Happy Valentines Day! Hope you are having romantic day with your sweetie. I sure am!
There are no shortage of beautiful older homes in Atlanta, GA. I did not grow up inside the perimeter where many of these homes are located, but I sure have drooled over them during my years of living here. Driving up and down West Paces Ferry Road was always so enjoyable for me growing up. I could only imagine who might live in those big beautiful houses that looked like something out of the movies.
I still get a thrill out of older architecturally beautiful homes and even though I will probably never live in anything close to this, it’s just nice to enjoy the true beauty of these stunners.
Recently as I was driving through and around the Peachtree Battle area, a very desirable neighborhood in Buckhead, I managed to capture a few homes with my big camera to share with you, so enjoy the tour! Thankfully, the traffic was light that day and I could slow down and gawk. I hope the homeowners don’t mind me sharing their beautiful homes with you.
The homes in these older in-town neighborhoods are varied and unique and they don’t look like every other home. That’s what I love! They are each uniquely classic.
I’m so partial to white houses and black shutters and the classic lines of this one just pull me in.
I love this one too, with the painted cream brick and dark roof.
There are even a few modern residences around town.
Adore this cottage looking home.
And this one. So much to love about these homes.
Did you enjoy that tour of some beautiful homes in Atlanta? We truly do have a wonderful city full of gorgeous older homes and I’m thankful that Atlanta is such a green space with lots of trees still left this close to the city.

Wow – those are lovely! I’m from Austin, living in Houston – the deep south is a bit different, culturally, but it’s always been interesting to me how many of the “heart” neighborhoods in the south (including the Gulf Coast and the near Southwest) are so similar. You could drop any of those houses into any of the neighborhoods I’m familiar with and they would fit right in.

I have always loved the homes on Peachtree Battle. There are a lot of beautiful homes in that area of Atlanta.

I have enjoyed looking at the houses of Atlanta. It made me remember you are helping Andrea with some updating. How is that coming along. I am looking forward to seeing more of her updates.
Rhoda says
HI, Lou, they are a little behind. David has some back issues and Andrea broke her wrist recently, so they aren’t moving along as fast as we’d like. I’ll be checking in with them this week to see what’s happening.

I really enjoyed seeing these homes. The different architectural styles make it interesting.

Beautful homes. We have many similar homes near us in Yorktown and Newport News, Va. I love the cottage style home the best. Now that we are empty nesters I don’t dream of the bigger homes. I like the character of the painted cream home the best. When I visit Atlanta again I will be sure to drive by Buckhead. Anne Rivers Siddons book, Peachtree Road always made me interested in seeing this area. Thanks for sharing.

Love these old homes…so beautiful! I especially like the cottage style. Hope you had a great Valentine’s Day!

I’ve always loved such areas of cities. Newer houses -no matter how big or expensive- can’t ever seem to capture the sense of solidity, permanence, and gentility that these older residences exude.

Thank you for the beautiful pictures, Rhoda. You made me miss the city I’ve come to love while I lived there. As big and sprawling as the area is, the heart and core of Atlanta in many ways has endured progress. Hopefully, they will be there for years to come.

I had wondered the same about Andrea and Dave’s project too. Life has a way of getting in the way of our plans sometimes. Hope they both have speedy recoveries.
Growing up in Charleston, my parents would load us kids into our gigantic tank of a Buick every Sunday afternoon for “a drive” … translation, my mother wanted to look at houses! I learned my lesson well because it is still one of my favorite things to do. Loved today’s drive!

Loved your selection. They all have great curb appeal. The painted cream brick with the dark roof ticked all the boxes for me. I live in a Tudor revival brick and appreciate the charm of the 1920s houses and it looks like many of the houses in your personal tour were built in that era.
I haven’t driven around house dreaming for quite some time. Good weekend idea with my honey…

Such beautiful stately homes.

Thanks for the tour! Such beautiful homes.

So enjoyed this post! My favorite was the brick red Georgian with the black shutters and the lamp post. The red brick walkway leading to the front porch says “come right in”.

Gorgeous homes. There were similar houses surrounding the park where I sat and read for a while today. A girl can dream, right?

Thanks for the tour, Rhoda. I always love doing that. For the most part, the “Sunday drive” is an activity from the old days. I miss that.

Living in north Georgia, I love to be in Atlanta during dogwood festival. This drive is beautiful . My favorite is the painted brick. Some don’t care for painted brick, but I love the look. Hope you had a great Valentines.
