This year, I kept it pretty sweet and simple in the dining room. I love the natural, neutral feel and it’s just enough festivity.
I added one of my urns with sticks and feathers in here as well as another urn with preserved greens on the other side of the buffet. My pinecones that were collected a couple of years ago came in handy, as well as all the acorns and nuts that I painted silver and gold a few years ago. These things last indefinitely and they’ve been stored in the attic in a box.I simply filled up a glass vase with my goodies and topped it with my huge cloche. Different shapes of pinecones make it interesting and painting some white mixes it up too. This Fitz and Floyd Christmas bowl gets filled with some baubles and natural things and that’s it. Simple! On the right side, I just plopped some fresh greens cut from our nearby woods in my yardsale white vases. And that’s it, pinecones, acorns, and greenery and you’ve got some Christmas going on.I picked up the antlers in Marietta and it’s made into a candle holder. Mixes right in with a natural Christmas. In one of my soup tureens, I added a faux rustic Christmas tree from Hobby Lobby that I found in the sales a couple years ago. These pretty grapevine-ish glittery stars are so pretty tied on the chandelier with some bronze ribbon. I’ve had these stars for many years and still love them.Simple, this didn’t take long to put together.I added a little fresh cedar on the shelves. We actually do eat in here occasionally, as evidenced by this table setting. Found these bird plates at TJ Maxx and love them. Enough for 4 people, we had another couple, friends of ours over for dinner recently and enjoyed the ambience in the dining room. These plates can be used for many occasions. Love the colors.Dining room is decked out for the Holiday and it didn’t take a lot of work. Every year, I always say I’m going to do more fresh greens, but somehow never spend the money on it, when I’ve already got lots of faux. One day, maybe!
Merry Christmas and I hope you are enjoying your Holiday season so far!
Because this is technically a tablescape post, I’m joining Susan’s Tablescape Thursday, Christmas edition.

Beautiful and elegant in it’s simplicity – I really like all the natural elements especially. I’m afraid my diningroom is rather sparsely decorated this year but I hope to get it a little more festive when I set the table for dinner. Merry Christmas!

Hello, Rhoda!
Wow! So elegant and inviting! I especially love the painted nuts. So, easy and cheap, eh? Ops.. sorry.. I can’t stop laughing at my comment! LOL Sorry… lol I can be silly sometimes. LOL But, seriously. This is grogeous. I love your idea and yes, I also use more “faux” decor. Maybe I shouldn’t but it’s already there, besides, this year I got a real Christmas tree and there were million of little bugs and spiders. Did I mention I freak out every time I see a bug? lol So, we had to bring our faux Christmas tree and say “adios” to the real one…. 🙂
NOTE: If you are not too busy, make sure to see my post today, Rhoda. I’ve made a “Thank you” note to my blogging friends and readers.
Have a wonderful week!

So pretty Rhoda. I love the natural feel in there. Can I come over for dinner and eat in there too? 🙂

Live greenery has many positives, but one negative is trying to use it on a fireplace mantle. The heat from a fire (or even no fire for that matter) can cause quite a sticky mess if you’ve not prepared for it. Learned that lesson the hard way. Your dining room looks ‘delicious’ – no pun intended! Love your web page/blog.

Hi Rhoda, How lovely your dining room is. The simplicity is really appealing to me right now as we wind down to the big day. Blog land has been full of big inspiration, but the simplicity in this is just so peaceful and warm. I adore the calm prettiness of it. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Rhoda!

Dear Rhoda,
All of your Christmas decorating looks beautiful — understated and sophisticated. The neutral colors are very calming. I never saw a pine cone like the ones you have displayed that resemble roses. Are they native to your neck of the woods?

I love how natural, simple and beautiful your decorations are. Your dinning room has a very classy feel to it.

Very unusual for you Rhonda – there is nothing Christmas-y about it (except the Santa bowl.) If I only saw these photos I would not know that this was christmas decorating, even with stars hanging from the chandy and pinecones. It actually looks very fall-ish to me. And the antlers? Eeeww! Just sayin’…
Rhoda says
Susie, that’s OK, you don’t have to like it. I personally love how it feels and it does indeed feel Christmasy to me. And that’s what counts, really! And I love the antlers for a little something different.

Susie,
Although we’re entitled to our opinions our words are powerful and no one benefits from rudeness. Her name is Rhoda by the way and you are a guest in her blog home. I would recommend that if you don’t like a blogger’s decor you just keep that to yourself.

Rhoda, I love it! I’m not much one for overt themes in holiday decorating. I’m with you in that one does not need to sprinkle snowmen and Santas all over. I like things from the yard to represent the season! And I think the antlers are super cool!

Rhoda,
I just love the tranquil, earthy decor you have created in your dining room. It is so very inviting. I would be honored to dine at your table.
The mirror with the intricate detail is fabulous. I also really like the stars hanging from the light.
Now, if you could just “send” some creativity to me…so I can do justice to my 1920s gem. (wink, wink)

my favorite colors – white, natural and a little bit of green. Just beautiful. Whose to say it’s not Christmas? What an odd thought – that Christmas has to be a certain way? Some friends and I were just talking about how God is working on our hearts this year, more than our decorating and we were wanting to keep some things natural. What a beautiful testament to keeping the meaning pure and natural. You have that beautiful entry way with the happy and joy of WELCOME TO MY HOME! and then the calm, soothing spirit of Christmas to dine by. I love it so much! I always love your style… Merry Christmas to you and yours! Thank you for the effort you put into your blog and allowing us to see your beautiful, creative work!
