The Pleasures of Homemaking

P

lease welcome one of my old blog friends, Manuela, from The Pleasures of Homemaking.  She and I started blogging around the same time (she took a little break and came back with a new blog last year) and connected immediately and she lives in Atlanta, my hometown, so I have really enjoyed knowing her and sharing in blogland.  And Manuela is resourcful and loves a good project too, so she’s definitely a girl after my own heart.  Take a look at one of her recent Before and After stories:

Thank you Rhoda for inviting me to guest post! Rhoda said I could do a post on anything that I wanted so I thought I’d share a sneak peak into my family room and a before and after. We all love a makeover right!
tablebefore

I had this really narrow space next to my sofa that needed a little table. But I had the hardest time finding one. Believe me I looked for months for the right size and more importantly the right price! I finally found what I was looking for at TJ Maxx…and on clearance!

price
Yep….$36!! It was perfect except it was a bit too frenchy/romantic for my family room. So I did what I always do – I made it work with some paint magic!
primer
So since I decided to paint it black I used some gray primer first. I like the Valspar brand of spray paint from Lowes. Here’s a spray paint tip: don’t try to squeeze the last bit of paint out of a can. It never sprays smoothly in my experience. I use the little bit left in the can first on the next project or on some part where it doesn’t matter if the finish isn’t smooth (like the sides of drawers).

I know that the people that read my blog are saying “But Manuela, where’s the toile?!!” Ladies, this is a toile free zone! Yep you heard right. No toile allowed down here! (I so wanted to use some blue and red toile that I have!)
couch
My husband never complains about all the toile upstairs, but really, modern is more his style. So since the other half of this room includes his home office, I decided he should have a space that reflects what he likes.

SoI’ve been taking down all my cottagey things (good bye all my rose pictures and plates) and trying to make it more to his taste. He’s a wonderful husband and father and he deserves a space that reflects who he is (I have the entire upstairs)!
tray
Also good-bye yellow walls! All the movie posters are coming down and we’re painting the walls in the next few weeks

Thank you again Rhoda for letting me share my little makeover and the peak at my family room (which I’ve never shown before)!  I hope you all enjoyed it.

Wasn’t that a fun little tour of Manuela’s familyroom/movie space at her house.  I love how she made this over for her hubby, since we do have to take their tastes into consideration too.  Manuela is a cottage girl all the way, with a love of florals and toiles, but her hubby needed a space of his own to relax in.

Bravo, Manuela for a space well done.  I love it!  And hop over to her blog for more fun if you haven’t been there before, you will enjoy it tremendously.
