The Winner is: #228, Phyllis! Congrats, Phyllis, you have been emailed!
So excited to share a new book with you today!
My friend, Ana White, has just published a brand new book, all about handbuilt furniture. She is a mom and wife from Alaska and a dynamo with power tools. She started her blog a few years ago which grew out of her love of furniture making. After not being able to afford new furniture for her home, she taught herself how to use her husband’s power tools and began building her own, based on designs from Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, and other stores. She drew up her own plans and shares them for free on her blog.
This book, The Handbuilt Home, documents 34 of her simple, stylish, and budget-friendly wood-working projects and you are going to love it!
Designer Furniture for a fraction of the cost? Yes, you can build it!
Ana flew all the way from Alaska this past summer to join us for the Haven Conference and it was so fun to meet her. She’s beautiful, adorable, just plain nice and is a tiny little thing, who you can’t imagine using hefty power tools. But, let me tell you, she knows her way around them now! She is self-taught and so smart to come up with all the plans she makes and she has made them all available on her blog all these years. It’s no wonder a book publisher came a-calling!
Ana had no woodworking skills when she got started. She and her hubby built their first home themselves, board by board, paycheck by paycheck. When they moved in, they had no money to buy the nice furniture they really wanted and refused to settle for low-cost particle board, so Ana taught herself how to build and made her first project, their bed. Since that time, Ana has built hundreds of pieces of furniture and now has a huge website, Ana White Homemaker, where she gets over 4 million pageviews a month from homeowners who love what she does and uses her building plans to make their own furniture too. Ana has inspired so many people to pick up power tools and do it themselves and I just love her story!
She’s offering one free project from the book, the farmhouse bench, here at this link from the book.
And if you’d love to get a copy of Ana’s book too, we’re giving ONE away to one of my readers!Â
All you have to do is leave a comment telling me that you’d love to have the book for yourself. It’s a beautiful book and I’m so proud for Ana.Â
Is there a furniture piece that you’d love to be able to make yourself? Tell me in the comments!
{Giveaway will be open for 1 week and will close at Midnight on Thursday, Nov. 8th. U.S. residents only please. I wasn’t paid for this giveaway, but did receive a free copy for myself.}

I would love to have plans to be able to make a piece of furniture of my own. Just to have the accomplishment of a beautiful piece. I have been looking for a cute simple table for my entry way. So if I found it and even made myself would be great!
I’d love to win Ana’s book!! I would love to have a fabulous table like the one pictured!! Not sure if I could make it but I know someone who could!! 🙂
I would love a copy of this book! My partner and I have perused her site many times and cooed over the furniture she builds. We’re hoping to use one of her plans to build our dining room table toward the end of the year 🙂
I would love to win a copy of Ana’s book! I love her plans and so far the hubby and I have made a trashcan cover and the farmhouse bed and I would love to have a farmhouse table next!!
I would love to have this book, so I could build some furniture.
Would love to win this book! I am in Ana’s shoes, or at least the shoes she used to be in — I can’t afford new furniture. (actually I prefer old and upcycled stuff!) I am very handy with tools and would love to give some of her projects a shot. Let’s see, what would I build first?? Is there a desk in there? I sure do need a new desk for my office.
Would love a copy of the book! My husband and I love to DIY!
I’d love to be able to have that mudroom/entryway bench and shelf, it would fit perfectly in our entryway. I also love that freestanding leaning bookshelf. My husband and I are complete novices at building, but I’ve seen Ana’s plans and think we could do it!
Boy, do I ever need this book. Big time!
Thank you for the contest.
Recently I showed my husband some plans from Ana’s website for a window seat that I’d like him to tackle. Then I showed him the website because I couldn’t find the printout anymore. Now he’s hooked! Last night he was looking for plans to a farmhouse table. I’d love to give him the book for Xmas!
The kitchen table is really beautiful, and I would love to have one like it. To build it one’s would be truly amazing!
What a great giveaway! I would love to make my own entertainment center for my family room! I am sure this book would help me with that!
I would love the book! I have loved Ana’s site and have a “to-build” list for the hubby & I to start from her site as soon as he’s done’ with school. In fact, for our anniversary in Feb I requested hubby get started on a new headboard and gave him the plans from her site! 🙂

Thank you for the chance to win this awesome book! I would love to make any of her projects, but especially an island for our new kitchen (we are moving soon) or a sofa table!
I would love to have Anna’s book. My husband has bought me a miter saw and a big shop saw. Now I can begin working (not much experience) at building furniture! I am so excited!
I love, love Ana White’s site! You’re right, it’s hard to imagine such a petite little lady using power tools! I found the plans for our porch daybed there and had my handy husband build it for our covered porch. I’m wanting to make a coffee table next! Thank you so much for the giveaway!
I love that she did this without any training… She is so talented!
I would love for my husband to make a platform bed. But better yet, with this book I could probably due it myself.
