We’re Having a Baby!

How fast did you click over on that one!??

Yes, we are having a baby!  Well, let me clarify.  My niece, Lauren, and her hubby, Philip, are the parents to be and Lauren is due next February. We are ecstatic, to say the least.  I’ve been dying to tell everyone, but she made me wait until that 1st trimester was passed and she told her company.

Lauren and Philip

A new baby will shake up this family big time and we can’t wait.  My mom’s prayer that the Lord would let her live long enough to see a great grandchild is about to happen. This was her wish on her 85th birthday in May and I’m so happy it is going to come true for her.  She nurtured Lauren as a child and I have no doubt this new baby will get plenty of attention from both sides of the family.   I can’t wait to take pics of my parents with this new baby.

A baby changes everything.

My sister, brother-in-law, and my mom are heading down to New Orleans over Labor Day and my sister and I will be helping Lauren with some decorating and painting projects in their new house. You can be sure there will be a nursery happening soon and who knows which direction she’ll be going.

We all found out the news on a conference call when all of us were at my parents house and she was in New Orleans.  They had just found out and announced it to all of us via the iphone speaker, standing in my parents kitchen.

I found a few inspiration pics via Pinterest to get the creativity flowing.

It will be fun to see what she comes up with. Lauren has pretty traditional tastes when it comes to decorating and likes more frou-frou décor than her hubby does (he’s way more modern), so it will be interesting to see how the nursery turns out.  Lauren loves color and fun accents, so I’m sure she will let her love of color come out in there.

Here are some varied examples of nurseries, from fun and whimsical to elegant in pink and gray.

This one from Pottery Barn is a cute boy’s room in blue and dark woods.

I think Lauren is going to use her own baby bed for her baby too, so she could definitely get a vintage look with her Jenny Lind crib.  Lauren is turning 31 this month and I’m sure my mom and her mom kept plenty of her things from childhood, so hopefully she can use some of those for this baby too.  It’s been a long, long time since we had a baby around.

You can be sure I’ll be sharing all of that along the way too and hopefully Lauren will have a baby bump by the time we get down there in a few weeks.

I can’t wait to be a Great Aunt to this sweet baby and wow, how fun it’s going to be to have a baby in the family again.  Lauren is the only grandchild and I was in my 20’s when she came along.  She was a cute, fun and mischievous child, so I can’t wait to see what personality her baby will have.  No doubt, this baby will be smart like the parents and it will be loved like crazy!

Oh, such happy news! Congratulations to everyone! I just became a great aunt and I’m very excited too. I told everyone I was already a “great” aunt but now I’m officially a “Great Aunt”.

Congratulations! A baby is such a wonderful joy!

I noticed where someone cautioned against using the old crib, but I have used the same crib Lauren has for all 3 of our babies. As long as it’s solid wood and not painted with lead paint, and the slats between the railings meets current standards, she will be fine. I think it’s so neat that the same crib that housed my brother and I also was the home to all three of my babies. Hopefully, it will be the same for Lauren.

Hey, Melissa, thanks for chiming in. I think my sister has decided to use Lauren’s old crib at her house for a nursery set up.

congrats…..and please tell her to buy a new crib….they are much safer now. I love the idea of the old one, but here in AZ you cannot sell a used crib if it is before a certain recent date.

Oh ~ a baby!!! How very exciting for all of you! What a wonderful Great Auntie you will be. Our family has not had a little one for 26 years when our Son was born. I can’t wait to be a Grammy but as he & his lovely wife will celebrate their 1st Wedding Anniversary this Sunday I’ll just have to be patience. After all, we kept our parents waiting almost 10 year so I have no room to complain!! : )
Since I’m an Uppercase Living demonstrator; I would be happy to help Lauren with any custom designs for her nursery such as the baby’s name for her wall, etc. ENJOY!!

Cngrats Rhoda When decorating the nursery don’t forget the floor. A custom initial/monogram company would be perfect!

I agree with the cautionary comments on the crib. They are much safer now!! Perhaps you and your dad could work together to reconfigure it into a sweet little settee for the nursery!
Congratulations to the whole family! So excited for you and happy baby snuggling. 🙂
