Update with Spray Paint!

Welcome to the spray paint party that Sarah’s hosting today! Yay, don’t you love some spray paint?

I’ve been a spray paint fan for many, many years, way before it became a staple DIY trick in blogland. It’s fast, it’s easy, and a great way to update those uglies laying around the house.

And the paint companies are finally wising up and adding lots of fun new colors to the mix.

A perfect candidate for a spray paint project was this old pine shelf that my Dad built years ago and hung out on the {ugly} porch.  You can see how it has been used, but I knew that I could make it look better with some paint.

So I took it down, removed the hooks, sanded down the glossy top a bit and got my trigger finger ready to go.  I only sanded the top because it had a coat of gloss poly on top, so I wanted to be sure the paint sticks well.  Most spray paint is oil based, so should stick like glue when dry.

I already had this can of Hammered Brown Metallic paint by Krylon and since I’m using this as an accent on the porch, figured it would be a good choice to makeover this shelf.

And it did indeed improve this old shelf a whole bunch, don’t you think?  From blah to a lot better to look at.

Here’s a sneak peek of the wall color I went with.  Cheery and bright, it’s going to be a fun room out here now.

Next post up later today will be an update in this space.  It’s coming along!  Can’t wait to get the new furniture in here and finish it off.

Sitting out here and relaxing will be next on the list!

Hop on over to Sarah’s place for LOTS more spray paint inspiration.  You’ll want to get your spray paint on after all of this!

Funny, I also use the same Krylon paint to spray my deck area and patio.

I love the transformation of the shelf. I also like the golden hooks. I would just like to ask what’s the number or type of the sand paper you used. I’m also going to repaint my coffee table. I’m afraid to use a hard-type sandpaper.

I adore spray paint. Such a wonderful invention. =) The shelf looks really good painted and the addition of the little hooks is great. It really gives the shelf some personality.

I am still thinking of you often and so glad that you are settling in.

Great transformation and good choice of color for the porch! I’ve used spray paint recently to transform an end table, a chair (both in Krylon Class Gray which I LOVE) and I turned a frame into a mirror as well! There are so many color choices now as well as other products like the looking glass stuff. fun!
