{Giveaway is Closed}
I took 98 pics at Southern Accents! Don’t worry, I am not posting all of them, but I just couldn’t get enough of all the fun treasures that are packed into this place.
Oh, yes it was a fun adventure at Southern Accents with my friend, Myra at My Blessed Life, who is also hosting a Southern Accents giveaway too. We could have spent hours going through each room and warehouse that housed all those rusty, crusty, and old architectural treasures. You know? Just the ones we like!
Housed in a storefront in downtown Cullman, AL, Southern Accents is a virtual treasure hunter’s paradise. They have been in business since 1969 and now that architectural salvage is SO hot at the moment and has been for years, it’s a fun stop for anyone wishing to add some architectural interest to their home.Â
Myra and I sure had a ball weaving our way through all the rooms. There is stuff inside, outside, and in several other buildings. and I’d venture to guess that just about anything you’d be looking for like this, Southern Accents will have it. No kidding!
Garlan is one of the owners. His dad started the business back in 1969, so I’m sure he has learned the ropes growing up in a business like this. Garlan was so nice and fun to talk to. Gave me so many great ideas when I told him what I was looking for.
And OK, so he’s really purdy to look at too. 🙂 Cause I knew that would NOT go unnoticed by ya’ll either.
This is the resident shop dog in the window. Cute little guy!
OK, are you ready to see more?? I know you are. It’s amazing all the stuff in here, so come along with me. I tried to take a variety of pics of all sorts of things that we saw.   Garlan has a staff of guys working in a back warehouse and they take this old stuff and make beautiful things out of it, like these framed mirrors. Cool, huh?  I found out they can make just about anything you’d want, so that is a big plus if you don’t want to do the work yourself.Â
Doors galore.
Wood ardchitectural accents and all sorts of things.Â
Light fixtures and chandeliers rewired and ready to hang. They go all over the country salvaging wood and vintage pieces from buildings that are being torn down, so you can imagine what all is brought in here.
Iron brackets. I’ll tell you more about these in a minute, since they figure into my scheme of the day.
Oh yeah! Don’t you wish this one was true?Â
Old vintage hardware with that perfect patina.
Sconces
This huge piece was amazing. And check out those brick walls.  Love them!
Right out the backdoor is another huge warehouse, crammed with interesting things.
Corbels galore!
Lots and lots of corbels.
Shutters too, lots and lots of shutters.
Bullseye corner pieces too.Â
If you’re doing any restoring, this is the place to visit.
Tons of mantels and I saw some good prices on these.
Huge white one.
Letters anyone?
More outside, clawfoot bathtubs and
Sinks
More shutters and ironwork. Lots of iron outside.
What would you do with these?
Huge gates.
Back inside, we went upstairs and saw lots of doors and windows.
More hardware.
Pretty decorative knobs.
Even this old rack was pretty, holding more hardware.
Oh, these glass knobs are stunning.
Front door hardware.  See, are you amazed yet?
More, more and more!  Your eyes can’t even take it all in.
One room with nothing but legs and spindles.
Beadboard stars.
Unique treasures.
And if we didn’t see enough, Garlan sent us over to yet another building a couple of blocks away. An old gym that housed stacks and stacks of old wood. These carts above were there too, several of them. Coffee tables like this are so hot right now?
So, Myra decided on this pretty piece. This is one of the things built in the shop. Love it, Myra!Â
I picked up a piece of old wood and brought it back to show Garlan what I had in mind. Then he told me they can make some rustic shelves for my project. Perfect!
His shop can take that old wood above and turn it into a top like this, so all I had to do was give him my dimensions and he is making my own set of 2 shelves for my dining room. I’ll probably stain them dark and wax them and that will sit on top of this:
These beautiful iron bird sconces! Aren’t they gorgeous?! I was so excited that my plan came to fruition and with Garlan’s help, I knew just what I wanted. I can hardly wait to get them installed now. These will be the new home for my white dish collection.
We were treated to lunch at a restaurant just around the corner, Carlton’s, and it was so good!
So, what a cool place, don’t you think?
Here’s the deal: I happened to meet Garlan’s new PR girl, Lucy, at the Lisa Leonard event last month. We started talking about Southern Accents and I told her that I was planning a trip there really soon. So, since I was dying to visit the store and blog about it too, Garlan gave me a $50 discount on my purchases and I’m sharing the fun with all of you too.
Southern Accents will give ONE of my readers a $50 gift certificate to use in the shop too!!
How fun is that??
Garlan ships things all over the country, so as long as you find something online that is reasonable to ship, he can send you something. So, we are opening up the giveaway for all of you. You can visit their website for more details on what is for sale, or if you spot something in my pics that you’d love to have, you can ask about that too. I’ll put the winner in touch with Garlan to claim your prize once the giveaway is over. Of course, a local winner would have a lot of fun checking out the store for yourself.
Check out their blog too, as well as Twitter and Facebook! Go over and Friend them, they would love that.
Have fun! Would you enjoy shopping at Southern Accents too? I know you would. It was so much fun, I can hardly wait to go back. Visit their website too for more info.
So which item in these pics really rings your bell?
{Disclosure: I received a $50 discount from my purchase, which is greatly appreciated. My opinions, however, are unbiased and completely my own.}
Thanks for sharing those great arcitectural finds with us. It would be so much fun to have a place like that in rural Pa. Alas, not be. But winning a prize from there would be great! How could I choose just one thing? I loved your bird brackets, any more of those? Please enter me in this super giveaway. Peggy fom PA
What a fun place! We don’t live anywhere near Cullman, but travel right by it once a year. Who knew such a fabulous shop was in Cullman? Definitely a “must stop” on our next trip down south. Not sure I could choose just one thing though… Thanks for sharing, Rhoda!

