Still Thrifting

In case you might worry that I’ll be out of practice on my thrifting by Spring, think again.  I still like to pop in a thriftstore every chance I get and this was one I had not been in before.  Mission: Possible Thriftstore over in the Irondale area, which benefits the Jimmie Hale Mission.   I scoured the plates and dishware and came up with this beautiful large white bowl for $1.09, with pretty scrollwork on the edges and of course it came home with me. Then, I spotted 4 of these ever-so-cute desserts plates, all sporting delicious winter drinks in the middle:  Hot Chocolate & Mulled Cider

Cappuccini and CoffeeIMG_7261

Aren’t they cute?  They aren’t old or anything, but I just thought they were too adorable to pass up at 39 cents each.IMG_7264

And my big splurge of the day?  Passing by the ladies clothes, this buttery yellow cotton sweater by J. Jill jumped out at me and for $4, looks to be in perfect condition. I love sweaters and it fits like a glove!IMG_7267

Swinging by a yardsale on the way home from the gym last Saturday a.m. (even after 10:00), I snapped up this beautiful Made in Portugal white pierced bowl for only $2.  I saw it as I was walking up the driveway and had to keep myself from sprinting for it. 🙂  IMG_7268

Those of you who have started white dish collections, be patient and take your time.  They will come to you and you’ll end up with more than you can imagine in just a short time.  You’ll probably see this beauty in my Christmas decorating.

So, see….I’m staying in practice!

You’ll notice that I have a NEW Friend Connect up on my sidebar, so if you use that feature, I’d appreciate you Friending me too!  Thanks so much, I had that up before I moved  my blog and had to start over with this one.

Also, just to let you know, the Holiday House raised just over $13,000 for the missionaries of By Provision.  Isn’t that fantastic?!  We are all so happy to be a part of it.

Great finds, Rhoda! And once again you’ve made me miss Birmingham. It warms my heart to think that your purchases benefited the Jimmie Hale Mission. Our Sunday school class used to make meals for the women and children’s shelter arm of the JHM–is it called Jessie’s Place? It’s been many years, but it was a great ministry, and it was an honor to get to be involved. Thanks for the little trip down Memory Lane!

Thanks so much for mentioning our Eastwood store in your blog, Rhoda. All proceeds go to help the Jimmie Hale Mission and we greatly appreciate your words of praise. Your readers might also like to know that we have Mission Possible Bargain Thrift stores in Pinson and Hanceville as well.
Thanks again for your wonderful words!
P.S. Yes, Richella – Jessie’s Place is our women and children’s shelter. They always need caring volunteers like yourself if you ever want to get involved again. Their number is 323-0170.

Love the dessert plates! I have such a weakness for them. You do have good luck with the thrifty finds. It is so wonderful to hear the success of the Christmas House. Congratulations on your contribution to the project!

Well, of course I want to be your “Friend.” 😉 Great buys!!! I thought of you on Saturday as I passed a GORGEOUS Fenton milkglass cake plate. I wanted to buy it so badly, but they were asking $20+ and I didn’t have that much with me. I did get a Williams Sonoma bundt pan for $2 though. 🙂 You have some good buys!!

Oh goodness, I would have sprinted and tackled you for that bowl! 🙂 It is just beautiful. I was getting very worried that you might be forgetting how to thrift and yardsale, so you set my mind at ease with this post~

    Rhoda,
I would like to replace our kitchen tile with hardwood floors in the near future. However, we are currently working on other projects so it’s on the bottom of the “To Do List.” I’m thinking of purchasing large area rugs for now. Do you have any suggestions where I might find the best deal on rugs? You always seem to get the best deals on everything you buy so I thought you would be the gal to ask.

    Gigi
