Coffee Table Revamp & Kilz Primer Giveaway

{Giveaway is Closed}

I’ve been helping my friend, Vicki, with a few updates around her house and first up is that coffee table that we found down in Port St. Joe for the sweet price of $22.  I noted that it was a solid wood table and would look great painted creamy white, so Vicki bought it and hauled it home.

It was a perfect candidate for a makeover.  That blah wood was begging for a revamp and Vicki wanted to go in a creamy white cottage direction with this table with potential.

We used the same Kilz Clean Start that I used on the porch walls and gave this table a fresh coat, getting it ready for 2 coats of creamy white. The fine folks at Kilz contacted me awhile ago and offered to send me a gallon of their Clean Start primer, so I of course, said YES!

We got a sample quart of Sherwin Williams Antique White to use as the main color.

After a coat of primer and 1 coat of Antique White, she looks like a new table already.painting and distressing a coffee table

After 2 coats, we were ready to start sanding back the edges for a distressed look. painting and distressing a coffee table

I didn’t have my electric sander with me and we ran out of sandpaper, but managed to get some of it done.  painting and distressing a coffee table

It’s a really cute table now and will be perfect for her family room.  I’ll show you more in there as we get moving along on it.  Not bad for $22 and some paint!

Here’s some fun news too for ONE of you!  Kilz offered to give away to one of my readers, a gallon of Kilz Clean Start of your very own to try out.  What can you do with a gallon of Kilz?  This stuff is great for walls or furniture, so the sky’s the limit.

All you have to do is leave a comment here on this post, telling me just what project you’d like to try out with Kilz Clean Start?

I’ll choose a winner in a few days and you will receive your very own gallon of primer.  You gotta love that!  Thanks, Kilz!

I’d love to repaint a dresser at my Mom’s house for her.

Yippee another giveaway! The first project that comes to mind that would require Kilz for me is my dining room china cabinet. It has been in the garage for sometime now and is beginning to look like a permanent fixture there.

I desperately need to revamp my powder room vanity. I think this would be the perfect way to get the project started!

I want to redo our powder room this summer which will involve painting the worn oak vanity.

Looks great. Since we moved…I have EVERY wall to prime and paint after I steam off the wallpaper. This Kilz primer would come in handy.

We are re-doing our home so I could use that primer everywhere!

First off, that table turned out beautifully! It’s amazing what a can of paint and primer can do to a piece of furniture!

I would use that primer to prime my powder room downstairs. I’m changing up the color (from a shade of brown to a pale blue!).

    Hi Rhoda,

I have planned a redo for a ladies sunday school room at church. It is currently bright orange (yikes). The first step will be to patch the walls and get some Kilz to cover that horrible orange. After I paint it a more
soothing color I am going to paint a bird on a branch & a bible verse on the wall between two windows. It will probably be a few weeks before I can start on it, but it sure would be nice to try the new Kilz product on it for free! Thanks a bunch!!!

I think every woman I know has at least one piece of furniture in her home or garage waiting for the Kilz treatment! Including me. Just wondering if the Kilz first coat takes away the need for sanding down the original finish. If so, it’s a genius product.

Helen – We painted all the wooden doors and trim in our boys’ room with oil based Kilz. I never sanded anything down. I actually never painted over the Kilz, as their room is grey with white trim, and the Kilz gave that effect. We have lived with it for over a year now and it has stood the test. My boys are now 3 and 5. It cleans easily. Hope that answers your question. (I have not used the Kilz Clean Start yet.)

This primer would be great because I have a dresser that I need to paint.

I’ve been putting off making over a beautiful old china cabinet that my mother-in-law gave me. She gave me the go-ahead to paint it, but I just haven’t mustered up the time or energy to get it done. This Kilz would definitely get me in the mood for painting. Thanks for the giveaway!

I’m not sure I can pick just one project to do with Kilz. I have lots of furniture to paint, bathroom tile, 1960s dark wood paneling, wooden trim throughout our house. The projects are endless and rejuvenating.

I think Kilz is great! My daughter purchased a home, where the previous owners were both smokers. Needless to say, it smelled like stale tobacco smoke. We went in and applied Kilz to the walls and then painted. Now, she can breathe easy, no tobacco smell.

I have an oriental plant stand that is crying out to be painted a different color than the cherry it came in! This Clean Start would be a wonderful beginning for my project!

I am a huge fan of Kilz. Unfortunately, since Wal-Mart has stopped carrying it, I don’t know where to find it around my area now.
However, I would love to win and find out!
Hmm, so many projects: I have a small half round table begging to be painted. I’d use it on there.

Kilz is the primer I use for everything, but I’ve never seen this “clean” version. My lungs will breathe a sigh of relief.
I have a light fixture, a bookcase, and the porch railings on our 1840s Virginia farmhouse that are begging for some fresh paint. Only after the proper prep work is done, of course!
