Why I Love Thrifting

Picture 007

My friend, Debbie, and I hit a couple of local antiques spots again recently.  This is a fairly new place that you local girls may not know about yet, Greystone Antiques, out my way, right on Hwy. 280 across from the Lee Branch shopping Center.  It’s an antique mall and is full of lots of goodies. Picture 009

Pretty Empire dresser in good condition.

Picture 010

Tureens for the collector.

Picture 011

Love this chair. Wish I had more room to bring home more of these beauties. Chairs are my weakness.

Picture 012

This huge mirror was so pretty, from the 1800’s, but over my budget.  I’d love to have  a very large mirror for my livingroom and it might take awhile to find one I can afford. Picture 013

White painted furniture is oh-so-trendy still.  Have they been reading blogs? 🙂

Picture 014

Some pretty aqua dishes set the table. Picture 015

A humongous birdcage waiting for someone to take it home.

Picture 016

And a wall of rustic lake memorabilia was really cute.  We have several gorgeous lakes here in Alabama and lots of folks have lake homes.  Sigh…I can only dream of that.

Picture 017

Next stop, the Chelsea Antique Mall out in Chelsea, where I found my cute corner cabinet that was rehabbed for the kitchen last year.  What a project that was! Picture 018

Love this little vignette right inside the door.

Picture 019

Beautiful old china cabinet.  Look at the detail on this baby.

Picture 020

Another china cabinet, I can see this one painted white.

Picture 022

Wall art made from old beadboard, so pretty.Picture 021

Debbie bought this gorgeous old set of shutters.  Not sure where she is putting them, but we both really love them.  They were over $100, but a beautiful statement piece.  You have to think of things like this as art.  Very original art.  Picture 023

Loved this beautiful crystal chandy.  What a statement that would make in a bathroom, huh?

Picture 024

Blue Ridge pottery that is highly collectible. Picture 025

This cute little chandy had been painted green by someone and was only $35. It needs a little work, but I  thought it was totally adorable.

Picture 026

Rough beams for the vintage look. Picture 027

Rustic table that would be perfect in one of those lake houses. Picture 028

Speaking of lakes, Smith Lake, here in AL is one of the popular ones.  I’ve heard great things about it.Picture 030

Pretty wall of a vintage sign and plates.  So, what did I find? Picture 075

A cute as pie floral apron in my favorite lime green color.  This is the first apron I’ve ever owned.  I’ve got to remember to put it on when I’m feeling domestic. 🙂 Picture 076

It has a cute ruffle and a couple of pockets.

So, that was our day out.  It’s so much fun to go browsing, just to see what is out there.  Thrifting is the best way to shop.  All the possibilities of finding unique items and furniture that can be changed to suit our homes.  That’s the beauty of thrifting.

I’m hooked on thrifting, are you?

Speaking of aprons, I have a really nice apron selection over at my Open Sky shop, in case you are in the market for one and don’t have any thrifty shops nearby.  There are some adorable color combos.

One week from today, Today’s Thrifty Treasures linky party will start up again!  Hope you’re getting ready for it. Feel free to grab the button, if you’d like.

And, I’m going to be looking for sponsors for the Thrifty Treasures parties, so if you have an Etsy shop or website and would like to sponsor a Monday party, it will be available for $25 per week.  If you’d like to offer a giveaway with it, that would be even better. I can link over to your shop and since lots of folks stop by these parties every week you’re sure to get a ton of traffic.  Please email me for details!

Yes, I love them. In the south it seems there are more antique decorating type places. We have a lot of antique stuff here in Oh but a lot of amish or primitive stuff, not me. I love when we go to visit in AR and I get to go shopping. Oh and when we go anywhere on vacation I check out all the local shops. You have great taste.

    Good Monday morning Rhoda!
I see so many things I would love to bring home from here – perhaps some day I’ll be down your way and can stop in.

Looks quite like Spring….at long last.

I so want that birdcage for my sunroom! Can anyone tell me where Greystone is on 280? I’d be traveling north from out of town up 280.

Super jealous of your great antique stores in the south. Much different here in the desert southwest.

Really neat things, Rhoda. I love hitting the antique malls on a Saturday. Sometimes it is hit or miss. Did you buy anything? I love the shutters your friend bought. Let us know what she does with them!

Sue B, it sounds like you are coming in from the Sylacauga side of 280?? If so, when you come down Oak Mountain and Lee Branch shopping center is on the left, you will see Greystone Antiques right across the street on the right side of 280. It’s just past Hanna’s Nursery.

Thanks, Rhoda! Actually I’m in Auburn but shouldn’t have a problem finding it on 280 with your directions.

Yep. I am totally addicted to thrifting. I find so many cute things that I have big plans for and then it ends up taking MONTHS for me to even do anything with them. At least I have cute stuff waiting. haha

Love the apron. I don’t have one, never have.

I especially love that first dresser. Beautiful.

With the taste of gorgeous weather we have had it makes me so excited about thrifting again. I saw a couple of yard sales out over the weekend, but didn’t get to stop. I’ll have to check out the two markets when I get down To Birmingham during spring break!

    Have a great week!

I’m local to Birmingham and haven’t been there yet, but judging by your photos, I’ll have to stop by soon! If you don’t mind saying, how were the prices. I have a hard time finding things in Birmingham between the junk and the way overpriced!
