Fashion Over 50: Cropped Pants and Flats

I’m still recapping some of the outfits I wore on my New Orleans trip, so today I’ll be sharing flats and skinny crop pants.  We had some nice sunny days, so it was almost spring like several days we were out and it was nice to get out of the boots and into flats for a change.

spring outfit

I do love flats, do you?  I have several pairs of flats in my closet and these days, I am mostly staying with flats or lower heels.  This outfit is a combo of gray skinny jeans from Loft, a white cable knit short sleeved sweater from Target (Merona) that I picked up at Goodwill for $5 (looked brand new), and a turquoise cardigan from my C Wonder shopping spree. I still have a few more things to show you from that shopping spree and I am enjoying all the pieces I picked up so reasonably.

jewelry

Again, with my gold jewelry that I’m loving so much these days.

white sweater gray pants

That navy and white infinity scarf has been a great purchase too and I mix it with so many things.  Here’s a similar one I found online at Forever 21. gray jeans flats

Flats from BCBG in gray.  Similar skinny jeans from Old Navy. turquoise sweater

It was fun finding some rustic backdrops to take pics down in New Orleans and these were all taken in Covington.

Sweater:  C Wonder (here is a Similar cardigan, that looks pretty from Target)

cardigan and tan pants

On another outing, I paired the same turquoise cardigan with khaki skinny pants, also from C Wonder.  This time I wore one of my fave pairs of shoes, these Sam Edelman leopard sneakers.
I do think cropped pants look better if they are narrow and tapered. I don’t like them big a the bottom, but tapered is nice and neat.

khaki riding pants

These skinny cropped pants are fun to wear.  I remember back in the day when I wouldn’t be caught dead in short pants and had to search high and low for pants long enough. I’m tall and they were never long enough, but I’m really enjoying the cropped pants look all over again.  They were popular back in the 50’s (think Audrey Hepburn) and they look cute again now.  These days, most any pants length will work and you can wear flats or booties and it all sort of works.  I’m really happy that so many brands are now offering Talls/Longs too, that helps a lot for us taller gals.

Shoes:  Sam Edelman Becker leopard shoes (I paid $100 for mine a year ago) and this first link is a great deal. If the first link is sold out, here’s another link to them for less than I paid too at Lord & Taylor,  Sam Edelman Becker.  I have thoroughly enjoyed mine.

casual outfit

So, that’s a cropped pants and flats look that I enjoy wearing.  These pants have zippers on the ankles and have a riding pant look.

khaki pants and booties

Another way I wore these same pants from C Wonder was with my booties.  I wore my socks and booties with a J Crew blue and white striped long sleeved shirt.

Pants:  C Wonder, Similar pants from Gap / Shirt:  J Crew / Similar shirt / Leopard Belt: Similar / Booties: American Eagle Outfitters,  Similar booties

shirt and belt

I’ve had this leopard belt for a few years and it’s fun to mix it up with these textures and colors.

booties and socks

I’m really enjoying these khaki booties too.  Very fun look!

Do you  love flats too?  How are you mixing up the flats and pants?  Are you getting used to cropped pants now?  It took me awhile, but I’m liking them again.

Be sure and come back tomorrow!  I’ve got my very first fashion giveaway for you all and I think you will love the products!!

Note:  This post contains affiliate links for similar items shown.  If you purchase through my links, it doesn’t cost a penny extra, but I receive a commission.  I’m adding links to either the same clothes I’m wearing or similar, to give you a chance to find a similar look for yourself and I will only link to clothes I think are a decent deal.

You are so cute and look great in everything! I’m 68 , got more than my share of “junk” but still like to look fashionable. You have given me good ideas. I thoroughly enjoy your blog, love hearing about your shopping places , seeing your treasures and hearing about your parents. You are a lucky lady to get to spend time with your parents.

I’m loving your casual, but chic outfits today! I love crop pants and flats. I still wear heels on ocassions and I wear a lot of wedges in the spring and summer. Old Navy has some of the best crop pants in solids and prints. I love, love, leopard print anything. I bought a pair of leopard print flats from Target a few years ago that I’ve almost worn out. Maybe I’ll consider a pair of leopard sneakers. The pair you’re wearing look great on you! Leopard print is one of those classic, timeless, prints!
I’ve enjoyed wearing my gold bracelets from Wrist Soirée!! Thank you for your fashion forward post!!

Thanks for the fashion over 50 series. I am not there yet, but I am nocking on 50’s door in a few years. I love your style and you always look so put together. I kinda feel like a stalker cause I go thru your pics several times to see your look. Keep rocking those flats. Glad you mentioned Goodwill, it is one of my favorite places to shop.
