Fashion over 50: Summer into Fall

I’m heading to the beach tomorrow for a long weekend, so this week’s posts will be less than usual, but I wanted to get a Fashion over 50 post up.

The temps are still pretty hot here in Georgia, but I’m wearing some sleeves lately.  If I know I’ll be inside in the AC, a 3/4 sleeve or longer feels good this time of year, so today is a couple of outfits I’ve worn lately to church and other events.

These are the white jeans, Kut from the Kloth (affiliate link), that I’ve showed you before.  I’ve really enjoyed these white jeans this summer.   The top is from a boutique and the brand is Tribal, but I can’t find it online.  You can see that the back is a little longer than the front.

I love the vivid blues and greens in this top, so of course those are the colors I’m drawn to.  It has more blue on one side and more white on the other.

Paired with simple jewelry, it’s a late summer outfit that works into fall.  I’m not going to adhere to the NO white pants after Labor Day rule and will be wearing my white jeans well into fall and winter.

Turquoise jewelry completes this outfit.

Sorry for the blurry pic, but I had to set this one up on a tripod and it just doesn’t work that well.  This skirt is from Chico’s and I’ve had it for a long time. I think I picked it up at a yardsale somewhere.  This was an outfit I put together for church and the skirt is so comfortable in a jersey knit and the Covered Perfectly (affiliate link) 3/4 sleeve green top is a nice complement to the black and white print.

I love mixing a bright color with black and white and you can mix just about anything with that combo, which is why it’s one of my favorites.   I added gold jewelry to this outfit and black wedge shoes.

Here are a few ideas on black and white skirts and a couple of tops that I thought were nice:

I like the first outfit you had on but the green jersey knit looks great on you. It really stands out nicely.

Love the outfits but especially like the black and white print skirt with green top. I’m looking for more skirts and dresses these days and am having a difficult time finding ones that I like. You always look nice in whatever you have on, Rhoda.

Besutiful colors! I live in upstate South Carolina, and I’m not giving up my white jeans either. The calender may say September, but the thermometer says HOT!! And there is always winter white. Please keep up the Over 50 blogs…I’m 63, in great shape, and I’m not going down without a fight!

Good morning, I love the green top on you, WOW that is truly your color. When you mentioned Chico’s my eyes lit up. I love that store and the clothes look nice on me. The clothes are a little high in cost but they have wonderful sales to off set that. Your two colors look great together. Have a wonderful day.

I find a lot of Chico’s clothes at re-sale stores (The Clothes Mentor in Columbus) as well as Vera Bradly purses. I have never paid more than 15$ for a VB purse!

I love Chico’s. I have several pieces. Their sales are wonderful. I buy online now and then. I like the free ship.:-) However, I am now within a couple of miles of a store. Love going through the sales racks. I rarely buy anything at regular price. Plus I have a friend who keeps close watch and sends a link when she sees something in my style at a discount. Comfortable and stylish and “age appropriate” for me. My go to little black dress is at least 10 years old…Chico’s, and still doing well.

HI, Susan, thank you so much! I have to say genes play a big part of it (my dad is naturally tall & thin & I am built like he is), but I have been working out for over 30 years and I wrote a post about that here. The main thing is to keep moving and stay active. I lift weights and do cardio and have done that regularly for over 30 years, so I know that has helped with my metabolism. I try to eat pretty healthy too, although sweets are around too. I do have a sweet tooth, but in moderation.

I like both outfits. But I have to say I am crazy over the skirt and green top! You just look stunning! I love everything about this outfit down to the jewelry you have on and the way you are wearing your hair! I shouldn’t forget to mention your awesome toenail polish and open toe shoes, also adding to the total look! What a super example of a comfortable and stylish look! Thank you for sharing I really enjoyed this post!!!

My husband and I are going to make a trip out of it and I’m so excited so he will be with me as well. I have followed you so long and I’m excited to be meeting you. See you then 😉

That last top was super flattering!
Hmmm white jeans….I bought a pair this spring that were recommended by someone. I got a great deal online. The problem is they were too small, so I have them hanging up in view to remind me to GET WITH THE PROGRAM SISTER and lose some weight so I can wear them…maybe since we are prolonging white pants season, I may get in them yet this year as I have been good about my diet this week.

    Rhoda,
Both outfits look very lovely on you but I especially wanted to comment on how great your hair looks with a soft wave. You should wear it like this more often as its very becoming on you! Did you use a certain product on it to make it have more wave or just a curling iron?

Hi Teresa, it’s nice to have options. I use a curling creme to help define the curls and I don’t use a curling iron at all, this is all natural wave.
