Falling for Fabric

Back from a sweet weekend with my parents in Atlanta, it’s always fun to go home and be the baby of the family again.  OK, so I’m way too old to be a baby, but that doesn’t stop my parents from pretending I am. 🙂  I went with them to their church’s Thanksgiving dinner Sunday night.  It was a good visit, I have the best parents in the world.

My sister and I had some fun shopping time, browsing a few antique malls (I’ll be back with some of those pics later this week) and my favorite fabric store, Fabric and Fringe Warehouse.  We popped in there and I was hoping to get inspired by a fabric, since I’m really thinking about changing out the toile drapes in my dining room for something a little newer and fresher.  Love the toile but need a change after 9 yrs. and I think I found it!

This is a Robert Allen fabric called  Basquiat in Teak and it’s only $12 a yard.  Perfect!  These colors of cream, gray, gold, brown and green are so yummy and will keep the room neutral, yet bring in a fresh look and even a bit of green from the kitchen.

I think I’m sold on it and will probably move forward with purchasing the fabric next month when I’m over there for Christmas.  My mom said she would even sew them for me since she’s inside more during the winter and it’s just straight seam sewing.  They will turn out so much better if she does it for me.

So, what do ya think? I think I’ve found my next fabric love.  I’ve seen florals making a big comeback, but not the romantic florals of years past.  These have a bit more of a modern edge and I’m liking them.

I think this is just gorgeous. It comes in a few colorways and every one of them is fantastic. What kind of header will you do? I can’t wait to see them up!

Great choice Rhoda! Classsic floral with today’s modern/retro edge and I love the green that pulls in the kitchen color.

I finally found the fabric for my kitchen that I’ve been looking for at the F&F web site. I was thrilled to find it!

    Hi Rhoda,
I haven’t commented on your blog for eons but I’ve faithfully been here reading and enjoying your blog as always. I just had to comment on your gorgeous toile drapes that I’ve always liked so much. As beautiful as they are, I agree with you, the Robert Allen fabric you’ve chosen would definitely look stunning in your dining room. Besides, it has just the right amount of that apple green color that you and I seem to like so much. TFS! Sheila

Well, Rhoda, let me be the first to tell you that if you are selling your toile drapes, I’d be interested! : )

I really like the new fabric and all these fabric updates you are doing. It is funny how to our parents we will always be “children”. My parents are the same way. I remember I used to hate it, but I’m kind of liking it now!

    Hi Rhoda-

This fabric will look stunning in your dining room. It will add such a subtle perfect punch. How nice of your mom to want to help you out. Having her make them for you will add another nice dimension to them – that they were made with lots of love especially for you.
    My best- Diane

Oh my… Whenever the time rolls around for me to pick a fabric for a project, it takes me FOREVER to find one that I even remotely like. I can quickly discard all the ones I dislike, but have a hard time falling in love with one. This fabric is GORGEOUS! I love it! (And that’s saying a lot from indecisive me!) Definitely not a floral of years’ past…. Very updated with great colors. Is it something that can be ordered?

Hi, F&F are working on their website for orders, but I did find this fabric at a few other sites online, so just Google it to find it online. Joanns carries it too, but it’s a lot more $$. I’ll definitely be getting it from F&F when I get it.

I love the modern floral prints I’ve seen lately. And this one is so pretty. I think it will look great in your dining room.

    Hi ho ho Rhoda!
Now we know why you are the decorator, and I’m not! I would have passed that fabric right by…… but you saw the potential for POW!
revisited your dining room….( and drat… Kathie beat me to it… loove your mom’s handiwork) I”m a die hard traditionalist, and toile is my middle name…. BUT, you will make the dining room sing with this fabric…. while still looking classic, and up-to date. can’t wait to see how they turn out…. and BTW.. always enjoy mention of your Mom and family visits…. I’m homesick for mine… I’ll never stop missing her, but am warmed by every story you tell of your folks…. keep them close… they are special!
hope yours is a very Happy Thanksgiving!

Awww, thank you, Alice! My parents are such special folks & I treasure them. They were so happy I came over to see them, I must do it more often.

Rhoda, I can’t wait to see this fabric hanging in your Dining Room! 9 years is a long time to live with the same drapes and I’m right there with you! Maybe I will just live vicariously through you? 😉

Love the fabric Rhoda. Really pretty colors! Fabric and Fringe was my favorite place for fabric when I lived in Marietta. Sure do miss that store!

Fabric and Fringe Warehouse is one of my favorites– grab a Starbucks and spend the afternoon there! And their coupons (local Savvy Shopper) are the best when you have a project requiring their goodies!

    Hello Rhoda!

This is definetly a beautiful fabric! I love it. I would even love to see it on a ottoman, or chair. I think it’s feminine but not too “sweet”. Very well balanced.

Btw, that’s great you had fun with your parents. I miss that so much (mine are back in Brazil) and I think we all need to feel cared sometimes. I miss that feeling. 🙂

    Have a wonderful day,
