The Diningroom has a New Crown

It was love at first sight. I went to lunch with some of my friends from work on Friday and decided to stop in one of my favorite stores in Homewood, The Royal Standard (see the monogrammed trashcans in the background), to see if they had any chandeliers that might work for my diningroom. I really expected that I would have to look at quite a few places before I found one that WOW’d me and fit the budget. But, I just about jumped up and down with glee as I walked back and looked at the very few chandeliers they even carry. There it was, hanging in all its glory! Just waiting for me to come and buy it. And, when I checked the pricetag, it was scrawled in red marker with the clearance price of $158! SOLD! to me! Original price was $395, this was SO much better. This was one of the styles that I have seen lately that really caught my eye. It had the perfect shape and elegant, yet rustic look that I was going for.

I wasted no time on getting this baby up in the diningroom. Oh, and yes, Peter really likes it too! And here she is! Don’t you just love it? I’m totally in love with it, as much as you can love a chandelier. This one almost completely kicked my butt getting it up there, but I persevered and conquered. My hubby had to come and help me hold it at one point, but after that I was on a roll. I even had to take some links out and shorten the chain to make it short enough to work over the table. I managed to do that too, as well as get it all installed and working. Shades are black. Took me about 3 hours, but I did it! And wow am I glad I found this one! It’s just perfect for my diningroom.
What a beauty and I’m so happy with the deal I got too. Now it’s on to figuring out how to get the foyer light hung. That one is going to be much more of a challenge, but me and the hubby will try to get it done too. Might be next weekend before we tackle that one. I’m really happy to get this one up for now! Getting both of these lights at the same time has been so much fun. The brass is almost gone now!

It’s beautiful! I went back and looked at pictures of the brass fixture you had before. This one looks so much better with the room. The size is much better too. The other one seemed to overpower the room. Great job!

It looks wonderful… a perfect fit! I admire you for doing the wiring. Electrical work scares me. If you want to do a tutorial on the light in the foyer, I’ll be all ears 🙂

Ok Rhoda, now that is just beautiful…I mean just the perfect capper for your dining room. I’m afraid I’d have been standing in another part of the house when you first turned it on though…you are not a licensec electrician are you? You are??? A girl of so many talents! I have a new light that needs installing…if I give you supper, will you come put it in?

You always amaze me with hanging your own light fixtures! What a deal/steal! You’ve done so well with getting two light fixtures for such great prices. Your new dining room one looks great in there!

It was meant to be, the perfect light fixture, on sale, when you walked into the store. It really looks wonderful in your dining room.
I can totally relate to the time involved installing a light fixture. I spent two hours putting up mine. Ceiling fans are the worst, there’s just so many parts.

It looks beautiful! I’m amazed that you hung it yourself … I do a lot myself but nothing that involves electricity! Great price too. ~ Lynda

And a beautiful crown it is! My husband would be the one dealing with the wires though. I do some scary things but wiring is not one of them. You are a very brave woman!

    The room looks great, Rhoda!

I can’t tell AT ALL how excited you are about this chandelier! LOL. Love that feeling.

I still haven’t found a fixture for our new “parlor” but hubby seems on board with finding a small chandy to give the room character.

Also I had a SLAH party this weekend and some friends said they wanted to hire me to come help them decorate. My jaw dropped. Who me? I am a work in progress as far as being a good decorator!

Also, you were asking about good books. I am reading “Becoming a Woman of Influence” by Carol Kent. I am mentoring a single teen mom and the group of mentors are going through this book. I know in the past you wanted to try to reach out to more people to tell them about Christ. This is a great book for that!

Just gorgeous!! It IS perfect for your dining room!! You AMAZE me with your talent as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, just all around handy-woman. I have always wanted to do that and I guess you just jump in and start!! I am going to start by caulking my bathrub!!
thank you so much for the visit – and the advice on the pictures – that will work much better.
I love books too – I am in the middle of a leagal thriller by Brad Metzger – very good!!
