The Slipcover Finale

hank you all for coming along on the slipcover journey with me and Grandma Eleanor.  It’s officially finished now and I’m glad to say we are done.  Eleanor really put everything she had into this project and she was proud of the finished product and I am too.

That $5 fabric I found at the yardsale really turned out to be a great weight for the slipcover and I couldn’t be happier with it.  It’s not a precisely tailored slipcover, but rather a little bit shabby chic and that’s fine too.  I shudder to think of what it would have looked like had I tackled this one all by myself. 🙂 You saw the ottoman already, so here’s the chair.

We added velcro down the side of one of the seams in the back to get it in place and that worked out perfectly too.

And just because I know ya’ll want to see more of Grandma Eleanor, I took a few more videos of her on that last day we worked together.

We’ll start with me picking Eleanor up at her house:

Then, as we’re driving, Eleanor and I talked in the car along the way and I got some great dialogue with her, this one about her travels back in the day:

Eleanor loves horses:

And here we are with the finished slipcover. Eleanor thinks I’m taking her picture, I think. I didn’t tell her I was video taping, she’s so funny in this one:

Did you catch the tip she wants? Isn’t she hilarious?

She loves a little nip here and there, especially wine and is always trying to get us to stop at the store for some (says it helps her relax…you know, with that stressful life she leads :).  My hubby got her some brandy awhile back to appease her, but really her Dr. doesn’t want her drinking because of her meds.

That’s Eleanor for you!

I can’t believe you got that fabric for the slip for 5 bucks! Fabulous deal. G’ma Eleanor did a nice job on the chair.
Did you learn anything so you could tackle one the next time? 🙂

I loved hearing about her on the cruise…and the good food 🙂 Love her, how adorable 🙂 Love the slipcovers… I once read a magazine story about a family that did all the furniture in white slipcovers and they had 6 kids and Im thinking how impractical. But I read the story and they said it was great. If it got dirty they just took them off and washed them. It made so much sense, I certainly cant remove anything off my couch!

I love it and wouldn’t change a thing. Miss Eleanor is such a doll. You are very lucky to have her in your life and she is very lucky to be cherished by the “younger folks”!

    Hi Rhoda,
Every video today of Miss E made me smile and what a great job she did covering your chair. Beats anything I could ever do with a chair. I think a little nip of brandy wouldn’t hurt one bit. TFS! Sheila

What a fab job…and fun time with Grandma Eleanor! I would love to learn to do some upholstery, but I am a wee bit chicken!
    Well done…

Grandma Eleanor just makes me smile and get the warm and fuzzies. So much like my Grandma (except for the brandy-Grandma was a teetotaler). Loved the way she pretended she heard what you said. Her garden and home look so so…so Grandma like! You girls did an excellent job with that slipcover. The chair is charming and looks quite comfy too.

I love the chair! I saw a great one at GW a few days ago that would look perfect covered but I can not for the life of me operate a sewing machine, I don’t even own one, refuse to even try it, I tried and have given up, refuse to do it again!

Grandma Eleanor is adorable! I miss my grandma 🙁

The videos of Grandma Eleanor are priceless! She is just precious!!!! She did an amazing job on that slipcover, considering her age. I love the chair and your room looks great!!! So many wonderful ideas in that room. I’m glad your husband gave Grandma Eleanor a nip of brandy. That was so cute, her asking for the brandy. LOL!!! Love & blessing from NC!

    Hey Rhoda,
I loved the videos! Eleanor reminds me so much of my Memaw. I live in Upper Alabama and I just loved hearing you all talk…there’s just nothing like the South. My family has had milk goats for a long, long time. My siblings and I were raised on goats milk.
I love how the slipcover turned out! Great job!
I hope you have a wonderful vacation. 🙂
