While on the way back from Tybee Island last weekend, we stopped in Savannah for breakfast. Headed to Clary’s, the restaurant made famous in the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Did you read that one? I got a signed copied of the book in Savannah back in the mid-90’s when the book was all the rage and enjoyed the story tremendously. I remember hearing about this breakfast spot when I read the book. It was fun to finally visit this spot and it didn’t disappoint.
Clary’s, have you been?
Quaint and cute inside.
We sat outside on the sidewalk, just like in Europe. It was a beautiful morning watching people and taking in the historic street.
My choice of breakfast was stuffed French toast. Golden perfection, stuffed with strawberries and cream cheese between the layers and dolloped with a big helping of whipped cream. Yum, it was good!
While walking the street, I couldn’t help but admire the homes and architecture in the historic district of Savannah.
These row houses are so fascinating to me.
All colors and hues of pink and color.
The architecture reminds me of New Orleans.
Stately brick is always classic. Those huge sprawling live oak trees dripping with moss add to the character of Savannah.
Flags flying over the brick lined sidewalk.
Beautiful lanterns and entryways.
Tall shutters and check out the leafy detail of the ironwork on the windows.
I love a beautiful grand entrance like this with all the gorgeous millwork.
A mossy tree lined street.
Window boxes and gardens are definitely part of the beauty of Savannah.
Tall and stately row houses.
The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, one of the prettiest churches I’ve ever seen. Those double spires are so tall and you can see them from far away.
Madison Square.
Even though I didn’t get to have a long visit in Savannah this time, breakfast was a treat and getting to take in a few of the squares along the way was a highlight. I love Savannah so much and can’t get enough of this historic beauty in Georgia. Have you been to Savannah and do you love it too? There’s so much history and beauty to take in!
I’ve been there twice in the last 20 years while on a business trip to Charleston. Love that town but I never saw Clary’s. The next time I go I’ll be sure & try it. Love the architecture & history. Thanks for the lovely pictures.
We have never eaten there, but your French toast looked heavenly! I will make it a point to visit there the next time we are in Savannah. All the homes are beautiful!
I’ve never been there….but sure loved seeing your pictures and could just picture myself walking down those beautiful streets! Thank you!
I love Savannah too! It is one of the most romantic cities I have visited. The spanish moss that is draped on all the trees makes it seem so dreamy. The last time my family vacationed there, we wanted to eat at the Lady and Sons. Sadly, we were not aware that reservations must be made days in advance.
We were just in Savannah for a girls’ weekend getaway!! Love … Love this city .. all the history and the homes … the beauty of it all is waaaaaay to much to take in on one short trip!! lol… soooo we will be back!! Sorry i missed Clarys…. but we did NOT MISS Mrs. Wilkes’ Boarding House / Dining Room!!! OMG….. the food is beyond amazing…
Is this the original one? I think there are 2. We ate at the original one right around the corner and down from the Marshall House. We were attending a wedding at the Marshall House. The food was delicious.
