One of the most fun parts of my job as a blogger is getting invited to events like the one I’m sharing today, the HGTV Smart home. Somehow I got on their blogger list years ago and I’ve been honored to tour several dream homes, smart homes and urban oasis homes that they have done over the years. This year’s HGTV Smart Home is actually in my hometown of Marietta, GA. They took a standard 1970’s modern home that was in a tired neighborhood and renovated it from the inside out. It doesn’t look like its neighbors anymore!
When I saw the address, I immediately thought they must have built a new house in an older neighborhood, because I’m familiar with these neighborhoods. I grew up about 4 miles from here and went to high school at Sprayberry High School, so this was my stomping grounds as they say. I missed the bigger blogger day last week when I was in Italy, but luckily there was another day before I left that was open to an invitation to lunch and to tour the home. Of course I said yes! Come along with me and I’ll show you this modern renovated HGTV Smart Home 2024.
Driving up to the house, it was immediately evident this was the one. The renovation is very modern, but I found it appealing compared to the counterparts in the neighborhood. I was enamoured with these contemporary houses growing up in the 70’s, but quickly outgrew that and embraced traditional style homes. This one was very well done and the steel roof is from U.S. Steel, very striking in looks and I’m sure will last forever.

It was very fun to tour the house and see all the modern conveniences and contemporary touches in this home, It’s a far cry from where it started that is for sure.
I loved this wallpapered ceiling!
This upstairs media space was really stunning.
We were treated to a wonderful lunch in the beautiful backyard space.
The backyard space sponsored by Trex was really gorgeous with a spacious deck and stairs down to the backyard lawn. Landscaping was all done by the talented Carmen Johnston Gardens. You might remember Carmen is the one who landscaped my old house! What a treat for me that was! I’ll never forget it.

Harper says
tried real hard to find something to like about it, but just couldn’t find it. Not my taste
Patti says
Couldn’t agree more. Absolutely nothing. Even the grass … is it supposed to be a bumpy patchwork, or is it just a really bad turf laying job?
Rhoda says
That was new sod growing in, so it was real.
Debra says
I love it! Hoping to win it!
Kimberly N Johnson says
My hometown is Marietta also. Is the house open to touring to the public? Would love to see it!
Rhoda says
Hi, Kimberly, unfortunately it’s not. They aired it on HGTV so you can see more there.
Joe Abboud says

ChefGarcia says
I love the house, specially the kitchen, backyard and the double showers in the masterbath, Im a Navy veteran living Puerto Rico and I’ve been trying to move to the US for so long that I pray every night please God let me win this home 😂, Im glad you had the chance to tour it for us.
MaryK says
We drove by as we live in the area. I was surprised at how small it looks in person. The neighborhood being what it was makes me question if they will ever realize that type of valuation upon resale. Might be a tad over-improved for the neighborhood.
Rhoda says
Hi, Mary, it’s definitely over improved for the neighborhood. Maybe the rest of the street will be inspired though, who knows?!
Rhonda says
what’s the physical address so we can ride pass the street to view from outside?
Rhoda says
Hi, I don’t know the street #, but the street is Bob Bettis Rd. in Marietta, so you should be able to spot it. It’s on the left as you come down that street.
Diana Bier says
Wow, one of the most unattractive homes I’ve seen, inside and out. Doesn’t look like a Southern home at all. I wouldn’t take it if you gave it to me.
ChefGarcia says
Yeah right!!! I would love to see the house you live in now.
Jan Odom not Matthews says
I’m glad you shared this. I’ve been entering the drawing for a month, and didn’t realize that it’s right here in Marietta! Bet it was a fun tour!
Wendy Gottmers says
The house looks great! However, I would like to see what it looked like before the renovation, to make comparisons. I am living in Canada, so aren’t privy to the HGTV show which features this home. Hopefully, they will air that show on Canadian HGTV soon. I would like to watch the transformation. I love the leafy wallpaper on one of the bedroom ceilings, as well as the media room on the second floor.
Shuronica says
Rhonda, I will MOST gratefully be ready for the ambush surprise to win this home. It will be a Blessing to me and my family. I am a wife and mother of 5. I actually spent most of my childhood summers and middle school years in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. My mother is a native. Both she, my family, and I would LOVE this! My husband is a Pastor…we operate a small but LARGE ministry in Columbus, Georgia. Just speaking it into existence…I am looking forward to our new home where we will continue to transform lives with the LOVE of GOD.
Katherine says
Wow, this is very close to my house. That neighborhood is definitely in need of some revamping but lots of the houses have good bones, so maybe this will start things up (along with Sprayberry’s improvements). I need to drive by and check it out. Not enamored of the interiors and the siding looks rough, but it is an improvement over where they started.
