Country Living: Decorating With White

{Giveaway is Closed}

The winner is Brenda with Simple Pleasures!  Congrats, Brenda, you’ve been emailed!

Country Living has been very generous with me, sharing their new books and letting me give ONE away to a reader as well.  We all love decorating books and this is another one that is beautiful and inspiring.  Especially if you happen to like the trend of decorating with white.  But, even if you don’t there’s still plenty of color to be found in this book, so don’t let the title fool you.  Stark white and nothing else would be a little bit difficult to live with. I love color, but I also love white backgrounds and this book has some great ideas for using white and mixing it all up with patterns and textures to create a lovely home.

Decorating with White

The description on the back says:

A room dressed in white may be romantic, rustic, traditional, or contemporary, but it will never be dated.  White is simply timeless.  Through a wealth of photographs, ideas, and tips, you’ll see how easy it is to bring a white palette into any room to create fresh, comfortable spaces filled with character and warmth.

page 1

And again, the book is definitely not all about white, but gives many ideas on layering it all with color and collections.

Page 2

You’ll get plenty of ideas and inspiration from the beautiful pics on every page.

Page 3

Blue and white, a fave for many decorators for years.

Page 4

Collections are another part of the book.  I don’t have room in my house for collections this big, but they sure are prettily displayed.

Page 5

If you enjoy farmhouse style and new country decorating, you’ll love this book and will be excited to have it in your collection.

If you’d like to win a copy of the book, all you have to do is leave a comment, again telling me why you like decorating books and what you’d like to take away from this one.

I’ll choose a winner in a few days!

Christmas in July!  Is it too early to think about Christmas?  Probably so, it’s really hard to think about it with heat and humidity going on, but here are a couple things to keep in mind WHEN you get ready to start thinking about Christmas this year:

Christmas in the window

I like to do small vignettes around the house, with bits and pieces of Christmas cheer, like in the window of my kitchen.

Adding Christmas dishes is a fun way to get in the festive mood for welcoming guests to your home.  I can’t quite think about it yet, but it will be fun once again when the season arrives.

One of my sponsors,  Payless Decor is having a Christmas in July sale this week and I wanted to tell you about it.  All of the beautiful blinds in my home came from Payless Decor and I have loved them, they make my windows!

Here’s the code if you want to check out the sale:  SH10XMAS713 for 10% off anything over $100. thru 7/25.

I love decorating books because they are a constant source of inspiration and challenge. I look at them over and over again and always find something new in them – kind of like how every time I read the Bible I find something in there that I had never read before!

What a great decorating book! I’d love to sit down with it on my white couch with a glass of wine and look at all the gorgeous pictures! Love white and love to decorate with it!

There’s something so restful about white, but I think it’s hard to pull off decorating with it without making a room look stark. I’m sure this book has lots of solutions for that. I love decorating books because they help me find and make beauty in my home. Thanks for the giveaway!

Thanks for the opportunity to win this book. I love Country Living and their style of decorating so this book is right up my alley. I think decorating with white is a challenge and would like to learn how to keep it from looking too washed out. Hopefully this book can help.

I love Country Living magazine and have subscribed for many years. I give away other magazines to ensure storage space for my CL magazines and frequently look through the old issues for inspiration. Thanks, Rhoda, for the chance to win this book. It would look great on my coffee table!!

I LOVE decorating books for all the ideas I glean, and since I have not one ‘decorator gene’ in my body, I’d love a book to show the way! PS) The cover of this one is LOVELY! ♥

I would really like to own this book — just your pictures have given me some ideas about what to do with my mother’s milk glass — I have a ton which I inherited and had no idea what to do with it. The white room with white accessories seem wide open and not cluttered if you know what I mean. Please pick me — because I have way too much of my mother’s stuff and hate to just get rid of it because it is pretty. (AND I love Country Living books too!)

My ALL time favorite is “white” decorating! One December I went on a home tour at Christmastime and one of the homeowners had a bedroom decorated in all white!! It was so beautiful it made me cry, literally! 🙂 My friend who was with me said, stop that Carol! I told her “I can’t, because it is just heavenly”!! I get lost in decorating books (wishing I were in the room at the time I look at the pictures) – the bigger the book the better! I get inspired and learn lots of decorating tips and tricks from the beautiful homes featured in them! I even look for them and buy them at garage sales, estate sales and antique shops. My most enjoyable pastime in life!! Thanks for another great book. Can’t wait to have it in my library so I can get lost in it!! 🙂

I have been following your journey since I retired as a school library/media specialist. I admire your attitude, work ethic and style. My 30-year career centered around my love for books. I especially enjoy decorating and gardening books since my retirement. I have been remodeling my white kitchen for a year now and I know this new book from Country Living would provide ongoing inspiration for my project.

I love the inspiration you get from decorating books that you can build and dream on. I spied the green shelves way up high in one picture and a library ladder to reach the shelves…how unique!

This is why I am so glad I chose white subway tile for our kitchen. It’s timeless! Paint colors and accessories can easily be changed but its best to pick something classic and timeless for more permanent fixtures in the house. http://www.colortransformedfamily.com/2013/06/14/kitchen-cabinet-reveal/
