When summer gives you blue hydrangeas, what do you do with them? Why, you cut them and take them inside and decorate with them! That’s what I recently did with mine. Last year, we had a bad freeze which made my hydrangeas hardly bloom at all, but I’m happy to say they were back this year in full force and the newer ones I planted really leaped and are growing so well. I can’t resist cutting hydrangeas and bringing them in the house during this month and they are so beautiful to decorate with.
They are back and blooming so beautifully!
We inherited this bank of hydrangeas that hang over the wall of our patio and I’m so glad to have them. The first owners of our house planted them and now the house is 18 years old and they really make a statement.
After the freeze last winter, they hardly bloomed last year, but this year they are making up for it. Aren’t they gorgeous?
The other Southern Living hydrangeas I planted after the pool was done are doing wonderfully too and blooming so pretty this year. So I had to cut some and bring them in!
I added some to all my containers in the living room, foyer, mantel, and dining room.
I bought this beautiful pottery piece in Ocean Springs, MS when I was down there in March with my sister. It’s made in Canada by a pottery company and I love it. It looks like a clam shell and has gorgeous colors.
My blue hydrangeas look great with the clam shell pottery.
I took away the bunnies and just added in some blooms and a few summer pieces.
My green glass looks so great with hydrangea blooms. I’ve had this sea glass for a long time and that pretty Italian gold gilt box was a yardsale find, I think.
This clam shell was a yardsale find too, from long ago and I added my shells inside.
I’ve had this blue bottle (from the old Southern Living) for a long time and love it filled with hydrangeas. The oil painting was found in Apalachicola a few years ago. It all screams summer! The hydrangeas were beginning to fade and turn green, but they are still gorgeous. Here’s my easel from Etsy.
I love simple summer vignettes.
Of course, I added some to the dining room table and brought in my blue and white plates.
Just a simple look of greens and blues for summer.
Coral and starfish set the tone.
Bamboo and blue and white china just go together. Bamboo flatware.
You know how much I love green and blue together.
Gorgeous!
Looking to the living room.
On the mantel, all I did was add some hydrangeas to the green bottles that were there. That pineapple in the middle was a fun find at Jamestown, VA when we visited the glass factory there a few weeks ago. I still need to share that trip, it was so fun!
Hydrangeas are so fun to decorate with. Do you have any and do you cut them and bring them inside? I look forward to this every year.
I hope you enjoyed this summer tour of my home. I like to keep it simple and pretty and these touches always make me feel like summer is here and it’s a fun time of year. Enjoy your summer!

As always, I absolutely love your decor style and use of color! Do you have a link to the green and white floral table runner? I’m on the hunt for one similar.

Hi, Deborah, I wish I did, that’s from Homegoods.

SOOOO beautiful. I don’t have hydrangeas so I’ll have to find a source of good quality fake ones!

This is beautiful! I love that pottery clam shell so much. I got a giant clam shell at Home Depot and fill it with little Christmas ornaments or Easter eggs. My poor frail little hydrangeas are 2 years old and barely making it. I’m an out of place Southern girl and I’m going to have to let go of elephant ears, fig trees, and hydrangeas.

I miss my hydrangeas since we moved three months ago. I do have several dried ones I display around my home. It is like bringing the old homestead with us❤️. Have you ever dried your hydrangeas? Love all your pics today. Love the pop of green. In our new home the previous owner had a deeper green glass tile for the backsplash in her kitchen. I wasn’t too certain at first but have fallen in love with it. Learning to have patience as we bring our own touch to this beautiful rightsized home we bought. Crazy thing is it has 200 sq feet more than our previous 4 br home.😊. Loving having laundry on the main floor and our master bedroom on the main. I don’t have a lovely backyard like you do but I have a pond outside our four season porch where we have so many wildlife visitors daily.

Hi, June, that sounds ideal. Enjoy your new home and make it yours! I do dry my hydrangeas, usually the limelights later in the season.
