set of orange luggage for my high school graduation (early 70s) that came from JCP. There was a train case with a mirror inside and a large and medium sized regular case. Guess what? I still have (and use!) the large suitcase! 🙂

  2. Me too! Have my Mom’s train cases and a few older suitcases that she used whe she left the farm in PA during WWII to go to DC and work at the census bureau. I love how all the 1960-1970 stuff we still have is now “mid-century modern” – hahahaha! Gotta love it! 🙂

  3. How exciting that you were able to help out with Layla and Kevin’s pilot show for HGTV! I can’t wait to see it.

Great thrifty treasures from last week. I have a buffet just like the one that was painted white. It looks great painted!

    Thanks for hosting today.

  4. What great finds! My favorite is the buffet table from the 30’s that was painted white- what a gorgeous piece of furniture. I cannot wait to watch the Palmer’s show- that’s awesome that you got to help with the pilot!

  5. Thanks for the feature, Rhoda! I’m honored 🙂

  6. Thanks for hosting! Love your features!

  7. Have I told you that I love your link up parties and thanks a ton for the feature. I’ll be watching for the show with Layla and Kevin. Working behind the scenes is just as important as being in front. I know from experience, working with wardrobe for photo and commercial shoots. Without my steamer, sewing machine and pins the talent wouldn’t look so good… hahahaha! Good luck!

  8. Love all the features.
    Thanks for hosting.

  9. Hello Rhoda,
Sounds like you had loads of fun with Layla and Kevin…did you see Shaunna and her man also? Can’t wait to see the big reveal.

Thanks so much for featuring my thrifty find. I just adore all my blue Ball jars and really adored paying only $1 each for them.
The guy I bought them from chas collected old bottles and glass for years. He would search through local landfills as a teenager.
Want to hear something funny…the bottle guys name is Hottle!
    Isn’t that a hoot….Hottle the bottle man!

    I love it!

    Enjoy the day

  10. Rhoda – please kill my link on this page. I totally screwed up something and it is linking to my Blogger in Draft. Oh dear!!

  11. Rhoda
I had so much fun working on the HGTV pilot with you! I hated that I didn’t get to say goodbye! I hope I get to see you again! Thanks for the party!

  12. Rhoda,

Love the green suitcase. My mother used to have a set just like that!

  13. Thank you much for the feature, Rhoda! Glad I gave you a chuckle – I can only hope that stuff from the 80’s will never become “vintage”. 🙂

  14. Can’t wait to see the room you worked on. Thanks for hosting.

  15. I had a set of turquoise luggage just like that! I’m sure my set found a home at Goodwill too. I guess I’m vintage also!

  16. I have enjoyed the Thrifty Treasures and have gotten so much inspiration from them! Can’t wait for them to start again. 🙂

  17. Thank you for hosting Thrifty Treasures! I’ve had so much fun looking at everyone’s thrifty finds 🙂 Can’t wait until we start again!

  18. Awe I am so sad that next week will be the last thrifty treasures link up. I was finally gonna be able to link up regularly. I do however understand the need to take a break! Hope you enjoy it.

I just posted our first ever thrifty inspired link up, I’d love for you and your readers to stop by and link up. Think this will be a regular Friday post over at our blog. See it here

  19. Thanks so much Rhoda for featuring my vintage blue table. What a surprise!