I would love to win this giveaway. I live about 1 hour from Cullman and cannot believe I have not been to this store yet. It is on the list for a Saturday day-trip with the trailer in tow! I am looking for some legs to make a desk for my new office area and I am pretty sure I could find something there that would be just divine! 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway opportunity! ~Iris~
Well, obviously I’ll be heading to Alabama next spring. What a wonderful place,(I think I hear the angels singing…). I really like your idea of shelves and just might have to copy that idea.

Wow, I am wondering how long it will take me to get there from Tuscaloosa??
I love the corbels, what a great give away!!
OMG!!!! What a neat place. I would love to win and maybe I could take a road trip and visit that wonderful store.
Omigosh, I’ve just died and gone to heaven! That place is… is… Wait. You’re not expecting me to be able to articulate, are you?!?
Love Love Love the large black wrought iron gate and the black urns by the outside doors. I am looking up Cullman, Al now to see if I need to take a road trip!!
what an awesome place, I would love the black gate for a headboard for a bed.
What an incredible place! I have to say that I love the beadboard stars and the beautiful decorative door knobs! Thank you for the giveaway opportunity!
We have a 1920’s house and need so many things!
Rhoda, This place is a fabulous find. I live in Atlanta and my husband and I are already planning a trip to see it. We really need something to jazz up our fireplace. When I saw your photos of the white fireplace surrounds with the mirrors and pillars, well that was it. I just hope we can find one that fits closely without too much alteration. Regardless, the trip will be such an adventure!
Thanks for doing the scouting for us. P.S. I have fallen in love with Uppercase Living thanks to you. Beth is super. Thanks!
I am interested in the doors. I’ve been looking for a unique door for our pantry (a narrow door). Looks like he might have something. Whether I win or not, I may visit his shops sometime. We are only a little over an hour away from Cullman. What an interesting place.
Judy 🙂
The drawer pulls would most definitely be beautiful in my kitchen.
Wow! What a great store! I would spend hours in a place like that. I love it

There are so many things just in these pictures I’d love for our new home in Hanceville (just below Cullman)! I had no idea this place existed so close to me and we will be making a trip up there very soon.
