While we were in New Orleans last week, my sister, niece and I did more going and doing than anytime before and it was so much fun. The 3 of us do like to shop, we all like clothes and home stuff too, so a couple of shopping outings were in order. One of our first trips of the week was driving about an hour to the North of New Orleans, to the North Shore and a cute little town called Covington. It is a sweet town with shops and restaurants and it has such a nice small town feel. It was a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed our day there.
Cutie pie, Parker, is almost 1 year old now and so we take her with us and she loves to go too. As long as we are strolling her, she’s happy.
Covington has a very small town feel with cute shops and lots of walking opportunities. We stayed a couple of hours and had lunch and also tea at a tea house.
We walked through Smith’s Sons hardware store and it was a throw back to the old days. Loved it!
This vintage style stove caught my eye on the way through.
Cute place to visit.
Here’s one of the main streets in Covington. We ended up at Mattina Bella for lunch and it was very good.
Brick front shop on one of the streets.
We strolled down Lee Lane and found some cute home decor and antique shops. The French Mix is a beautiful store, you would all love it. I didn’t take pics inside, but it was full of beautiful furniture and home decor.
It also has baby things too. It’s not a bargain place, but well worth browsing.
The Copper Rooster was also fun to browse, an antiques shop with lots of vintage collectibles.
I just loved the front of this place, but we didn’t go inside.
Once we spotted the English Tea room, that was it. Lauren is smitten with tea rooms and so we stopped for a spot ‘o tea. Lauren and Renee have just started at the beginning of Downton Abbey and now they love it too. We had fun watching the old seasons every night while we were there. I’m already caught up to the current season, but it was fun watching with them. I didn’t give away any of the tragic things that they haven’t seen yet.
So, to get to have tea at an English tea room, yes please. Perfect spot for a break.
Lauren found out they are doing a Downtown Abbey dress up tea dinner at the tea room later in February, so she is bringing her hubby back for a date night. That sounds like so much fun!
I enjoyed a strawberry shortcake scone with my Nutcracker tea and it was all so delicious.
Downtown Covington, LA is a cute place to visit, so quaint and small town home feeling.
Have you been?
I have lots more to share from our Louisiana visit. We had such a great time and spent over a week with Lauren and her family. The weather was beautiful most every day with a spring feeling in the air and we got out and about most every day. That was so nice!
Looks like a fun day out! And those metal roosters seem to be popping up everywhere. Another blogger shared a post that featured a rooster that looked a lot like that one. And the BBQ place down the road from me has that rooster as well. Parker is just precious…I know you all hated to leave her. As for Downton Abbey, my husband and I are total addicts!! I am glad you were able to keep quiet about the spoilers….
My Dad lives in nearby Mandeville, so we go shop around Covington when we go visit. It’s such a cute place! It sounds morbid, but one of my favorite things to do when we go is to walk around the cemetery there. Such history.
Could you please show how Lauren tied the green scarf she was wearing? It looks like a double loop of some sort, and since I’m scarf-challenged, I can’t figure out how she did it like that.
Thanks for taking us along on the trip.
Marie Claire
HI, Marie, I will have to do a video and show that one. I learned how to do it too and will be tying my scarves like that as well.
YAY – thanks! I, too, am scarf-challenged (and left handed, so no one can teach me a thing)…
How cool to see my local town on your blog! I live just north of Covington but we go there to do the bulk of our shopping, out to eat, church, etc. Glad you all had a nice time. It is a great place to visit.
Followed along on your trip on Instagram and can’t wait to read your other posts as I will be in New Orleans for a week in February. I’ve been several times before but it has been years since then. I know that you had a wonderful time!
Hey Rhoda, I grew up in a small town just north of Covington so I am familiar with Lee Lane. I enjoyed the City Park post too. It is so fun to read about your Louisiana trip….it brings back memories of my home state for me!! I now live in Birmingham, started reading your blog when you lived here. Alabama is fine, but there’s no place like Louisiana….I do miss it… Especially the people and the food. Thanks for these posts!
I need a tutorial on how Lauren tied her scarf!
Enjoy your adventures with sweet Parker!! Looks like so much fun!

Have any of you girls seen “Mr Selfridge” – a BBC period television drama series based on Harry Gordon Selfridge and his London department store, Selfridge & Co in the 1910s. It’s a must-see for all lovers of English period dramas! Thought I’d give it a nudge in your direction! 😉 – heather, AU x
HI, Heather, I haven’t heard of that one. Thanks!
You must come back! As I’m sure you saw, there area quite a lot of wonderful shops, galleries and restaurants. And Saturday morning’s farmer’s market is quite the social scene. You’ll even see local chefs shopping for the upcoming week’s menus. November brings the Three Rivers Art Festival when Columbia St. is full of fabulous art. It’s quite easy to “shop local” in Covington!
Yes…I have been to Covington, but it’s been a very long time ago…think I need to take another road trip over there.
Blessings,
Linda
Oh yes LOVE the English Tea Room! We’ve been there many times. Best one I have found yet. I’ve bought lots of their English teas in the tins. When I saw you did a Covington,La. post I just wondering IF you found the tearoom! lol Love the little town as well.
When I saw Covington I thought OH I HOPE she went to the English Tearoom! LOVE that place! We have been many times and I always have to bring home some of that English tea. So glad you got to go. FOr several years there I asked to go there for my birthday dinner or lunch.
I visited Covington, La with my daughter. I fell in love with the area. I am from Tampa, Florida and plan on moving to the area in September. I am excited and looking forward to the move, and the chance to embrace Covington as my new home! Brea
Hi, Brea, that’s great, I hope you love it too. I can’t wait to visit my sister after they get settled. They just moved this week to build their home on the lake there.
I will be in Covington next week visiting family. My sister told me you spoke of a resale shop….maybe on Lee Lane….love the shops on this street. Do you recall the name of it? I didn’t see it above but Kay have missed it. Thanks so much!
Hi, I’ve mentioned a few resale shops in Covington, but now I’m trying to recall them. there’s one called Patina and there’s one on the main drag going into Covington and I can’t remember the name, but maybe do a search for vintage consignment shops.
