Without a doubt, paint is my favorite tool that I use to make dramatic transformations and changes to my rooms. Whether it’s painting the walls or painting a piece of furniture or small accessory, paint is the quickest and easiest way to update a space and it works every single time. I’m working on making some fun changes to my den and am adding a library nook in there, as well as a couple of new furniture pieces. With space on the wall to fill, I found a really cute wood console table at a local antiques store and for $89, knew it would be a good candidate for changing the color. It was painted a light yellow color and I knew that a bolder color would bring it out even more and look great in my den. Using Glidden paint from The Home Depot, I made over this little console table and it really is going to fit in my space so nicely now. Paint makes such a huge difference. If you think you can’t paint a piece of furniture, I’m here to tell you that you can! Anyone can paint. Don’t let fear stop you from picking up a quart of paint and just doing it.
I chose a pretty pinky coral red color for my console table. With the aqua blue shades I have in this room, I wanted to bring in another accent color that would liven up the room and this one should do it. I think it’s going to be fun to sprinkle this coral red around the room and lighten up the rest of the room. The color I chose is Painted Desert Red by Glidden, available at The Home Depot.
Using a brush and foam roller, I started rolling on paint, going over what was already on the piece. I didn’t prime since it had a nice coat of paint already and this paint should stick fine to the existing surface without a lot of prep. I don’t usually worry too much about pieces like this getting a lot of wear and tear, so the Satin should be fine and stick well.
After one coat, it was looking good. I liked the color a lot. I ended up doing 3 coats on most of it because red is like that. It takes a few coats to get the depth in a deeper color like reds and pinks.
And here’s the table AFTER! I love how pretty it looks with the turquoise shades of the lamp and basket. I’m using some accessories that I got from Birch Lane and I’ll tell you more about all of that later. I’ll do another post on this entire corner showing all the details. It’s hard to completely capture the color in pics and it is deeper in person.
Color makes all the difference in a room and I know I’ll enjoy this coral pinky red in here. I’m brightening up my den and going with a lighter look. Glidden has a simplified paint palette that is easy to navigate and find the perfect color for your project.
I always talk about the power of paint and it really is such a quick way to make a difference. Painting an old piece of furniture takes just a few hours and then you have a new beginning to a space. If you’re painting a whole room, the Glidden Color my Room tool is really fun to use. A great way to get a visual before you paint! MyColortopia is all about making painting fun, easy, and rewarding. They will help you choose the right colors for your project, guide you through the painting process, and get you to colorful results you’ll love. Color can spark a mood and feeling in a room and that’s why I love paint so much. It’s such an easy way to get change and find new inspiration in your spaces. An accent color can take a room to a whole new level. I chose this pinky coral color because I thought it would be such a nice contrast with the soft blues I have in this room and it’s easy on the eye. I put together a Pinterest board with my inspiration color and it’s fun to see an inspiration color all in one spot, so you can really soak it in before you commit.

I am going to paint an old wooden mirror to place over a pedestal sink in the smaller bathroom.
I also have a consoe table for my foyer. If only I could choose a colour…thanks for helping with that process. I wish you could do a more detailed painting tutorial because I know many of us struggle with getting pieces to look professional. Even a few tips would be helpful. Thanks for the chance at this. CTD
I have a chest of drawers in my bedroom that I plan to paint soon. 🙂
Wow….what I could paint with a $100 Visa gift card! I did wind up painting an old pine bookshelf this past weekend and it turned out gorgeous! Instead of the dark wood, it is now a light creamy butter color. It really is a showcase for my books and decor now; whereas before, it seemed like a “black hole”. Yes, painting really can change the look in a room.
Love the color. Now I am motivated to paint my foyer table! Thanks for the inspiration!
I LOVE the color that you chose! I am going for that turquoise look and need a little bit of something pinky-ish {not sure if that’s a real word} to contrast with the turquoise. I have a project I just completed with Glidden paint! It’s my backyard shed. We built the whole darn thing ourselves and then I in 93 degree weather decided to paint it by myself. Turned out great! I also have an armoire I painted a colonial red and is seemed like it took at least 3-4 coats of paint. So I have to agree Rhoda red is like that!
I have a bookcase-cabinet that is painted bright yellow. This needs to change. I want to tone down the paint color and use it in my kitchen.
I’m thinking of updating a bedroom suite at the lake house. I’m in the planning stages now regarding what color I will use. Could be a ‘Glidden’ color!!
I would like to use Glidden to remodel the kitchen in a DIY project.
love that coral color Rhoda. the question is what won’t i paint around the house! 🙂
helping my daughter transform her 10 year old daughter’s room into a Tween room – several painting projects in the picture – starting with a desk
I have an antique bar mirror that is just SCREAMING for way to stand out ! Paint will be the trick.. and maybe some glaze to bring out the accent scrollwork on it too??? Thanks for the inspiration!
I love the new color on your table. It really stands out now! I love adding color with accent pieces and have several on my to-do list.
My hallway is in desperate need of repainting! Thanks!
I love the console. I painted a headboard red, and to get the right color it took 6 coats. I wanted it deep and dark. It looks beautiful and was a $5 find at the restore.
I am getting my own craft room on our second floor. I have several cabinets that have to be painted for this room and this would help tremendously. Also, thank you for having a contest that all you have to do is leave a comment NOT follow twitter, follow facebook, follow pinterest, dance naked in the forest (oops that was another contest). Anyway thanks.
My extra bathroom is currently still white walls so I really want to do some kind of stenciling in there!
I would love to paint an old sewing machine cabinet.
I have a dresser I picked up curbside really pretty but needs paint please
My upcoming easy project is a table I’m going to be redoing for our kitchen.
Well, I’m a rehabber of anything. Houses. Furniture. Crafts. Junk. I love redoing anything. Like you said, paint is by far the easiest and cheapest way to rehab anything. I’m thinking of some thrifted furniture pieces that could use a coat of paint and be completely rehabbed!
