My Sister’s Guestroom/Nursery

My sister and I worked on painting several pieces of furniture for her guestrooms/nursery awhile back and I’ll show you what all we did tomorrow.

But, now I want to share the finished Guestroom #2/Nursery at my sister’s house.  She hasn’t updated these rooms for about 8 years and the decor was definitely showing that.  It was time for a freshening up with paint and bedding.  All of that makes a huge difference in a room and she also decluttered too.  The new space feels so much calmer now and a place that guests will enjoy.  Not to mention the new baby girl that will be staying in this room soon!  We can’t wait for that bundle of joy.

guest room before

These are terrible pics again, my sis took them with her iphone, but you get the idea. Time for an update, huh?!

guest room 2 before

Everything in here was just hand me down stuff and she was ready for a change.

guest bath before

The guest bath also got an update and she painted the vanity with Annie Sloan black paint and added new silver knobs and it turned out really pretty too.

guest bath tub before

The old shower curtain in reds and golds.  Yes, definitely time for an update!

baby bib

And here’s how it started.  Lauren sent my sister and Bruce this cute bib in the mail, then followed up on the phone with the news of their pregnancy.  That’s how they found out!

Giving the guestrooms an update had been on my sister’s mind for awhile, but finding out THIS news really pushed her over the edge.  Cause yes, she would need one of those guestrooms to soon function as a nursery too.  Let’s get the ball rolling!

So, after painting furniture, shopping with her and finding drapes and accessories and other furniture pieces to go with the bedding she had found, we had the makings for 2 new guestrooms and one would be the nursery too.

guestroom nursery after

And here’s the new guestroom/nursery combo.  This has a queen bed with the new headboard I’ll show you tomorrow that we painted.  Wall color in here is Sherwin Williams Windsor Greige. We’ve both used it at our houses and it’s the same color as her master bedroom too.

bed and linens

All this bedding came from Ballard Designs.  We found the nightstand at Homegoods, as well as the lamp and artwork over the bed.  That little rocking chair and doll to the right was Lauren’s as a child.

pillows

Loved this pretty bedding with gray, white and mustard tones.

chair

The glider came from Homegoods too and when I spotted this baby, I knew it had to come home with her. It’s a glider/rocker and so comfy.  Perfect for rocking that new baby!  It was $400, not cheap, but not too bad for a chair like this.  The black chest she already had and it will become the changing table.

glider rocker

This chair is so comfortable and will really come in handy in this room. When the baby arrives, she’s going to add some baby pics to that frame above the chair.

nursery pic

This print was from Lauren’s room when she was a baby, so Renee is reusing it in here too.

wall shelf and words

The wall words came from Hobby Lobby, such a cute sentiment for a baby’s room.  She added the wall shelf above to hold books and stuffed animals.

baby bed

The newly painted white Jenny Lind crib is tucked on this side of the room by the window.  It’s hard to get good pics in this room with only one window letting light in, but I did the best I could with it.  Those drapes are also from Homegoods. If you haven’t looked there lately for drapes, our Homegoods have a lot more of those now at really good prices, like $29 and $39 for the pair.

baby bedding

Renee found this bedding at Target and it’s the perfect colors for her new room, yellows, grays and whites. It’s hard to see the striped drapes, but they are a pretty taupe/white stripe in a linen-like fabric.

baby bedding 2

Isn’t this bedding perfect?

Parker sign

She ordered Parker’s name from my sponsor, Spunky Fluff and it turned out really cute.

lamp side table

A shot of the yellow nightstand and new lamp, both from Homegoods.

guestbath after

Now on to the guestbath, which got a major overhaul too. Again, she painted the vanity with Annie Sloan chalk paint in black and it turned out really pretty.  Instead of framing out the mirror like we’ve done in the past, she found 2 oval mirrors and glued them on top of the existing mirror.  Her hubby did it and  he used Liquid Nails for mirrors to glue them up.  I loved this idea!

Note: Here’s how they installed the mirrors.  Use Liquid Nails (there is one specifically for mirrors).  Put a generous amount on the back of the mirrors and put in place.  They taped the mirrors and also propped up pieces of wood underneath to hold them in place while they dried.  That’s it!  Sounds like an easy project to me!

Wall color in here is Windsor Greige too.

framed mirrors

Some new artwork was added too bringing in more blues.

black vanity

Those double oval mirrors really add a nice look to this guestbath.

shower curtain

A trellis aqua and white shower curtain from Homegoods lightens up that area too.

wall shelf

A vintage wall shelf holds a few pretty accessories and towel.

wall shelf 2

Pretty things with a coastal feel.

soap tray

A mirrored silver tray holds soap and essentials for guests.

This was a fun guestroom/nursery update and I hope you enjoyed it too. It was fun helping her with these rooms and I know she is glad they are done.  It’s so fun to update and make spaces prettier than they were before and these spaces really shine now.

It looks fantastic. What a well set up room! The colors are especially great and I adore the crib bedding. I really love the idea of the mirrors over the large mirror in the bathroom.

I have that same Ballard’s bedding and love it. I enjoy seeing the items that she has added to it. I may have to drop by Homegood’s to see if I can find a yellow table like that for my room. Great job!

Oh, Rhoda, I especially love the glider! I’m going to see if one can order online, or if we just have to stumble across it in the store? Your wall colors are just right, too. Warm without being dark. You and your sister and your niece have to be so excited! Congrats to all! Wonderful job on the rooms.

I love this post! I’m preparing a guest room/grandbaby nursery right now too, and you show beautiful ideas. Are the chevron quilt and bed skirt on the crib also from Target?

Hey, Kim, I’m pretty sure all of that is from Target. I’ll doublecheck though.

Beautiful! One word of caution though – we became grandparents this past summer and learned that bumper pads are NOT recommended unless they are mesh. One of the many changes since we became parents! Another one is the “back to sleep” rather than putting babies on their tummies.

It is a mesh liner, not the full bumper pad. And the bedding came as a set from Target and I added the mesh liner, also from Target.
