After seeing that cute corner cabinet at the other antique mall that Grandma and I visited, I was determined to see what else was out there before I made a decision. So, a quick jaunt through the Chelsea Antique mall uncovered this gem, all the way in the back of the store, hidden away in a corner. The perfect corner cabinet for my kitchen. It’s the right size and I love the simplicity of it, especially the glass-front doors which will be perfect to display more of my dish collection.
So, I’m painting it creamy white (working on it today). It’s not a fine piece of furniture, but very sturdy and it’s all wood (maybe some plywood in there, but still very solid). Not particularly pretty the color it is currently, I think it will be a standout when I paint it.
This little gem was $125, not a bad price for such a big piece and I measured the space to be sure it would fit. You should have seen me and my neighbor hauling it home in her little SUV, with 10” of it hanging out the back. I sat back there with it holding on for dear life in case it decided to slide on out. You do what you gotta do to get these things home!
So, now it’s home and waiting to be loved on with a fresh coat of paint. Another project to get my hands dirty with, there’s a big smile on my face with the anticipation of making this lovely into a pretty little treasure. Funny how the lighting changes the color so much from the store to home.
Here it is after a coat of primer.
One coat of creamy white latex paint in eggshell. I’m using the same color paint as my dining room walls. I love to reuse paint for something else. These tiny foam rollers are the best thing to use on furniture in my experience. I’m loving this piece and really happy with the deal I got on it.
After one coat of paint. One more coat of paint to go and then I think I need to paint the back walls a different color. Picture creamy white with….what color? You know my walls are olive green. I was thinking either a brighter lime green or even some scrapbook paper would do the trick too. I’ve got red and black accents in the kitchen, but I’m really not sure what color? Lime green? Red? Maybe a black and white paper? Here’s my kitchen fabric:
Got some ideas? Throw them at me! Let’s fix this little cutie up into something really special. I’ve got to figure out how to get some lights inside where the glass doors are. I think I can put some tiny holes in the backing and maybe add some of those halogen puck lights.
Anyone else using Blogger having problems with Scheduled Posts? I always schedule my posts in advance and that feature has not worked since Saturday. I checked Blogger Help and several others are having the same problem, just thought I’d ask ya’ll too.
Don’t forget the Spring Fluffing party coming up Wednesday (click on the button for more info). I’ve got to get busy and do something cute to my foyer table! Hope you’ll all join in the fun and show off your spring finery.

I just had to chuckle at your description of getting it home. Poor Chelsea has ended up riding in the most uncomfortable positions when Mom or I have found some treasure unexpectedly and then have to get it home…
It is very pretty. I am glad for that hint on the foam rollers. I have not used them in years.
I say paint the inside whatever color you love and then you’ll always have the option of putting scrapbook paper in to change the look later.

Haven’t we all suffered an uncomfortable ride home hanging on to a fantastic find for dear life?! How funny.
I think your cabinet would look great with a black and white pattern, maybe Harlequin? I guess it depends what dishes you plan to display. If they’re all white, then a solid green would be beautiful. If you plan to display your beautiful green dishes, then a complimentary color would be great. Maybe Harlequin would be too busy and compete with the detail on the dishes? Oh, good grief, why am I trying to advise YOU?? 🙂
Oh What a great cabinet. I can’t wait to see it all finished and dressed with all the gorgeous didshes. Hugs, Marty
Love the corner cabinet…it looks great painted. I have been having scheduling problems…I thought it was because I had started using Windows Live Writer to write/edit my posts.

Wonderful piece! Im thinking green??? As far as blogger,I did have a problem with it being posted the other day. My new post early this morning worked just fine. Good luck with everything~ Have a great day~
Hi Rhoda!
I have a corner hutch very similar. I painted the backsplash blue… Love it!

Good Morning Miz Rhoda,
I think black and white would be beautiful although I love Miz Susie’s idea of green too. I know whatever you decide it’s going to be lovely because you have such equisite taste *smiles*
Here’s an idea:
Instead of actually painting the back of the cabinet, cut rigid foamcore to fit. Then you can paint, paper or cover the foamcore. You can change it out easily depending on your whim or season.
As soon as I saw it I thought, “I hope she paints it white!” : )
I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the back!
Rhoda, your cabinet will be perfect I’m sure. I can’t wait to see what you do put in the back. Go to Hobby Lobby and get some of those cute knobs …or maybe some of the Sknobs that Studio M has!!
I always swoon over your fabric. It’s adorable.
I love the cabinet, it’s very pretty. I agree with Karen, using foamcore would be a great way to change the look when the mood strikes. I’ve done the same thing using sturdy cardboard. I also use that technique to line drawers.
I would probably paint it green or blue, but I am on a green and blue kick right now. Probably not what you want.
The weekend we were supposed to go to B’ham flea market, I went to the Bama Antique Mall and Flea Market to get my ‘fix’. Did not find the ‘deal’ I have found in the past. Did pick up some linens though. All the pretty chandi’s I posted on my blog last Oct and nov are gone except for the one that is displayed underneath the taxidermy and the new ‘looking’ one that you can get cheaper new online.
It’s beautiful! I have a piece just like this in my dining room that I bought at an antiques auction. I paid a little more, but it was in pristine condition (so I was able to justify it a little better!!)
I am cracking up at imagining you in the back of the SUV holding on to the piece of furniture!! Now what would you have done had it started sliding out!!?!?
Can’t wait to see the finished product!
I love the cabinet! It’s exactly what I need for my dining room. I love the foam rollers too and the brushes. They work so well.
I love this!! Where did you get that fabric with the bunnies I love that!
Love the cabinet! Glad that you gave it a home. Can’t wait to see the finished product!
I have had a problem with Blogger deleting my followers and deleting me from following others! (horrified look here). I talked to one gal and she said that Blogger dropped 10 of her followers!
The cabinet looks great! Love that you reused paint…I did the same with a bathroom makeover I just finished up. Foam rollers are the best! Especially on cabinets.
I would go with scrapbook paper, something black and white, but that is me…
Blogger, I had problems with my scheduled post this morning. It was scheduled for 7, it’s after 8 and it never posted, I had to go in and change the date to early this morning to get it to work. I hope it gets fixed soon, I have tomorrow’s post set as well.
I love the cabinet I have two of them. I think I paid $80 for one and $100 for the other. But I never thought of putting a different color inside. Will check yours out and decide about mine.
Great shopping…. you have the eye for beauties… btw..is the napoli granite actually called giallo napoleone granite (what I am considering)?
I just painted my china cabinet a great spring green. I bet that would look wonderful with that fabric. Not too sure about the olive, though.
I finally finished my chairs, stop by and see them!
