One of my recent excursions took me to historic and quaint Jekyll Island, Georgia and I couldn’t believe I have never been here. I’ve lived in the great state of Georgia since I was 6 years old, but somehow I never made it to this part of the Georgia coastline. Savannah, yes and all points north, but not to Jekyll. It’s so quaint and special on this little plot of sandy soil and the Jekyll Island Club is amazing to see.
The Jekyll Island Club hotel is a Georgia National Landmark and after seeing it, I definitely see why. It’s a throw back to the olden days of the wealthy coming South for the winter, where it flourished in the 1930’s.
We didn’t get a chance to go inside (not enough time), but I was happy to at least take some photos of this beautiful place. You can imagine the ladies and gentlemen who have walked on this green lawn.
What a special resort it is and I can’t believe I’m just now seeing this place.
What I love about coastal Georgia, South Carolina and Florida is the Spanish moss that drips from the trees. Part of my childhood growing up, mossy trees are so pretty and unique to the Southern coastline.
There are several cottages along the drive to the Jekyll Island hotel and I can’t imagine how beautiful these must be inside.
Moss Cottage, 1896, what a treat. I didn’t grow up in the wealthy class, so this would not have been part of my young years.
Goodyear cottage, from the Goodyear family.
Another pretty cottage along the driveway.
Those dripping oak trees get me every time.
Even though it was cloudy this day, it was still so serene and peaceful.
Yet another cottage.
These trees were like sculptures, with their bending limbs, touching the ground and moss hanging and blowing in the breeze.
I imagine that these trees are quite old.
And they are abundant on this little barrier island of Georgia.
See, I can’t get enough of them, touching and rooting in the ground.
I’m not sure what this building is to the side of the Jekyll Island hotel, but it sure is pretty.
That mossy green color is right up my alley.
We also took time between rain drops to take the beach walk out to the beach behind our hotel, the Hampton Inn. It’s right on the beach, but you have to go along this pretty beach walk to get there.
I love boardwalks to the beach, don’t you?!
That’s my friend, Lucy, taking pics on the beach.
We took time to check out the beach and so glad we did.
The back of the Hampton Inn, looking at the pool. I can imagine what a peaceful vacation could be had on Jekyll Island, a quaint and perfect little place in Georgia. I hope to have the opportunity to go back one day.
You got great pictures! I loved seeing these!!
What wonderful buildings these are. I too have not been to Jekyll Island but after seeing these photos I think I will need to make a trip and do some painting of these doorways and homes, just beautiful!
The Georgia coast is beautiful. Like you, I love Spanish moss. The resort looks beautiful. I think they should invite you to stay. Or maybe you can hold Haven 2014 there!
Love those moss dripping oaks. Thank you for the photos. It is so beautiful. Lucky lady.
I love Jekyll Island. We have been there once and we loved it. It is truly beautiful. Thanks for the pics.
Your pictures are just so pretty! Jekyll Island has always been one of our favorite vacation destinations. I love all of the history and elegance that go with the island. I also love that it is more family oriented and not such a party beach. Just a beautiful and peaceful place to visit. Amelia Island is another great destination on the Georgia/Florida coast if you ever get the chance to visit.
Hope all is going well with you.
Beautiful!
The trees are lovely and remind me of the trees at the Grand Hotel here in Fairhope. Your photos are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing your visit to Jekyll Island. The photographs are beautiful. I too love the Spanish moss.
I’ve taken a yearly vacation on Jekyll Island for many, many years now. It’s one of my favorite places to visit. Everytime I cross the causeway to the island it feels like I’m coming home.
Your pictures are beautiful and make more eager than ever for our July trip.
My husband could not wait to take me to jekyll island after we married! We stayed at the club and it was beautiful. So much history there, and great shelling at that time. I believe part of the movie Glory was filmed on Jekyll’s beaches
I remember the 1st time I saw an allee of Spanish Moss on the great oaks; it was mystical!

I’ve lived in GA all my life and have never been to Jekyl Island!
We were on Jekyll Island for my nephews wedding about 5 years ago and fell in love with it! We biked, strolled, enjoyed the beach. Loved walking down the quaint streets with all the cottages! This is a place we will definitely return to!
thank you for taking us with you on this lovely day trip Hugs!!
Such beauty, glad you made the trip and took so many great pictures. Love the trees with the moss. So very pretty.

Rhoda – What a beautiful place. I have friends who live on St. Simons and they are always telling me how gorgeous it is down in that area. They were definitely right.

Looks like a lovely place to visit!
Ooooooo pretty. So fairytale-ish.
Beautiful pictures. I was married at the club hotel, beautiful and wonderful food! The building to the side is the staff quarters, they are often college students or from other countries. Have you been to Saint Simons Island next door to Jekyll? Just as special, unique, and beautiful!
