Feature Friday: Ruby’s New Kitchen

in Decorating Details,kitchen

One of my dear friends in Atlanta, Ruby, just had her kitchen remodeled, so I just knew this would be something you’d all enjoy seeing.  She knocked out a wall between the kitchen and mudroom off the garage, to open up her kitchen making it much more spacious.  With all new glazed cabinets, a Shaw farmhouse sink, new gas range with pot filler, and a huge black island, it is a kitchen worth drooling over now.  She said she’s actually cooking more too.

I was home over Thanksgiving and got to see it in person and it is just a beautiful space.  She now has a spacious black island to really work for her.Lots of room in this kitchen now.Seeded glass doors bring in some sparkle and let the cabinets shine. She added a little sink on this end of the kitchen too, which I’m sure comes in handy. So pretty and spacious.I love the range area with pot filler and the way the cabinets are staggered. That’s always a great look. She said she fell in love with the Shaw farmhouse sink and that’s what got everything started.Toile valances let in plenty of light in the windows.Right bank with the fridge and ovens. What a beautiful kitchen.

Hope you enjoyed touring Ruby’s kitchen! I know she is proud of this one and I can see why.  So glad we got to catch up again too.  She’s a very special friend of mine.

Beautiful! Love the attention to detail, especially the valence and the hooks it hangs from. I’m curious though….why didn’t she paint the doorframe surrounding the brown door?? One doorframe leading to another room is white, while the doorframe around an actual door is brown. I’m confused as to why they aren’t both painted white. I know nothing about decorating and fail at it totally, so I’m sure there’s a reason! Just wondering what it is!

Hi, Kate, she mentioned that she painted that door and frame to the same as the wall color to blend in, since this door goes to the garage. She didn’t want to highlight it, but I think she has decided to go back & paint it white, the same as the other doors, just to keep it consistent. It was an experiment, I think & now she changed her mind.

What a beautiful kitchen! We put in the same sink in our kitchen 2 years ago and love it! Would love to see some before pics to show the difference. What great choices in the updates!

OMG! I love it! From the window valances to the wood floor! Love the cabinets and the island {including the glass doors and the colors}. I am really hoping that when we down-size I will luck out with the kitchen. She has a lot of touches in here that I’d love to have.

That is a gorgeous kitchen. Love the valance fabric and oh how I wish I could have had a farmhouse sink when we remodeled, but we would have had to change the existing cabinet where the sink is and it would have been to much extra work and expense. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

Wow, what a terrific kitchen! I was intrigued by the window treatment. Looks like drapery tiebacks set vertically across the wall and then the valence is tied? looped? bunched and attached? Did it come that way? Can someone tell me how this was done? I have the same type of window in my kitchen.

I love her kitchen. I am so pleased to see that she didn’t use the stainless steel appliances. I also love the antiquing on the cabinets. I’m bookmarking the post for a reminder, when I finally make a decision about updating our kitchen cabinets.

What an awesome kitchen! I love everything about it, floors, walls, cabinets, sink, pot filler, wall color, fleur de lis decorations, etc.
One of my neighbors painted her white laminate cabinets and they look similar to what your friend has. Maybe one day, I’ll be brave enough to attempt changing mine. :)

Your friend, Ruby’s, kitchen is just grand. We remodeled our kitchen a few years back (you can check it out on my post dated 10/15/10 if you are interested). We had about the same vintage kitchen that Ruby started with, but have been so pleased with all that we did. It’s now my favorite room in our home, well, maybe 2nd to my Playroom aka Craft room! Anyway, thanks a bunch for giving us the tour.

So glad y’all enjoyed Ruby’s kitchen. I knew you would! She spent a few months getting it just right. For those asking about wall color, I’m pretty sure that it is an old Sherwin Williams color called Praline. you may still be able to get it. It’s in their OLD fandeck, along with the color Dromedary Camel, which was a popular strip from a few years ago. The new fandeck strip that is similar is my Whole Wheat color strip, so look at that one too.

I love this kitchen. It is exactly what I would put in my house if I could afford it! Beautiful. One thing that caught my eye, the lovely curtain treatment. I love the drape. Could you please find out how they are hung? It looks like a small hook with a device on the end to hook/hold the fabric? Where do I get these? Thanks for your help!

Reply

46 Rhoda December 19, 2010 at 3:43 pm

HI, Robyn, I helped Ruby with these window treatments, so I can tell you they are hung on some curtain tie-backs. They are curved with a fleur de lis on the end and we just mounted them above the windows and the valance has a little fabric hook that attaches over the tie-backs. I don’t remember where we found those, but look around for drapery tie-backs. She had the valances made by a local seamstress several years ago. There are some similar treatments at Pate-Meadows website, so check it out here:

What a pretty kitchen, I just adore cream cabinets, not a fan of white. I love all of her touches and I notice a door that must lead to a pantry or garage, love how she just made it disappear, very clever.

Thanks for the tour Ruby…..

Kathy :)
