Thrifty Treasures: 8/5/12

OH my, I’m back from NYC, after a whirlwind few days in the big city known as the Big Apple.  It was only my second time there and it’s such an amazing place, with so much energy and interesting people.  So different from where I’m from, but a wonderful place to visit.  I had a blast!  Of course, when I travel like that, it takes a few days to get back to normal, so will be catching up on sleep that I missed, as well as getting back into the swing of the house renovation this week.  Not much happened last week, since I was out of town and my parents were up at their mountain house too.

Sometimes, we need a break and we’ll be back at it this week.  I’ll share a few updates with you later on this week, but the big news is the Ikea cabinets were delivered last Tuesday.  There they sit in boxes until we can get them put together, so that might be a long process.  We’ll see!

So, while at Blogher, I had some wonderful first time experiences, like speaking on a panel at this mega conference, BlogHer.  My panel was with 3 other bloggers who are fashion bloggers and we spoke on the importance of great visuals on a blog, namely pics and that was the main topic of what we talked about. It was very fun to be included on that panel as a speaker and I was honored to be there.  We were also asked to be in a fashion show, so that was pretty exciting too.  We got our hair and makeup done and strutted down the runway to loud music, so pretend modeling was in order.  I think I’ll be able to get some pics of that too to show you. 🙂

I’ll be back later this week with some pics and more updates on the BlogHer conference this year.  It’s a giant conference and a little overwhelming, but I did get to meet up with some friends and met some bloggers I had not met before, as well as saw some old friends.  I’m very glad I went!

Oh, and I did a little house crashing too and got pics of a cute 470 s.f. 17th floor New York apartment that belongs to another new blogger I just met.  Can’t wait to share her story and home!

Let’s get to the Thrifty Treasures party this week.  As always, I’m highlighting some of your finds from last week’s party, so here we go!  Way to find those bargains.

Beaux 23

Tole trays, how I love them too!  Beaux R’eves has found a bundle of tole trays and found a cute way to display them.

birthday quilt 76

Love this story!  Mazavaroo Chilli collected scraps of fabric from yardsales and thrifting to make her younger sister a birthday quilt.  Clever and innovative present, I’m sure her sister was thrilled beyond measure over this one.

land of encraftment 66

This vintage tufted tub chair that swivels and rocks and came from Lord and Taylor was scored for $25 by Land of Encraftment.

Organized Clutter 7

I love globes too and Organized Clutter Queen’s $10 find is a beauty.

Plum shabby 21

At $7.50 for all of these old suitcases, Plum Shabby made out like a bandit.  I have some old suitcases too, waiting for their new home.

Shabby Sweet 51

Another lover of Florence Annie Sloan chalk paint, Shabby Sweet Tea repainted an old dresser that she got for FREE and brought it new life.

somewhat quirky 45

Adorable, just adorable!  I love what Somewhat Quirky did with her FREE windows.  You can’t beat free!

Weekend homemaker 26

The Weekend Homemaker scored on this chaise lounge from Craiglist and made herself a reading nook.  Love this one!

Shout-outs to Hometalk again this week! Have you joined the community of Hometalk yet? Great place to ask questions, show off your projects, and get great ideas for yourself. If you love decorating and everything about the home, you’ll enjoy being a part of Hometalk.

Did you score something fun this week too?

There are a TON of parties out there to highlight all your projects, so please let’s keep this one about thrifty finds that were bought 2nd hand! Not a great sale from the store, or a recipe, or just a plain project, but 2nd Hand finds only! And please DO NOT go back in your archives to OLD posts and link up. Let’s keep this party fresh and current! If you have already shared your find in a previous party, DON’T share it again! Please, girls, I don’t want to have to delete links.

  • Add your permalink to the link list, which is the actual post that you did for this party, NOT your general blog url. To get the actual post, after you publish the post, just click on the title and THAT will be your party post url. PLEASE try to get the correct url in the first time! :)
  • Please add my button to your post or blog OR at least link back to this post in your post. That’s all I ask. It’s common courtesy to link back to the person having the party, so that all of your readers can find it too.
  • Please do NOT link to an Etsy shop or something similar (even if you think it’s a fabulous deal) or I will delete the link. This party is for sharing thrifty finds from yardsales, thriftstores, or something along those lines. If I see that your post is not really on track with this theme AND you don’t link back, I’ll delete your link. Sorry, but I’d like to keep the party consistent!

IF YOU SEE THAT YOUR LINK HAS BEEN DELETED, IT IS PROBABLY BECAUSE IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THIS PARTY THEME.

Again this year, I’ll be highlighting great finds from the party, so if you want your find highlighted, PLEASE link back to the party. Only those who link back will be considered for highlighting the next week. Thanks! SouthernHospThriftyTreasures copy_thumb

Looking forward to more of your adventures in the “City that doesn’t sleep!” Can’t wait to see the results when you get the IKEA cabinets put together. Their stuff is a BEAST sometimes!
