Recently, I received an email from a reader, Christy, who told me this:
Just a quick note from a 50+ Texas gal who L-O-V-E-S your website. You have inspired me in so many ways I cannot express them all in an email.
Anytime I run out of ideas on how to solve a design problem, I think, “wonder what Rhoda is doing?” and check out your website – and I just had to tell you. You make me feel like I can figure out how to do anything! I don’t seem to have too much luck at yard sales, but I’ll keep trying.
Attached is a quick candlestick project that turned me onto your Ralph Lauren Turret Stair color. Two large candlesticks found on the 80% off aisle at Hobby Lobby – one was $1.50, the other $2.00. After painting, I attached two leftover light bulb covers from a standard bathroom bar light we replaced in our guest bathroom (with a small but elegant chandelier). Turned up with votive candles, they glow beautifully. And to think I nearly threw them away. They are now on my fireplace mantle, but here is a pic of them on a little glass table.
Thanks so much for your inspiring site, Rhoda! I’ll keep checking in.
How’s that for a fun and inspiring candlestick project? I love, love Christy’s idea of using those old light globes in a whole new way! I can see those with tealights inside. Thanks for sharing.
Christy also made the light fixture above her table using pieces from an antique store. Brilliant and gorgeous!
Great redo! I’m thinking that Christy needs to tell us about her antique-pieces-parts-lantern! That’s quite a beauty!
What a great idea with the candlesticks! I love her decorating style…wish she’d have sent more photos of her home…hint hint…maybe our friend Rhoda could talk her into it…haha…have a blessed day…Robyn
Both the candlesticks and the lantern. I would love to hear how she made that too.Beautiful home!

Christy is a clever girl! I would have never thought to use the globes like that and it reminds me of a product we used to sell! That lantern is gorgeous! And Rhoda so neat of you to share from your readers! Thanks!
Her home is gorgeous! What great ideas!
What a great idea to add the light fixture globes! Some would just stop at painting the candlesticks, but these are really one of a kind now. Great job!
Hi Rhoda
I had a minute, this morning, to sit down and watch Grandma Eleanor sew. Absolutely delightful! I enjoyed so very much!
I love the candlestick makeover in this post and what a great fixture over the dining room table.
I know you are enjoying your visit in NC. We’re headed back to the Ozarks, Monday morning. I can’t wait till we get here!
I love that idea! Wow, she’s quite the clever lady. I think a lot of us are becoming more creative thanks to ladies like you, Rhoda!

What a great idea. It seems there are a lot of us bloggers out there that got some wonderful deals at HL for redo projects. I would like to hear about the light project also. Does Christy has a blog?
Love Christy’s creativity and confidence.
So glad that you shared with us.
Sweet dreams.

Great idea!!! You can find these at the thrift stores all day long so great idea! Especially if you had them to begin with!
Christy has a wonderful eye. I see those globes by the dozens at yard sales and thrift stores. I will be on the look out for a few to bring home. Cleaver Christy! Thanks Rhoda!
Isn’t it just THE BEST sharing ideas with one another. There is not much better than this wonderful blogging community.
Oh and Rhoda ~~ I’ll have to agree with Christy! You have taught us so much! Thanks! 🙂

Christy had a great idea! I need to check out my Hobby Lobby. Haven’t been there for awhile.
Very neat idea! Thanks for sharing Christy’s pics with us. 🙂
Love the idea of using the light globes as candle holders. Great transformation!
Now that is such a clever idea. I love it. The finish she did on the candlesticks is just beautiful too. Some people are just so creative. Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Marty
