A Christmas Tree Urn

Last year, I put my big tree in a garden urn that I had picked up yardsaling. It’s one of those plastic urns and it was an OK color, but this year I decided to make it officially my Christmas urn and painted it a bronzey color to better go with my tree and Christmas decor.

I found a can of Brown Metallic Hammered by Krylon Fusion spraypaint which is good for plastic and went to town spray painting my urn. IMG_7719

Now, doesn’t that look a LOT better?!  Fitting the tree in there is not a big problem, however, you may want to secure it with some bricks or rocks at the bottom.  It has a tendency to slide over, but once it is up and finished, it shouldn’t be a problem.  I did this last year and didn’t lose it, so I have high hopes for this one too.IMG_7718

I did put a couple of big rocks in the bottom and that helps anchor it a whole bunch, so if you get a wild hair and want to try this, do that little trick too.IMG_7827

Our Christmas party was so much fun!  Good times with our friends and everything was delicious.   I’ll report in on that later, too tired right now! It’s been a hectic few days.

Thank you ALL so much for joining the Christmas tour this year, I’m just thrilled with how many stopped by and linked up.  I am going to try to get by to every single one of you and see Christmas as your house too, I just haven’t had a minute to slow down and catch up, but I will soon!

I had a lot of fun as a guest for my friend, Shannon with Southern Beauty on Blog Talk Radio, and if you’d like to listen in, you can catch it here, we talked about Christmas decorating.  I came in about 15 minutes into the show:

I love the urn idea. I always see beautiful trees in the magazines and they are always in a gorgeous urn. Your idea is great and the color is so pretty. Love it.

I love this idea – we were just saying that we might’ve waited too late for doing a BIG tree this year. This gave me some real inspiration on what I could do instead – I know just the spot!

Love your urn! You’d never know it was plastic. I had a great time touring everyone’s holiday homes, Rhoda. Thanks for hosting!

Thisis a lovely idea. I have two urns outside my front door and have no idea what to do with them. They are very heavy, so maybe I can use this idea as an outdoor decor. I wonder if the paint will adhere to stone, or concrete (whatever they’re made of).

I have my mother’s concrete swans by my front door and they are painted with Kilz paint. Holds up really well. I put growing geranaiums in the summer and silk poinsettas in them during the winter.

Love this look, Rhoda! What height is your tree? I’m afraid to try it with my 9′ tree. Husband thinks it would be too large to stabilize in an urn. Any thoughts?

    Hi Rhoda,
I love how your Christmas tree looks in the urn. I’ve actually been thinking I need to buy a new tree skirt for next year but maybe I’ll keep an eye out for a pretty urn instead.

I just got a chance to visit your Home for the Holidays post and it was so much fun wandering through your home with you. From the minute your front door opened until the very last photos of your black console table I was oohhing & aahhing!! Your home is beautifully decorated and looks warm and inviting. Now I’m off to look at all the other homes that linked up to your post and to enter your great giveaway for the Tassimo Beverage Maker. TFS! Sheila

I love that, will look hard for one next year. I went over to the girl doing the glass blocks, what a neat idea.

Thanks, girls! Hope you’ll try the urn too.

Jill, my tree is 7 1/2 feet tall and the bottom part of it sits on the edge of the urn. You may be able to get a bigger one for your 9 foot tree. I don’t see why not, if you get one with a big enough lip on it to help keep it stable. Mine hasn’t slipped at all once it is in place.

Wow! I love this idea! This is the perfect solution to my problem. I have an empty urn sitting in the garage and a tree without a skirt on the front porch. I was going to pick up some fabric tomorrow but I think I’ll try this instead! Thanks for the inspiration (and saving me some money)!

Now that’s a great idea!!! I wonder if you could adapt that somehow for a live tree. Hummmm?? You got me thinking!

I love this idea. Could you add a picture of it with the tree? Also how much taller is the tree now?

    Thanks,
