There’s something extremely satisfying about having something live blooming in the house this time of year. One of my neighbors shared a baby amaryllis plant with me over a year ago and this is the second blooming season for my plant. I love how it blooms right around Valentines Day, those vivid red flowers just bring life to the corner of the living room, as it reaches up to the window searching for some sunshine rays.
This one is a vivid red-orange shade and is such a pretty plant. I think I’d like to try more of these, since this one has been fool proof. I sit it outside under my deck on the little patio area during the summer and just keep it watered. Those green stalks soak up the sun and store energy for that burst of flower power this time of year.
And at this time of year when I need a little sunshine indoors the most, this little amaryllis does the trick!
I’ve always loved having live plants around the house and enjoy the greenery and the fact that they are living and breathing.
Do you grow any plants indoors?
Where did your post about the knobs go???? I love them BTW, they look GREAT with the rug! XO, Pinky
I agree! I bought a great hydrangea plant from Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago, and a few new plants from a nursery. I need to see green, especially after record-breaking snows. I have a plant from my mom that blooms each year around my son’s birthday – it was a gift from when he was born. What a gift!

It’s gorgeous and sadly, no, I don’t even have one alive plant in my home at the moment. I know. It’s sad. I need to remedy that, but I’m a bit of a plant killer and I feel a tad sorry for each beauty that I buy. They just don’t last long when you forget to give them a drink every now and then :).
Oh, lovely! What a cheerful burst of color on this gray wintery Valentine’s weekend. Thanks so much for sharing.
Shannon, I got those 2 leafy plants at a yardsale last year & I have no idea what they are. So far they are doing well.
Sonal, I do have small rocks in the bottom of those pots to help with drainage. They are all staying alive so far with this method.
I’m glad ya’ll enjoy living plants inside too. I have always enjoyed having them around.
I think those of us that live where winter is cold and snowy have had enough. Black and white has become boring, we are ready for color.
My Amaryllis is also blooming right now. I think this is the best time of year for indoor bulbs, they bring so much color, light, and a bit of hope for Spring. They make me happy. You should see how happy I get when the crocus start blooming! Dance-happy.
