Brunch with the Girls

A few weeks ago, one of my friends invited me and some of her neighborhood ladies over for a brunch at her house and I wanted to share some pics.  Tricia has a beautiful home and is a wonderful hostess.  I’ve shared some of our lunches with you before at Tricia’s house and it is always a treat.(L to R) Tricia, our gracious hostess, Maureen, Lisa, Renee, and me.  These ladies all have grown kids, so we have dubbed ourselves the empty-nesters.  They all live in Liberty Park, but me and I’m grateful to be included in their brunch plans.  All of us are Southern except for Lisa, but we’ve decided to adopt her into the sistahood. 🙂  We don’t get together all that often, but it’s always nice to catch up when we do.  Oh, and eat.  That’s fun too. Tricia has this huge island that is perfect for entertaining.  These pics were all taken with my old camera. She made smoothies for us that were yum. And several of us brought something too.  Fresh fruit, perfect for this time of year.

Tricia made shrimp and grits (on the left) I made my baked French toast, which is a treat too. Sweet rolls on the left and the yummy shrimp dish on the right to go along with the grits.   Oh my, it was good! Fresh fruit and orange juice rounded it out.

Now, I want to share Tricia’s house with you this time.  Tricia has wonderful taste and a beautifully and elegantly decorated Southern home.  Doesn’t this just scream Southern to you?   We all ate here in the dining room in front of the fireplace.  This is one big dining room. So elegant and tasteful.

Fresh yellow roses on the table and beautiful place settings.  Tricia’s sideboard in the dining room.  Just gorgeous, Tricia’s whole house is a treat for the eyes.

China cabinet and fireplace. I’ll show you a bit more of Tricia’s house.  Here’s the front door with a pretty glass table in the foyer.  Those flowers are faux, but with flowers this pretty, it doesn’t matter.

The elegant and tasteful living room.   And the sitting room off the kitchen.  It’s all a feast for the eyes, don’t you agree?

Screened porch is so comfortable and pretty too. They entertain out here during the summer. Right outside is a beautiful flagstone patio.  Intimate and small, it’s such a pretty backyard.

Having a group of girls to hang out with and eat lunch together is always a treat and I’m so glad to have made friends with these gals.  They are all precious Christian women!   We all go to different churches, but share our faith and that is a wonderful thing.

Do you have a group of friends that you visit with on a regular or not-so-regular basis? It’s good to have girlfriend time.

Oh, I certainly agree, this is so lovely. That sideboard in the dining room is my favorite piece but then that screened in porch is probably where I would spend a lot of time.

As for good friends, I have a very special friend coming to visit this weekend. She lives hours away but when we get to see each other is as if she still lived next door!

    Good Morning Rhoda!

Tricia’s home is lovely and the food looks yummo. Perfect for a southern luncheon.

I have several groups of friends that meet often, including my Tuesday Lunch Bunch, Bible Study and Book Club. You’re so right, it’s wonderful to have groups of christian women we can spend time with.

    Hugs,
    Kat

It looks like you had a refreshing time with the ladies. Tricia’s home is lovely. Do you have any idea where she got that gorgeous painting hanging above her dining room fireplace? Love it!

Hi, Rhoda! This was such a fun post to read–and it made me homesick for Birmingham! I can’t remember if I told you that I used to live in Liberty Park. It was funny–we were new to the area, and we had rented a house in Mountain Brook for a year. As we shopped for a house to buy, we sort of wanted to stay in Mountain Brook, but my husband kind of wanted a new house that wouldn’t require much maintenance. We finally settled on Liberty Park as a good place for “outsiders” to settle. I remember that when we were looking for houses there, one of our friends from church who lived in LP said, “Yes, it’s Stepford. But it’s a great place to live.” She was kidding about the Stepford part, of course, but it was so funny. And she was right–it was a wonderful place to live. I used to get such a kick out of watching the all the kids walk home from the elementary school. It was like a scene out of the 1950’s. There were seven houses on our cul-de-sac, all families, all with stay-at-home moms. Good times.

Anyway, thanks for the trip down Memory Lane! Your friend’s house is just lovely. I found myself trying to imagine what part of the neighborhood she lived in! 🙂

What a wonderful way to spend time with the girls! It’s great that you have that network of friends. I know that is a time you truly enjoy. You are right, time out with the girls does much for your spirit.

Thanks for sharing such a lovely time!

    Hi Rhoda:)
Thank you for sharing. Her home is so lovely. I admire her choice of artwork. In fact, I think her entire home is a work of art with the way it flows so gracefully. Girlfriend time is the best time in my book. I am fortunate enough to have a group of lady friends that I see weekly and often meet for coffee and scones.

Her home is so warm and inviting! Love her patio. 🙂 The food all looks delish. I have a small group of girlfriends that gets together every Thursday to play cards while the kids play. We almost never play cards (mostly just chat), but it’s so much fun!

I have several book clubs that I started. One is a Christian woman’s group, and we meet once a month. The other group is just a chick lit book club – we meet every other month. We rotate hostess responsibilities, so it’s always a blast to spend a couple hours catching up.

Tricia has a beautiful home and what a lovely brunch you all had. I have a close group of women friends and we used to get together for dinners every couple months but now everyone has gotten so busy and the group has fallen apart. Your post has inspired me to try to get us all back together! Girlfriends are important! We need them! Rhoda, I cannot wait to try your Baked French Toast. That looks scrumptious! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I also like the top you are wearing!
