It’s no secret that I like to wear black and have plenty of it in my closet. It just works with so many things. Today’s top is another one from Glamour Farms and I really like this one and how flowy it looks with skinny jeans and booties. You can do a lot with this top, from adding a scarf to a necklace and bracelet to dress it up a little.
This is the Angela Button Tunic in Black and you can see it dips in the back and is shorter in the front.
To order from Glamour Farms for $10 off any regular priced item over $20, use code RHODA888, good through December 18th!
I love black with jeans and this one has buttons in a khaki color, so I added my neutral scarf with those colors in it for a bit more interest. My beige suede booties round out the look. Booties are no longer available, by American Eagle Outfitters. Here’s a page of booties from TJ Maxx (affiliate link).
I did wear socks with my booties this time and this was a date night outfit l last weekend. Bracelet from Accessory Concierge (affiliate link). Jeans are the ones I’ve showed many times before, Rock and Republic skinny jeans from Kohls.
Let’s talk about jeans for a minute. You may have noticed that ripped jeans are all the rage now, with the knees all ripped out and holes down the leg. Well, you won’t find me wearing them. I just don’t think they are that flattering a look on older women. Just my opinion, but something I’ve observed. I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard to be young, when I’m pushing 60, so that style is not something I’d be comfortable in. I’m not knocking anyone who wants to wear them, I’m just saying for me it’s not what I will be wearing or feel good in. I’d love to know your opinion on ripped jeans!
Another way to style a top like this is with a necklace. This one is neutral stones in a beige color that picks up the button and booties color.
A comfortable and casual look for my night out. I also took a jacket to wear since it is finally getting chilly at night.
You can see in my windows that I’m decorating for Christmas this week. I want to be all finished by Thanksgiving, so I can really enjoy the Holidays with my family and friends. I love this time of year and want to enjoy every minute of it.
Here’s a closer look at my accessories. Scarf probably came from TJ Maxx (affiliate link), necklace was a yardsale find and I don’t remember where I got the earrings. Watch is my wood Jord watch (affiliate link) that I love.
That’s it for this week! Thank you all as always for faithfully stopping by Fashion over 50!

I am 100% with you on the torn jeans! I am 61 and I would feel silly wearing them. I do dress in some trendy pieces, but stay in the “classic” mode usually. I ususally buy a few “new this season” pieces and mix/match with my dependable standards.

Love the black/denim/beige combo/ I always say I am not buying anymore black and seem to always come home with more black–but it is “just always right”–for any occasion. Oh, and I loved ripped jeans–for my 13 year old Granddaughter–not so much for me. LOL.

I’m with you on the overly torn jeans opinion. A ‘wisdom’ that I apply to lots of areas of life is, “Just because the ‘bait’ is dangled in front of you….doesn’t mean you have to bite.” I believe we have to know ourselves and our style and what we desire out of life so we won’t get swept up in all the “latest and greatest” trends swirling out in society ! That said, a pair of my jeans had a little natural torn fray going on (because I’ve had them so LONG!) at the back of the hem the other day, and my 22-year-old daughter told me I looked very current ! I had turned them up like you’re wearing yours, and had on my tan suede booties. I always tell her to let me know if I look matronly or elegantly my age…..which is almost 56 ! She approved, so I guess I looked ‘elegantly my age’……. heh, heh!!!!

Agree with you on the ripped jeans! Blows my mind some will pay so much money for them. Used to hate it when my knees would blow out on my Wranglers or Levi’s back in the 70’s. Love theses posts!

Hi Rhoda,
I hate torn jeans even on the younger crowd, so I am with you on that. It looks like they were purchased at Goodwill…. heehee. I like the top and accessories you have added and the boots. You look great as always! Thanks for sharing!
Judy Clark says
You look fabulous Rho! That black top is very pretty. Of course you know that I would not wear the torn jeans either. Some of these younger bloggers wear them and pay a hefty price. Good for them…just not for this 67 year old Grandmother. Blessings!

I agree with everyone on the torn jeans…I would never wear them. I do wear jeans a lot but rags are not stylish or elegant. 🙂
Jan says
Nope, torn jeans are not for me. Altho, that being said, I do have some rather thread bare old jeans that I wear for working in the garden or other yard work. There may also be a few paint splatters on them. I might be embarrassed if company surprised me and caught me wearing them but, hey, I can roll with it.
Roxanne says
No torn jeans for this 64 y.o.! They truly look ridiculous on everyone. Yesterday I saw two women my age-ish, one with blue hair and one with pink! Remember when we were all kids and used to laugh at little old ladies with blue hair?!? Rhoda, maybe sometime you could show us jacket and coat pairings for the longer tops that dip in back. Should you wear a coat that covers the top completely or let the tail hang out? Most of the time here in SC you don’t need a big coat. Are you getting smoke from the terrible wildfires like we are?
Rhoda says
Hey, Roxanne, I will do that. I wear jackets that are shorter and let the back of these low dipping tops hang out. I think it’s cute like that and I didn’t need a heavy coat with this yet, just a jacket. So I wore my shorter black jacket that I shared recently from Cabi (yardsale find).
Yes, on the smoke!! It’s terrible, I sure hope we get rain soon. I live near Kennesaw Mountain and yesterday it was completely covered with smoke, the sky was so hazy.

