Dana’s Family Room

One of my readers, Dana recently hired me to do a consultation on her family room, so I got busy and came up with a plan that I hoped she would like.

FamilyRoom001 this …

She mentioned that they really wanted to get a sectional to fit their space and get rid of the current furniture in here, to better utilize the function of this area.  Since this room is fairly small, I think a sectional is a good solution to this dilemma and will create a lot of seating for TV viewing.  She said they were getting rid of the small bookshelf to the right of the fireplace, which I thought would be perfect for a small armoire for storage. Their current furniture layout could definitely be improved upon.  FamilyRoom002

As well as the drapes in here.  I suggested simple panels, hung to the ceiling and brought out from the windows for maximum light and window height.  I also suggested some bamboo blinds to really take it up a notch.  FamilyRoom006
Bringing in an area rug over the carpet will ground the seating area too.

Dana sent me this inspiration pic that she had found for a sectional idea, so I used that somewhat as a guide.

And I came up with this plan, which Dana loved.  I hope she will use these ideas to create the room of her dreams.  Adding some color in the rug, pillows and artwork will really pull the room together.  I gave her a couple of suggestions on panels that could work in here.

So, Dana, I hope you’ll share your finished room with us when you get it completed.

If you’d like to get a room consultation of your own, click here for all the details!  I love doing these Inspiration boards and it’s a great way to get some ideas to take your room in a new direction.

FYI:  These consultations are done entirely online with the client sending me pics by email and then we email back and forth with me getting a good idea of what they are looking for and the direction they wish to move.  And we’ve had many successes with them and I think, some very happy clients.  One of my online clients is working with me all the way through her entire house and I’ve really enjoyed that!

Beautiful…I hope she will share her “finished” look with us, too! Great job, Rhoda, what an improvement on her overall look! That’s amazing that you can do that online from photos…or, did you also see the room in person? Anyway, great ideas! Beth

I love it! I hope she shares her finished room. You did a great job giving the room a more modern and clean look. I would add one suggestion (which I’m sure you did) — hide the TV somehow! 🙂 I hate electronics!

Wonderful and creative ideas, Rhoda. I adore bamboo blinds. They give a less shrouded feeling and open up a room. I also like the idea of the armoire! Dana will love this room when she is finished!

Thanks again Rhoda! We are still working on it…taking us a while due to being so busy with other things on the weekends…and I will be sure to share once we are finished! We can’t wait for it all to be done!

Oh, my! Looking at Dana’s room is almost exactly like looking at MY family room. We have higher ceilings and our ‘window wall’ has more windows, but we have the very same furniture pieces and we have the same placement! I would love to see what Dana’s room transformation looks like when you and Dana are finished with it. I bet it will look absolutely amazing!

Thanks for sharing your incredible talent with us once again!
