I still have more to share on my visit to Port St. Joe. Never been much for fishing, but it really was a treat this time to actually follow through the process of catching your own and eating it the same day! How’s that for fresh seafood?
Out on the boat, Spanish Mackerel was the catch of the day. We caught enough for lunch for the 3 of us and man, was it good.
While out on the boat, we got to see a fun playful display of dolphins swimming about, enjoying their day. We must have seen a dozen of them gliding through the water. They are beautiful creatures.
Back at the marina, Vic’s hubby and one of his fisherman friends got busy cleaning and filleting the fish. It’s a bloody proposition, but the end results are worth it.
Beautiful fillets, ready to be deep fried.
Vicki and I enjoyed some down time, waiting on the fish to be cleaned, so we could gobble up our lunch.
Seagulls are always hanging out at the marina, hoping for a morsel themselves. Seagulls are so cute!
Waiting for this was totally worth it! Is there anything better than freshly fried seafood? Not in my book, this has been a treat my whole life and I can tell you one thing, catching it fresh and eating it the same day is heavenly. It was SO tasty!
Just to burn off a few calories after that delicious meal, we went off for a nice long bike ride. That was heavenly too.
I hope you enjoyed coming along with me on my vacation as much as I did. I’ve got one more post from Port St. Joe, a private garden tour that we had the pleasure of visiting. It will be up soon!
Have you ever caught your own fish and eaten it the same day? First time for me, but I hope it’s not the last.

I love almost everything on her site- her stuff is stunning, it would be so hard to choose. I love, love the open circle necklace, the itty bitty heart necklace, and the molded heart necklace. I’d be happy with just one though. 😉 thank you!
Congrats, Melanie, I’ve emailed you already!
And the winner of the Seattle’s Best Coffee $100 giveaway #2 is: Patricia Lightner, who I’ve emailed also!

Wow, look at you! How fun for you. I’d love to do that do. I don’t know if I have the patience to wait around to fish 🙂

I love all your pictures, and I bet that fish was delicious! I’ve just come across your site today, and have been browsing around. I’ll definitely be back!
I was just in Port St Joe too! I took my daughter, grandbaby, and daughter-in-law to Mexico Beach for a couple of days and we went shopping and had a couple of meals in PSJ. Yes, we eat fresh caught fish all the time. My husband loves to fish “on the flats”. He brings home redfish, trout and mullet, and we love, love love them. We’ve eaten fried fish all our lives, but in the last couple of years we’ve started “pan-frying” them instead of deep frying. Sprinkled with some Tony Checheres seasoning and dipped in meal, fried in just a little oil. SO GOOD! Glad you had fun!
