Yardsale Diva makes the press

There I am above, doing what I love to do…scour the yardsales! This is when I picked up the cute little birdsnest with eggs. That’s a giant life sized George Bush there in the pic beyond me. Wonder if anyone bought him?

Saturday was my big day in the Birmingham News! It was very exciting to get the paper from curbside around 6:00 a.m. to see the article about my yardsaling and thrifting prowess live and in person. I really think the reporter did a great job capturing my enthusiasm with yardsaling and it seems to have been conveyed very well in the article (thank you Mary!). It was actually 2 articles, one on our outdoor space redo which also incorporated yardsale finds and that kicked off the other article on the facing page all about the yardsale finds that I’ve scored over the years. Hopefully, the yardsale tips will come in handy for others out there who want to get into this too. I promise that anyone can learn to yardsale with abandon!

Here’s the online link (thanks, Toni!) if you don’t want to squint to read this scanned version:

Yardsale Diva

See the big clock I’m hauling out of there? I should have showed the front of it as I was walking. You can see I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to the photographer, but was pretty excited about my treasures and purposefully getting them to my car.

It’s a little tricky to follow the paragraphs since I had to cut the article to scan it, but just follow the page down below and then it wraps back up to the above part. You can see how the 2 fit together if you look closely. And if you click the link above, it will take you to the online version of the newspaper, much easier to read.

My lamp redo even got a very honorable mention and I was happy it made the cut.

The patio redo feature

I was so honored to get this very good press in the Birmingham News and it should jumpstart my business now. I’ve already gotten a call from it. Living in a smaller city has some great advantages. This would never happen in Atlanta!

Thank you ALL for being such great friends over the last few months. I so appreciate all of you for supporting my blog and my dreams!

Birmingham girls: I’ve had several of you asking about going yardsaling with me, so in September, I’m going to plan a yardsale outing and anyone who wants to tag along can do so. There should be some fun neighborhood sales coming up by then.

Hi Rhoda, how fantastic for you and for your new business, you must feel extremely proud!

I read through and think you and the reporter have done the most wonderful job of portraying the world of yardsaling. It’s great that people are interested in the our secret pasttime, how wonderful that we can re-invent pieces to make a home, I SO SO love doing that, I feel blessed that I can feather my nest without having everything bought new and ‘processed’.

I am sure this article will be just the beginning for your business, you obviously have a super talent for styling and a super eye for finding treasures..a great combination

i know that I am only a very new blog pal of yours but stories like this make me proud of my values and what I’m striving for, values which I think are the same as yours from what I’ve seen…

keep up the good work and happy bloggin!

    Sarah

Great article, Rhoda. I’m sure that you will get a bunch of calls for redecorating from that article.

I’ve been looking at yardsales and “antique” shops lately – but I’ve been looking with a different eye. I’m trying to see things that I can use in unusual places or how I can change them to fit what I need. All because of you!

Congratulations! That’s a great article. Some really good tips. We’ve been scouring yard sales recently and all I’ve come up with is a cool $3 mirror for the house. My 4 y/o son however thinks YSs are great and has lots of new puzzles, books and cars to prove it!

I look forward to trying out another YS next weekend!

Hi Rhoda, Congratulations! Great article. You looked very nice too. I don’t think I could ever be brave enough to have my picture in the news paper. But you did good, home girl, to those who don’t know, I’m live here in Birmingham too. Well I just stopped in to say, it was a very interesting article Rhoda, and your pictures were very flattering.
