Shabby Aqua Blue Shutters

Those shabby aqua shutters have landed on a corner of the downstairs den and I do believe they look right at home.   With several different colors of paint, they are a peely, chippy treasure and I really do love them.

And as usual, I got the eye-rolls from my hubby who had to ask how much I paid for these sweet things.  No, he doesn’t understand why I’d pay $80 for this pair of worn out shutters, but he just shakes his head and lets me do my thing and for that I am grateful.

I decided to put them right here in this corner where the sofa and loveseat come together.

I’ve showed you this room a couple of times, first here, where I talked about putting a room together mostly from scratch and how I planned this room out and later when I brought home the black architectural piece from the Eddie Ross/Scott’s shopping trip in January, which was tons of fun.

So, this room has evolved some over the last couple of years and while the bones have stayed the same, I’ve been tweaking here and there.  I got rid of the large fake palm tree that was in the corner and I’m going to try to keep this real plant alive in this low-light room.

It’s still a cozy space and I’m even happier with it now.

The entertainment center takes up one whole wall.

Grandma Eleanor’s painting landed down here too and is a good fit for this room.IMG_6170

I’ve tweaked this desk a few times and have added the bamboo wall shelf above and really like how it’s coming together.

The black architectural piece under the botanicals makes that wall complete.

And here we are back to the shutters.  I’m really loving how bringing in old vintage pieces like this  into a room can just change the feel and make it have a whole different look.

And I love how the shabby aqua colors really pick up the colors in the window panels too.

I want to bring in a few more pillows in this aqua color and the rug has some of it too.  Should I cover that red lampshade with some of my neutral burlap that I have stashed?  I thought about doing that, but there is plenty of red in the rug too, so I might just keep it as is.

I found these pillows last year at a yardsale, but I may pass them on and bring in more of the aqua, cause I love aqua, chocolate brown, and gold together.IMG_6179

In fact, I found this aqua and brown houndstooth fabric on clearance at Hancocks a couple weeks ago and got enough for 2 pillows and already picked up 2 feather inserts for it.  Eleanor will probably make these for me too.

So, a little more tweaking and I’ll be done! Just thought you might like to see an update in this room especially with the newly added shutters.  I’m really happy I found them.

In case you haven’t heard the news yet,  there’s a brand new magazine coming out next Spring called Flea Market Style and they also have a new blog all about behind the scenes at the magazine, by popular co-editors Matthew Mead, Linda MacDonald, and Ki Nassauer.  Check them out here:
