Last weekend, I was home with my parents hanging out for a few days and decided to spend the night with one of my old friends, Vicki. We have been friends since high school, so we go way back. She is like a sister to me. She and her hubby live on a small mountain in North Cobb County, GA (they are actually just over the line in Paulding County) and when they moved out there over 20 years ago, it was way out in the country and away from it all.
Not any more. The hustle and bustle have slowly creeped out their way too, but when you are on their little mountain, it’s still just like being in the North Georgia or North Carolina mountains. Her hubby went out to walk the dog that evening, just before dusk and this is what he saw. He called us out to look and I grabbed my camera to capture the beauty. I think there were 5 total out there grazing on the grass, sunlight dappling in on them and making for a beautiful sight. They said this is a normal occurrence in their backyard.
They were eating dinner, not too concerned about the people watching from a distance.
This one would pop her head up and watch me taking pics.
Then all back to eating again.
Not a lot of concern at all with the humans. They are beautiful creatures.
Just doing what comes naturally.
With sweet little white tails. How cute is this?Â
Once this cute girl, Dixie, was allowed to start her walk, they all went running down the hill, but it was fun to watch them for a few minutes.
It reminded me how peaceful and serene God’s nature really is if we stop and take a look occasionally.
You can’t experience all of this inside the house! Do you live in an area where the deer come up and eat dinner?
I know I’ve heard many homeowners complain about them eating shrubs and flowers, but Vicki and her hubs don’t have to worry about that on their mountain.
Just love to watch those wonderful creatures and never could understand hunting and shooting them. I do understand the need to eat however, and know people put food on their families plates by doing so.
Loved you photos…beautiful!!
We have them all the time on the empty lot next to us and actually thorough out our neighborhood. Sometimes when we ride our bikes we spot 2-3 of them grazing and they are not afraid of us AT ALL. Miss Daisy doesn’t even bark at them when she sees them when we are on the golf cart, but she sure stares. LOL
Hugs,
Kat
They are gorgeous! We get tons of deer in our yard. Our house backs to the woods, so we’ve had as many as 12 at a time back there. I’ve even seen turkeys!
Dixie is a beautiful dog!
These are beautiful photos Rhoda…you are an expert with your new camera! We have deer in our neighborhood and we have wooded areas all around us and they are so beautiful to watch!
I went to Scotts in Atlanta Saturday and what an experience it was!! I thought I had died and gone to heaven! The prices weren’t cheap on alot of things, but there were GREAT booths and unbelievable ideas! We couldn’t even cover it all there was so much! Met up with a fellow blogger Sherry Hart, a designer in Atlanta who has the blog Design Indulgence! She is a doll with impeccable taste!
You have probably been to Scotts, but if you haven’t it is so worth going!
Hope you are getting snow and not ice tonight! It is completely white here already….stay warm…

Rhoda, these images are amazing! Did I see from the comments that you got a new camera? Wow, just gorgeous. What a nice get away from the everyday, this visit looks like. And the dog is too beautiful for words!
Hey, Carol, I got my Canon T1i last summer, still learning how to use it well.
Great photos but don’t be deceived, they can reek havoc on a yard. We live in the country, no overdevelopment here, and they still eat everything in sight including things that deer aren’t supposed to like such as magnolias! In our area, they do thousands of dollars worth of damage to automobiles every year. We recently had a Christmas party at our home and as one of our guests was leaving, a cute deer that was running along beside his car just suddenly decided to run into the side of the car! Unfortunately, this involved a trip to the body shop too. We always warn our friends to drive slowly and watch for deer.
Pat, you are so right, that’s why I mentioned homeowners complaints & how they trash a yard. We have a fence here, so don’t have a big problem with them, but I do have a small dent in the hood of my car from hitting one on a dark road a couple of years ago. I think the deer was fine, it was a glancing blow & he kept running, but you really cannot see them until it’s too late.
I grew up in an area where there was always lots of deer. Now every time I visit my parents we have to be careful because we never know when they will run out in front of us! They are beautiful to watch.
Deer are so beautiful and so much fun to watch! We had deer in our yard when we lived in Oregon. I especially enjoyed seeing the babies each year. I remember one time a doe sailed over the rail fence between our house and the neighbors. The fawn following her Mom considered jumping over the fence then thought better of the idea and crawled under. So cute!
It always amazes me how deer are everywhere! My daughter lives in busy Durham , NC and they come often to her back yard. There are deer here where I live that come right up to the hospital (not that I live at the hospital!! just near one!) God’s creation is mind blowing when we look, see , listen, and think about it!
Hello, Rhoda!
So cute!!! I was smiling as I was seeing these pictures. Thank you for that! 🙂
And what a gorgeous dog! My goodness!

Yes, we have TONS of deer in our yard every day. They are beautiful, but limit what we can plant. We are addressing our landscaping this Spring and are very stressed about it because of the deer, but fencing ourselves in (and them out) is not going to be an option, so we’ll do our best. We enjoy sitting in our living room and watching them graze outside.
Rhoda,
We do have a lot of deer in this area and they always brings me awe and admiration!!
I do have A Great New Giveaway from Blydesign!Come and enter!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures. Deer never fail to catch my attention in real life or in pictures.
We live in North Cobb County as well and love seeing the deer around here. We have 5 inches of snow on the ground at the moment – which is quite a beautiful sight!
Hey Rhoda, those are some lovely pics of deer. I wish I lived out in the country again. We moved into town about 4 years ago and I miss the tranquility, that only living out in God’s country, can give you. Love the conveniences of town, but it sure doesn’t offer much in the way of nature, except for the occasional squirrel. (or skunk, and I can do without that part! lol)
Hugs

We have a farm field behind us so we used to get quite a few on a daily basis. The town put a bike path on the other side of the field last year and I haven’t seen one since. I miss them.
Beautiful photos! The deer in the woods behind our house like to dine right outside my kitchen window! My daughter and I were just watching them the other day. Ours don’t look quite as robust yours though!
Gosh, I wish we had some deer, but we’re still in a relatively urban section of the city. However, there are small stretches of thicket in our neighborhood that give habitat to plenty of skunks, raccoons, rabbits and grey fox. We only catch glimpses of them from time to time. The real treat for us is the habitat we can provide to birds and squirrels in our backyard by providing birdbaths and lots of feeders. Keeps us entertained since we love watching the pretty birds and funny squirrels. 🙂
Gorgeous pictures, Rhoda. Thanks so much for sharing them!
Rhoda, I’m amazed that they felt so safe with it being deer season! Fabulous pictures… my mother-in-law actually throws some corn just outside of her open iron fence (she lives on a golf course). Over the last few months, she’s gotten more and more deer to come feed there. They leave all of the shrubs, etc alone but come for the corn. She loves to sit and watch them from her breakfast room or back patio.
