Country Living: Decorating With White

{Giveaway is Closed}

The winner is Brenda with Simple Pleasures!  Congrats, Brenda, you’ve been emailed!

Country Living has been very generous with me, sharing their new books and letting me give ONE away to a reader as well.  We all love decorating books and this is another one that is beautiful and inspiring.  Especially if you happen to like the trend of decorating with white.  But, even if you don’t there’s still plenty of color to be found in this book, so don’t let the title fool you.  Stark white and nothing else would be a little bit difficult to live with. I love color, but I also love white backgrounds and this book has some great ideas for using white and mixing it all up with patterns and textures to create a lovely home.

Decorating with White

The description on the back says:

A room dressed in white may be romantic, rustic, traditional, or contemporary, but it will never be dated.  White is simply timeless.  Through a wealth of photographs, ideas, and tips, you’ll see how easy it is to bring a white palette into any room to create fresh, comfortable spaces filled with character and warmth.

page 1

And again, the book is definitely not all about white, but gives many ideas on layering it all with color and collections.

Page 2

You’ll get plenty of ideas and inspiration from the beautiful pics on every page.

Page 3

Blue and white, a fave for many decorators for years.

Page 4

Collections are another part of the book.  I don’t have room in my house for collections this big, but they sure are prettily displayed.

Page 5

If you enjoy farmhouse style and new country decorating, you’ll love this book and will be excited to have it in your collection.

If you’d like to win a copy of the book, all you have to do is leave a comment, again telling me why you like decorating books and what you’d like to take away from this one.

I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

Christmas in July!  Is it too early to think about Christmas?  Probably so, it’s really hard to think about it with heat and humidity going on, but here are a couple things to keep in mind WHEN you get ready to start thinking about Christmas this year:

Christmas in the window

I like to do small vignettes around the house, with bits and pieces of Christmas cheer, like in the window of my kitchen.

Adding Christmas dishes is a fun way to get in the festive mood for welcoming guests to your home.  I can’t quite think about it yet, but it will be fun once again when the season arrives.

One of my sponsors,  Payless Decor is having a Christmas in July sale this week and I wanted to tell you about it.  All of the beautiful blinds in my home came from Payless Decor and I have loved them, they make my windows!

Here’s the code if you want to check out the sale:  SH10XMAS713 for 10% off anything over $100. thru 7/25.

We renovated a few years ago and most of my decorating now is white!! I haven’t bought a decorating book in quite awhile so it would be fabulous to have this one. 🙂

Hi, Rhoda! I’m such a “color” person, so I thought I’d never consider decorating with white…but I do get so inspired by these white interiors, so I’d love to check out the book!

I started my love of decorating books early in my marriage, 39 years ago, through the discovery of Alexandra Stoddard and her books. Went through the whole shelf at the library of old to new home decor books. One of the rather fun ones I purchased came much later, “Creating a SenseSational Home” by Willits. She focused on using the senses we have in our home decor. Has led to having a candy dish available for the grandchildren, mostly to teach them to ask, not just take, and an opportunity for them to use good manners.

I will be moving into a new home alone for the first time in over 50 years. Looking forward to making it mine and choosing colors, furniture and accessories that are more girly and reflect who I am at 70. I do love decorating books and could use any help that I can get! Ideas welcome.

My heart starts pounding when I see a really nice decorating book! My weakness is decorating magazines (a bit more affordable). I have always loved color but seemed to be intrigued by some of the all white spaces. I would love to see the photos in the book to learn more how to incorporate white without having it look funny! I’m in the process of painting my kitchen cabinets white!

Love CL! I’ve been a subscriber for years, and even have the blue & white BR above pinned. Would love to have this as a compilation of so many tear sheets, all in one place! Then, perhaps, I’d be more willing to share the mags with friends. 🙂

A person can never have too many decorating books! Country decorating has always been my choice. I believe a basic white decorating palette has more versatility. I have “colored” myself in to a decorating corner in ages past with a limited color scheme. Our master bedroom is currently white on white on white, with texture being the focal interest. I would delight in having a copy of this Country Living Decorating book. Thanks for the opportunity to win a copy.

I love Country decorating books. I have a fair collection of them and I get them out at least every couple of weeks to get myself fired up and inspired and then go off and rearrange the things in my home for a better look. They also help when planning a full re-do such as the one I am currently undertaking to bring lots more white into my spaces and then sprinkling them with fresh new colors. This book would be perfect inspiration!

As for Christmas…way too hot to think about yet! But I am keeping the season in mind as I re-do the rooms in my house with thought to how I will decorate with my Christmas things when the season gets here.

Hi Rhoda…thanks for the opportunity to win this decorating book. I just moved to Nashville from Seattle and bought a cute little cottage…the white look is perfect for it! This southern cottage style is so new to me, after living in the Northwest, so I can use all the help I can get. Your blog is my favorite and you are inspirational! Your “can do” attitude is so refreshing…I’m adding a screened porch this summer and reference yours regularly. Wish your dad was here…and you too! Blessings, Cheryl Ann

I love checking out decorating books from my public library and browsing through them. I am redecorating two bedrooms right now in white and painting my guest bath cabinet in white. I would love to glean new ideas from the Country Living book Decorating with White.
I have subscribed to and loved the Country Living magazine for many years.

Slowly adding white to my house and although I have a LONG way to go, it’s beginning to look awesome! Clean, light, airy, and with two boys and two dogs, I need all the clean-looking I can get! Would love to have the book for ideas!

Hello, Rhoda. As with most of your readers, I do love to read decorating books and dream about the things I could do in my home. I would love to have this book as I look forward to Country Living’s magazine every month but especially because I need help using more white successfully in my home – my attempts lacked warmth and personality. By the way, and unrelated to this giveaway, your blog is one of a handful I follow – and one of the best for those of us who need to decorate on a budget. Thanks for sharing your creativity.

Oh. Wow. A decorating book devoted to my favorite color, white! My husband says I’m a “white-aholic.” Whatever. It’s the one color (or non-color, as some people claim) that goes with everything, never goes out of style and more importantly, I never, ever get tired of it. I wear it, I drive a white car, and of course, I chose white in my decorating every chance I get. Once, when we were doing a bathroom addition/remodel and I was picking white for everything–tile, vanity, countertop, etc., the contractor asked me, “Are you a nurse?” Haha. No, I just love white! And I would love to win this book! But since I’ve never won anything in my life, I can see I will probably be making a trip to the bookstore for this one! 🙂

Great giveaway. I like all decorating books bc I love to look at the pictures showing good design. I especially like white and green or aqua. Would be interested in seeing the collections they feature, especially dishes.
