Country Living: Decorating With White

{Giveaway is Closed}

The winner is Brenda with Simple Pleasures!  Congrats, Brenda, you’ve been emailed!

Country Living has been very generous with me, sharing their new books and letting me give ONE away to a reader as well.  We all love decorating books and this is another one that is beautiful and inspiring.  Especially if you happen to like the trend of decorating with white.  But, even if you don’t there’s still plenty of color to be found in this book, so don’t let the title fool you.  Stark white and nothing else would be a little bit difficult to live with. I love color, but I also love white backgrounds and this book has some great ideas for using white and mixing it all up with patterns and textures to create a lovely home.

Decorating with White

The description on the back says:

A room dressed in white may be romantic, rustic, traditional, or contemporary, but it will never be dated.  White is simply timeless.  Through a wealth of photographs, ideas, and tips, you’ll see how easy it is to bring a white palette into any room to create fresh, comfortable spaces filled with character and warmth.

page 1

And again, the book is definitely not all about white, but gives many ideas on layering it all with color and collections.

Page 2

You’ll get plenty of ideas and inspiration from the beautiful pics on every page.

Page 3

Blue and white, a fave for many decorators for years.

Page 4

Collections are another part of the book.  I don’t have room in my house for collections this big, but they sure are prettily displayed.

Page 5

If you enjoy farmhouse style and new country decorating, you’ll love this book and will be excited to have it in your collection.

If you’d like to win a copy of the book, all you have to do is leave a comment, again telling me why you like decorating books and what you’d like to take away from this one.

I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

Christmas in July!  Is it too early to think about Christmas?  Probably so, it’s really hard to think about it with heat and humidity going on, but here are a couple things to keep in mind WHEN you get ready to start thinking about Christmas this year:

Christmas in the window

I like to do small vignettes around the house, with bits and pieces of Christmas cheer, like in the window of my kitchen.

Adding Christmas dishes is a fun way to get in the festive mood for welcoming guests to your home.  I can’t quite think about it yet, but it will be fun once again when the season arrives.

One of my sponsors,  Payless Decor is having a Christmas in July sale this week and I wanted to tell you about it.  All of the beautiful blinds in my home came from Payless Decor and I have loved them, they make my windows!

Here’s the code if you want to check out the sale:  SH10XMAS713 for 10% off anything over $100. thru 7/25.

We are redoing our 1971 casita / ranch and I love to get inspiration from lots of places. Books are nice because they give such a deep exploration of a decorating theme. Our living room needs a re-think; after we get a new gray couch I think we need to tweak colors and a white palette is very appealing.

I enjoy looking and reading about decorating.
I like the ideas you gain…and then being a creative person, you take off and run…most always coming up with “your” version. I too would love to win this book…

I’ve only recently started to collect some decorating books. I find much inspiration in blogland, but love having books to thumb through. I also plan to gift a few great books to my newlywed daughter.

After a 22 yr marriage my husband left, and I am in the middle of turning my modest home into MY home. I love decorating and I love decorating books. They bring me such joy, getting lost in them while I am lounging on my sofa, under a throw, with a cup of coffee. I would love to add a copy of this delicious book to my collection. Who knows what ideas it may give me as I am creating a home just for me?

I love white and especially how it pops color. I love the crispness and cleanness of it and its my favorite decorating style to admire, study and aspire to in my own home. I’d love to win this. Thanks for the chance.

I love decorating books as most of them have timeless ideas for adapting to freshen and update one’s home. Who doesn’t need a little inspiration at times?

I love Country Living magazine. The definition of country decorating has really changed over the past ten years and now means comfort and ease. I would like this book because my home is decorated in blue and white. Years ago my mother gave me a blue spongeware pitcher that belonged to my great-grandmothers and suggested I do my kitchen in blue and white. I’ve been decorating that way ever since.

I love decorating books & mags because I can take all the ideas bouncing around in my head, put them with suggestions, tips, and so on in the articles, book, and voila, great decorating ensues. From this book I’d like to learn a lot more about white. I’ve always been leery of it as I raised 4 kids on a horse farm, but they’re grown & gone, so now is the time!

White…on a scorching day like this nothing but white feels so cool, so clean, so refreshing! I would love to have a copy of this book just so I can expand my love of the color white and relax my worries about what one “he who mindlessly tracks things into the house” can do to a white room. White is easy to launder, bleach or keep clean and crisp much better than things with even slight color. Thank you for describing this book so well and for giving me the chance to have it in my newly designed white space!

I love decorating books now more than ever. Regular magazines can be so full of ads, but decorating books are filled with beautiful pictures that draw you in. I hope to gain more confidence when decorating using all whites. While I LOVE it in books, I don’t feel like I can pull it off. Thanks!

I have read your blog for a few weeks now and thoroughly enjoy reading about all your adventures in decorating. Although I have never left a comment, your stories and pictures are always great! I love your generous and gracious nature. I love how you value the closeness of your family and friends. I would love to learn more about decorating with white and lighter colors.

There’s so much to learn from decorating books but at times I just like to look at the pretty pictures. I’m still trying to decorate our first (and most likely, only) home so I’m always on the lookout for inspiration…

I have just read through all the comments, I don’t know how on earth you are going to pick. Everyone is so deserving of this awesome book. I have one of the original white decorating books from Hearst books. “Victoria At Home With White”. Do you have this one? It is from 1996. I loved this book so much and having a new updated version of decorating with white would be amazing. By the way, I have saved every Feature Friday and look so forward to it every week. Thanks for all they great tips.