I don’t like torn jeans either & it’s always on younger ladies when I see it. I don’t think it’s very classy looking. Last week I was in the company of some young ladies in their early 20s.. This was at a very casual event & these girls were so pretty, dressed in jeans with no holes. Their hair was groomed nicely & they all had the nicest smiles. They were pretty & wholesome looking. That’s a good look that I would like to see more of.
Stacey Keeling says
Super cute top! I like the buttons.
I do like the look of a little bit of tearing on jeans but will not pay for it. Therefore, I’ve never had any. Now old, worn jeans…I’ve got those. They are stylish…right? 🙂
Rhoda says
Yep, old worn comfy jeans is another story. I have some with paint splatters and frayed that I wear for painting. But not for going out!
lynne says
I don’t care for the torn jeans on anyone, young or old. I just had to throw a pair of mine out that I used for working outside because they got too worn. I think it looks funny to see an older person wearing them and I have been seeing so many ladies around 60 trying to dress way too young. I prefer the classic look now. I do love your outfit today!
Robin says
I think the torn jeans look is just a trend, and will pass—so I’m not buying any. Rhoda, I LOVE your fashion posts, so keep them coming!
Kelly says
Another over 50 woman here agreeing with you about the torn jeans look! My 21 year old daughter wears them, but I do not. I’ve always followed the old adage that women over a certain age should wear dark wash jeans in a boot cut. I do have one pair of skinny jeans, but since I am not, I think the boot cut does look much better!
Margaret says
When we were young we would have been mortified to have to wear ragged clothes.
I can’t understand why anyone, young or old would want to wear the torn jeans.
Just my opinion..
Teresa says
I agree with you Rhoda on the torn jeans look for women over a certain age. While it might look hip on the younger generation, it just makes us look like we are trying “too hard”. I remember when faded jeans first came out and my Mom couldn’t understand why I wanted to pay big bucks to buy a pair of jeans already faded. So I guess I understand why ripped jeans are the rage now with the younger crowd.
P.S. Love that leopard bracelet…..I am going to order this as a Christmas gift for my best friend who adores anything leopard.
Joanna says
I don’t like the ripped jeans on anyone. It’s one trend I’m not following. I love a straight leg or skinny in black or dark wash. I think they look more appropriate for my age (62). I do love my jeans!
Lynly says
I will me the outlier here, so I’m bracing myself for the backlash. I love the frayed, torn and worn jeans look. In my opion and from what I can see from the style sites and magazines, the success of the look is all about the styling of it. I like the look best when other elements — top, shoes, makeup — are polished. And I believe any age can pull it off depending upon how current you are keeping the rest of yourself. Are you working out regularly and hard to keep your body muscular, strong and fit looking? Are you working regularly on your skin (takes more than most of us do) to keep it fresh, glowing and youthful Looking? Are you cracking open a fashion magazine seasonally to a least be knowledgable enough about trends to adapt to your look a little along the way? I see so many women in the age group here who just look frumpy. I don’t mean sloppy. I mean frumpy, and it’s kind of depressing. I saw a woman last week in the grocery store who was probably in her mid 60’s. She had wild slate grey hair and was dressed in slightly torn, worn jeans. She had on a simple v-neck white t-shirt, a leather jacket in cognac, a gold lariat style necklace and a great pair of point-toe flats. She looked gorgeous, fresh, current and completely pulled together. I want to be her when I’m that age. I want to be her now! If we start hemming ourselves in by rules about what women of a certain age group should or should not wear, we’re missing some fun and, whether we think so,or not, just letting ourselves get old in heart, soul and attitude if not looks.
Rhoda says
HI, Lynly, thank you for your thought filled comment. I do appreciate diversity of opinions. I’m not knocking anyone who is confident enough to wear torn jeans, it’s just not my style and not for me. It’s edgy and I see many older women pulling that look off and that’s fine for them. You are right, there are many over 60 in the frumpy category, which I don’t want to be in either. I want to be stylish and classic, but to me torn jeans are not classic. They are on the edge and a little bit out there. Again, my opinion and everyone is entitled to wear and do what they want!
Lynly says
Agree, Rhoda. The torn/worn look is a little edgier than it is classic. I understood your post. Sometimes I want to be classic, sometimes edgier, but lord save me from frumpy and old! That we are agreed on for sure. I was responding to a lot of what other commenters were saying with regard to “women of a certain age.” Appreciate your reply. Thanks.
Lisa B. says
Lynly,
I agree with you! I wear what I want. I’m 53, but don’t look or act my age. I own one pair of artfully distressed jeans and I actually wore them shopping Monday with a nice black t-shirt, a cardigan, large hoop earrings, and some Ugg type boots. I also wear dark boot-cut jeans with dressy shirts at times. It depends on my mood. I’m not trying to look like a twenty-something. I don’t dress provocatively and I always try to keep it classy. I say, wear what makes you feel good and hopefully look that way as well! Those are the rules I dress by!
Jennifer Griffin says
I love the shape of that top, you look darling, as usual!
Patti Osmus says
I’m with Lynly on this one. Love my ripped jeans, booties, longer sweaters, and statement jewelry! 58 and not frumpy!
Rhoda, you always look great. Style is whatever makes you feel beautiful!
