Drive By Homes in Buckhead

Happy Valentines Day!  Hope you are having romantic day with your sweetie.  I sure am!

There are no shortage of beautiful older homes in Atlanta, GA.   I did not grow up inside the perimeter where many of these homes are located, but I sure have drooled over them during my years of living here. Driving up and down West Paces Ferry Road was always so enjoyable for me growing up.  I could only imagine who might live in those big beautiful houses that looked like something out of the movies.

I still get a thrill out of older architecturally beautiful homes and even though I will probably never live in anything close to this, it’s just nice to enjoy the true beauty of these stunners.

Recently as I was driving through and around the Peachtree Battle area, a very desirable neighborhood in Buckhead, I managed to capture a few homes with my big camera to share with you, so enjoy the tour!  Thankfully, the traffic was light that day and I could slow down and gawk.  I hope the homeowners don’t mind me sharing their beautiful homes with you.

The homes in these older in-town neighborhoods are varied and unique and they don’t look like every other home.  That’s what I love! They are each uniquely classic.

I’m so partial to white houses and black shutters and the classic lines of this one just pull me in.

I love this one too, with the painted cream brick and dark roof.

There are even a few modern residences around town.

Adore this cottage looking home.

And this one.  So much to love about these homes.

Did you enjoy that tour of some beautiful homes in Atlanta?  We truly do have a wonderful city full of gorgeous older homes and I’m thankful that Atlanta is such a green space with lots of trees still left this close to the city.

    Hi Rhoda,
I know this post is a few days old, but hoped to get your (and others) opinions. I live in an older home very similar to the cottage style, painted brick homes in your post. I love our house, but struggle sometimes with how to decorate it. I know everyone says go with what you love when decorating/furnishing your home, and I love so many of the trends I see everywhere in home decor, but I feel as if homes like these sort of demand the decor to match the style of the house. What do you think about this? Do you always go with what you love, or should you let your house dictate what looks best?
Always love your blog, you’ve been my fave for a long time!

HI, Dionne, thank you so much! If you live in a style home similar to some of these, you’re very fortunate. What fun that must be. Honestly, I would decorate it the way that feels comfortable to you. I love a mix of old and new, so I wouldn’t ever decorate completely period in any home. I love the mix of modern and vintage pieces. That’s a fresh look to me. I’m sure you have things you love, but if things are feeling dated, then maybe add some freshness with more modern fabrics, rugs and lamps. That can make a huge difference and keep a room and home from feeling stuffy and old fashioned. I hope that helps a bit. There are so many inspirations online for how to decorate a house, so it does sometimes get difficult to figure out. But, to me classic and timeless, mixed with a little modern and vintage is a really good thing.

Hi Rhoda! I think this should become a regular feature on your blog…. “My Sunday Drive”. Each feature could include pictures of the lovely homes along the street or neighborhood you visit. All of us that do not live in Atlanta, but LOVE the homes of Atlanta, would be thrilled to have the opportunity to see these homes via your blog. Please consider! 😉 ….I believe I recognize the taupe house with black shutters (12th pic down) from a Southern Living before/after feature several years ago…it’s lovely inside and out!http://www.southernliving.com/home-garden/decorating/home-exteriors/cape-cod-style-cottage-home-exterior?iid=sr-link4

Wow, Wendy, good eye! That’s definitely the same house. Looks like it might have had another paint job and it’s such a cute place. I could only hope to live in as charming a home as some of these. Atlanta is full of charming neighborhoods, so I’ll definitely try to do more features like this. Thanks for chiming in!
