Birmingham Botanical Garden Orchid Sale

Just a couple of weeks ago, our Birmingham Botanical Gardens had an orchid show and sale. I decided I must check it out and already showed you the orchid I brought home. Thanks for all the tips from those of you who have grown orchids before.  I’m really going to try to keep this one alive.

I took my camera with hopes of getting some nice orchid shots too and had a ball trying to capture the beauty of these delicate flowers.  I ended up taking  a lot of pics and was pleasantly surprised at how well they turned out. I want you to know that these pics are edited for contrast, size, etc., but I did nothing to the color.  This is straight out of the camera beautiful. It was amazing how many different varieties there were and all the color combinations they had.  I have no idea what all the names are, I didn’t take notes on that.  My intent was just to capture as many blooms as possible with my camera.

Note on my camera:  taken with Canon T1i, with 50mm1.8 lens.

So enjoy the show!!

This is the one I brought home, a soft and delicate green/yellow shade.

Aren’t they all beautiful and different??  I was just drooling over all of them.  Thanks for going along with me and I hope you got inspired for orchids too. I stopped by the Leaf and Petal, the giftshop at the gardens and they have some lovely items in there.  All are garden related and such pretty things to look at.  Wreaths. Pretty mercury glass votives.

Botanically inspired pillows.

How about a big colorful grasshopper on your pillow? Potted flowers and a gorgeous driftwood mirror frame. Simple green bottles filled with fronds.  Elegant and easy.

Loved the big urn with mossy ball inside, along with the green bottles. Feast for the eyes. I had to come home with 3 of these little white guys.

Cute owl on a pumpkin. And a Limelight hydrangea in bloom.  I have a huge Limelight and love it.  It’s a bloom buster for me.

Hope you enjoyed the orchid tour at the botanical gardens.  It’s a treat for the eyes!

I’d love to know the orchid growing tips you’d received! Would you consider a post just about growing orchids? Thanks!

Beautiful pics! I only tried an orchid once and it didn’t fare well. But that’s just me. Everyone tells me they’re easy to grow. I’m convinced I have a green soul but a brown thumb.

I love how Jane H. put it “I am convinced that I have a green soul but a brown thumb.” THAT is me….. I have tried to have an orchid once, but it started looking sad, so I gave it to my sister-in-law who has done well with it. I can keep a cactus alive 🙂
I love your pictures! ( I am also a photographer at heart, but have no aim :P)

Great pictures. I have never tried keeping an Orchid, but I have a beautiful Limelight Hydrangea and I dry some every fall. Good luck with your Orchid.

such beautiful photographs! I absolutely adore orchids. Besides their beauty I think they are such a great investment. I have one orchid in my living room that has been blooming for 9/10 ‘months’!! In fact I was just mentioning that to my husband this morning as we were having coffee in the room!
I think they get a bad rap for being difficult to grow but I have grown them in dark-ish spaces before (last house) and find they will thrive anywhere! I water about once a week, that’s it, I don’t even fertilize.

    happy weekend,
    joan

    Rhoda,

Thank you for taking us along with you to The Birmingham Botanical Garden Orchid Show. I would have loved to attend in person. What a treat for the senses! Your photographs are stunning. (Don’t you love your Cannon? I am so pleased with mine.) That wreath is gorgeous as well. I have a huge Limelight hydrangeas along one side of the house. They are beautiful and so bountiful.

    Your Friend,
    Deborah

The orchids are really beautiful! I love them, Rhoda. But i would not dare get one and try to grow it. I have given up on indoor plants, I guess it’s a good thing that it isn’t really in vogue anymore, except for the th orchids of course. The other things you found are really great, I especially like the grasshopper on the pillow. I love finding unique items, don’t you?
Did I thank you for coming over and giving me your opinion on my church paint color dilemna? If not, then thank you so much, I really appreciate the input of people in the know. You are a wonderful bloggy friend and I love you.

The orchids are spectacular! My son gave me one for Mother’s Day and I managed to keep it alive for about 3 months. I hope you have good luck with yours.

Wow! Great work! These images would be stunning framed in simple white frames and make a great gallery. I adore orchids in all varieties but i’m sure I couldn’t keep one alive.

Hi Rhoda, what incredible pictures. It’s rainy and gray here in Mass. today, so these are a nice, bright spot in my day, thanks!

Beautiful pictures. With all the bright colors, strangely enough I like the one that is just shades of green. I have a Limelight also and it is one of my favorite plants.

The pictures are gorgeous! And you answered my question of what kind of camera. I’m feeling like I desperately need a good camera. Mine’s adequate, but that’s about it.
