Do you find yourself saying any of these things?
- I don’t know how to cook.
- My food never turns out.
- My house isn’t up to par.
- I’m just too busy.
- We can’t afford it.
Sound familiar? If you’ve had these thoughts, then this book is for you.
When I first started blogging, there was a sweet friend named Sandy who I connected with early on in the blogosphere. She is beautiful inside and out and she writes a beautiful blog as well. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the last 2 Blissdom conferences and she is just as genuine in real life as she is on her blog. Truly the best thing about blogging for me has been the friendships forged with women across the country who I would never have the chance to meet in person. But, blogging brings us all together.
(me and Sandy at Blissdom)
One of the things that I noticed right away from Sandy’s blog is that she encourages her readers to open up their homes and entertain. Have people over. Share meals and share stories. Get to know others on a deeper level by sharing a meal. I love that and really would like to get better at it. Sandy really encourages that on her blog and now, in her new book, The Reluctant Entertainer.
Sandy was nice enough to send me a copy of her book and it is just beautiful. Every woman’s guide to simple and gracious hospitality is the tag line and it certainly delivers.
Chock full of Sandy’s own recipes, as well as real-life entertaining stories from Sandy’s family and home, this book is such a useful tool for opening up our doors to others. It’s filled with her own beautiful photos too that you will love.
I grew up in a Pastor’s home and we were always having people over to our house. My mom thought nothing of inviting a couple of families over after church on Sunday night for a meal. It might be nothing more than warming up left-over ham for ham sandwiches, chips and fruit, but it was a very memorable time for me, savoring friendships with those families and sharing a meal together. Food just makes everything better!
Sandy’s book is so useful as she goes through all the reasons why women do not want to take the time to have folks over these days. It does seem like the world has gotten busier and busier, with not enough time taken to slow down and savor friendships. Sandy’s book will definitely help you see the benefit of entertaining and getting out of your comfort zone.
If you’d like to win a copy of Sandy’s book, just leave a comment here and tell me if you are a frequent entertainer or are you like so many and reluctantly open up your home to others. We all probably have some improvement to do in this area, I know I do.
I will have ONE copy to giveaway, so just leave a comment! I’ll draw a winner in a few days! Just in time for Mother’s Day, you can always give it a little late!

I love to entertain and did so pretty much every weekend! Then I married Mr. Crabbypants and he is too attached to his dollar. 🙂 This book sounds like the perfect match for me. I could find helpful ways to entertain on a budget and the hubs could relax a little, even if cocktail induced! haha….
I love having people over to bless them but right now we are living in daughter’s basement which is not finished yet but I still am so wanting to entertain once again. Any ideas? I would love your book for when the Lord provides the funds to finish basement and we can entertain again.
I’m a reluctant.. I am too hung up on what the entire house looks like instead of focusing on my company. I heard her segment on family life today.. and she makes it sound easy! I would love, love, love this book..
I love Sandy’s blog…and I would love to have a copy of her book. Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
Sadly, I do not entertain that much. Mostly it is around Christmas. I would love to have a book to give me ideas!
I love to have family and friends over! Thanks for sharing…
I’m a more than reluctant entertainer – too tired to clean, cook und decorate. But I’d love to take at least some little steps into being more inviting and a better host overall. So, Sandy’s book could be really helpful and of course I’m going to hop over to her blog …
I am slowly overcoming being a reluctant entertainer. I’ve heard so many good things about Sandy’s book!!
I would love this book as my family has recently moved to the south and I am hoping to make many new neighborhood friends. I DEFINITELY fall into the “my house is never up to par” category and use that as my excuse to not entertain (shame on me)!
I would love to entertain more! Thank you for introducing me to Sandy and her blog! (and the chance to win her book!)
I have this book and love it! Love the whole concept of hospitality as a means to deeper, more meaningful relationships. I’ll be sharing some of the book this Sunday in my class where we’ll be talking about Mary and Martha.
Beautiful Cover Photo. Love to receive this book!!
How funny! Our new years resolution is to invite a family over once a month for dinner/drinks. We are doing great with our plan, but we could always use some hosting tips! Thanks for the chance!
I love to entertain! I’m on a mission now to find new china for Thanksgiving and thrifting/garage/estate sales are my target. Thanks for the chance to win this book.
I probably fall in the category of someone who doesn’t entertain too much but would love to do it more often.
Hey! Love ,Love, Love your blog! Please enter me in your drawing for the book on entertaining! I love to entertain and I use absolutely any excuse to have a get-together! Last year we had a “first fire of the season” party! I made homemade chili and cornbread, and for desert we toasted marshmallows and made s’mores and drank my homemade version of a hot french vanilla Starbucks drink (the kind they sale in the glass bottles in the store)! I still love having tea parties with my girlfriends and my daughter, who is 22 years old,and also loves any reason to have a few people over! Keep up the good writing!
Pam
Hope your new business does well!
I would love to entertain more but I see it as such a chore to get everything ready. I need help!
I am a reluctant entertainer. I am not the greatest cook, I always feel the house needs more done with it, I worry no one will have a good time, and so on. Boy do I need this book!!!!
We try to entertain as often as we are able. With 4 small kids, it doesn’t happen as often as I would like. But, we try to have another family over once a month.
I want to entertain more, but it’s always after the next project is finished. Problem is, I always have a project going.
