The Winner is: #228, Phyllis! Congrats, Phyllis, you have been emailed!
So excited to share a new book with you today!
My friend, Ana White, has just published a brand new book, all about handbuilt furniture. She is a mom and wife from Alaska and a dynamo with power tools. She started her blog a few years ago which grew out of her love of furniture making. After not being able to afford new furniture for her home, she taught herself how to use her husband’s power tools and began building her own, based on designs from Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and other stores. She drew up her own plans and shares them for free on her blog.
This book, The Handbuilt Home, documents 34 of her simple, stylish, and budget-friendly wood-working projects and you are going to love it!
Designer Furniture for a fraction of the cost? Yes, you can build it!
Ana flew all the way from Alaska this past summer to join us for the Haven Conference and it was so fun to meet her. She’s beautiful, adorable, just plain nice and is a tiny little thing, who you can’t imagine using hefty power tools. But, let me tell you, she knows her way around them now! She is self-taught and so smart to come up with all the plans she makes and she has made them all available on her blog all these years. It’s no wonder a book publisher came a-calling!
Ana had no woodworking skills when she got started. She and her hubby built their first home themselves, board by board, paycheck by paycheck. When they moved in, they had no money to buy the nice furniture they really wanted and refused to settle for low-cost particle board, so Ana taught herself how to build and made her first project, their bed. Since that time, Ana has built hundreds of pieces of furniture and now has a huge website, Ana White Homemaker, where she gets over 4 million pageviews a month from homeowners who love what she does and uses her building plans to make their own furniture too. Ana has inspired so many people to pick up power tools and do it themselves and I just love her story!
She’s offering one free project from the book, the farmhouse bench, here at this link from the book.
And if you’d love to get a copy of Ana’s book too, we’re giving ONE away to one of my readers!Â
All you have to do is leave a comment telling me that you’d love to have the book for yourself. It’s a beautiful book and I’m so proud for Ana.Â
Is there a furniture piece that you’d love to be able to make yourself? Tell me in the comments!
{Giveaway will be open for 1 week and will close at Midnight on Thursday, Nov. 8th. U.S. residents only please. I wasn’t paid for this giveaway, but did receive a free copy for myself.}

Wow! I would love, Love, LOVE a copy of Ana’s book!
Yay! Ana white is my personal hero! The first time I saw one of her pieces I was so proud to be a woman! I have been a furniture painter for years, taking garage sale $5 chairs and making them look like a million bucks. But building? I never tried and I am so excited to start … Particularly a farmhouse table. What a fun thing to tell my grandsons that Grandma built it! In fact, they are 8 and 6 … I think it might be time to teach them all about tools. I can’t wait!
My husband and I are about to own a big old 1909 house in Detroit, and we have NO furniture to fill any of the rooms, so this would be perfect for us! HE, in particular, would love this.
I would love to win this book. I absolutly love high end furniture and have great plans but have no money to put my plans in action. I do have some power tools that have been bought for me as gifts but I have not idea how to use them. I am going to jump over to her website.
Thank you,
Tammy
I would love her book! I have been a big fan of hers for a while now. My daughter and her husband just bought their first home and I know this would be a fantastic gift for her and her husband.
She is truly an incredible woman! Thanks for chance to win her book.

I discovered Ana White a few years ago and am amazed at her skills! My newly retired hubs likes to do woodworking projects and would enjoy having her book to get new ideas and instructions. Congrats on Ana for getting published!
This girl has talent! I have been reading her blog for about 6 years now. Would love to win this…. here’s hoping! Rhoda, your new house looks amazing!
~ I would be So delirious if I won a copy of this book.~
The power of a woman and a tool! Thanks for the giveaway.
This book sounds wonderful! I would love it for my husband who is in the garage building a piece of furniture based on a Pottery Barn chest. My daughter asked him to build it for her Christmas present this year.
Ana’s story sounds similar to ours. The first piece of furniture Peter made us, was a replica of a cogwheel coffee table from Ethan Allan some 40 years ago. It stills serves us well in our family room. I’m so in awe of anyone with this talent, and this book would be a terrific Christmas present for him to get more ideas. Thanks so much.
I would love to build a table and benches.
I would love to win her book! We’re already looking at some of her online plans for a built-in desk for our office!
I would love to make a coffee table! I didn’t think I could do it – but who’s to say I can’t! I bet I can!
Oh….I would love to get this book and give to my son and daughter-in-law. My son always gets such pleasure out of building something himself! 🙂 Thanks
