Porch Party with the Girls!

Friends are wonderful, aren’t they?

There’s nothing better than a bunch of girlfriends getting together to gab and catch up on everything going on. Since I’m now single again, it’s been really fun to get connected with other women my age who are also single. I’ve enjoyed making some new friends and it’s been great to have them to do things with. I’ve made some great single friends just in the last 6 months. A couple of them are widows and most of us are divorced, but we all face the same things at this stage of our lives. So, we share our time together and we date and we get out and socialize. It’s made a huge difference to me to have these girls around and I enjoy them so much. I couldn’t manage life without some single girlfriends around and I’m blessed to have many of them. I also have longtime married girlfriends who mean the world to me too. It’s just that we are in different seasons of life and at this time, my single girlfriends are who I spend the most time with. spring party Spring seemed a perfect time to have a girl’s porch party and invite my girlfriends over to hang out on the porch. We have so much fun laughing, talking about men, and just the usual conversations that go with being single. As you can imagine, men are a big topic of conversation. Most of us are dating, although a couple of my friends don’t care about it at this point.

Me, I’m enjoying dating right now and just might be dating one particular special man at the moment. Not going to share any details yet, but if and when the time comes and I find someone worth keeping, you will all find out. Smile I haven’t given up on that idea yet. I had fun shopping for some ultra special food for this girl’s night in. It was a beautiful spring evening on the porch and my first porch party of the year. With Dixie Ultra Moments® products on hand, I was ready to host my girlfriend party.  Dixie Ultra Moments® Tableware helps you take care of the details so you can enjoy your moment now.  And we certainly enjoyed our moments on the porch! pink tulips

Pink tulips seemed appropriate for the party too. screened porch

I had just cleaned up the porch for spring, getting it ready for summer entertaining after cleaning off the pollen and grime that accumulates over the winter. It feels so good to be out here again! porch   If there is one space in this house that I’ve SO enjoyed, it has to be this porch. This porch makes me so happy. screen porch 2   I spend time out here in the daytime with my computer and it’s a great spot early mornings before it gets hot. And it is already starting to heat up in Georgia. curtains blowing   I love it when the curtains blow in the breeze. That white blur coming out the door is Cody running outside. porch settee   This porch is a tranquil and serene spot and I will never get tired of it. porch corner   And I’m still so, so grateful to have it. porch wicker   My sweet spot, this porch. console 2 food   So, I invited about 8 of my single girlfriends over for a girls’ night in on the porch. I shopped for some yummy food and served it buffet style in the kitchen and we all gathered on the porch for chatting and girl time. olives   Kale salad, olives and olive tapenade – it was yummy food. hummus   Four varieties of hummus. cheese crackers   Cheese and crackers. food spread   Delicious food that girls like to eat. dixie plate of food   We had a great time catching up and talking, as you can imagine.  Dixie Ultra Moments® Tableware provided me with plates, cups and napkins for the occasion and they were colorful and fun on the porch.

Dixie Ultra Moments® premium coordinating designs bring style to any occasion and their 8 sided plates are built with a deep rim and durable construction, so your food stays on the plate where it belongs.  With Dixie Ultra Moments® Tableware, you can “Celebrate with Style and Strength™.”

And that’s just what we did on the porch that night.  girlfriends

I tried getting a pic with the camera timer, but it still blurred a little. I was telling them to all be still while the timer when off, but low light makes even the slightest movement blur. But, these are my friends, they are all special women and I’m so grateful to have them in my life. Having girlfriends to share life with is just the best. We support each other, listen to problems, give advice when needed, and most of all just be there for each other. That makes life all the sweeter. Most of us are dating and interested in finding a long term relationship again and I have no doubt we will all be there for each other on this life journey we are on.

I’ve been reading your blog for years now (you were married at the time). It’s so good to see how you’ve restored your home and your life. I’m very happy for you.

Also, I love your porch because it reminds me of my first home and the screened room my husband had built. I have a deck now in our condo but I much prefer a screened room because of all those pesky bugs and it was where I’d have my morning coffee.

I love your porch, too! The colors and accessories you’ve chosen for out there are so inviting!

I’ve been a follower for at least 5 years, and you have been such an incredible inspiration to me throughout the years! Not only with your decorating ideas, but with the way you’ve embraced whatever the Lord brings into your life. I am in awe of how you choose to make the best and have fun with life no matter what! You go, girl! 🙂

I LOVE your porch. It is beautiful. Especially the stained glass pieces and how you use them.
    All the best to you.

Your porch looks amazing! So happy you’ve created this little oasis for yourself. I’m also happy that you’ve found a group of woman to connect with and that support each other. I’m most excited about the new mystery man. I’ll be following this one closely. xoxox

Rhoda, thanks for sharing your life with us. It’s so much fun and I know inspiring for many single women that have started all over again. I have been there and done that! Your porch is very inviting! I’m excited to hear about this man that may or may not be in your life. I remember you saying a little bit (not much at all) about a date, a few months ago???? Keep up the good work 😉

BTW, your new profile picture is beautiful (but then again, so was the other one). 🙂

I, too, am amazed at your boundless energy and head full of ideas. By the time I work 9-10 hours a day – my brain is fried. I struggle to cook a meal every evening. Whew. I agree with other comments – your blog is a hi-light in my blogosphere. Such good pics, realistic projects and encouraging words. Bless you Rhoda. (p.s. I have porch envy! 🙂 )

I simply love your blog and look forward to each post, but I’m so bummed when the post has a black background with dark gray type. I can’t read it at all. 🙁 Has anyone else reported the same problem?

Hi, Sondra, that is strange, because my background is always white with black letters. I’m not sure why you are having this problem, but it’s not my blog post doing that. So sorry!

It must be really lovely to have a covered porch, we don’t see much of that in NZ houses. Your porch is so inviting and I imagine a really lovely day had by all. The food looks delicious, you should blog some of those hummus recipes :). I am gluten intolerant and always looking for recipes that I can have and hummus is one that is ok. Store bought they seem to have so many additives in.

Love the photos, I have had orange and white tulips in my house this week. Oh……and I have some possible exciting news, finally blogging is paying off but will talk about that if it happens. And…..I met Annie Sloan yesterday she was in Auckland for a book signing and I got a media invite 🙂 I managed to get a shot of us together which I will share in a blog post next week.

Oh, thanks for sharing that, Lee. I got to meet Annie Sloan once too. I bought all the food at Whole Foods, so the hummus came from there too. They make it easy to throw a party!

Looks like a fun evening! I love it when our group has a “girls’ night out.” You mentioned twice that “most of us are dating” which surprised me as many of my 50+ year old friends have trouble meeting men. There’s nothing wrong with being single, so enjoy this stage of your life.
