Fashion over 50: Summer Shorts & More

Today, I’m back with a Fashion over 50, featuring a couple of my petite and curvy single friends.  You all say you love to see different body types, so here you go!

My roommate, Rhonda and I are completely different in build, so those of you who wanted me to mix it up with other body types will enjoy this.  Rhonda is petite and curvy. At almost 5’1″ and a size 6, she is just about the opposite of me in body type.  Rhonda is 60 years old and looks great.  I have some stylin’ friends, by the way!  Most all of my single girlfriends like to stay in decent shape and wear fashionable clothes.

Rhonda fashion

She’s wearing long shorts (pedal pushers, maybe)  fitted below the knee with a shirred top in leopard print.  Those shirred tops are great for disguising the middle area where there might be a little extra you want to hide.

Shorts:  Attyre

Leopard: Style and Company from Macy’s

Rhonda is not nearly as flamboyant as I am with her jewelry and because she is petite, she keeps it simple with her jewelry choices and it works well for her.  Simple silver bracelet and her new pearl earrings were a gift from her daughter from Shane Co.

Rhonda sandals

Those silver stud details on the shorts are really cute and her sandals are comfortable and fun for summer.

Black Sandals:  Cliff’s by White Mountain from Marshall’s (affiliate link here)

rhonda fashion post

Rhonda has great legs and I told her she should show them off more often.

Rhonda Black skort

Skort:  Attyre  (here’s an aqua skort in the same brand, affiliate link)

Top:  Susan Lawrence

black skort outfit

Low heeled sandals look great with a skort and it all looks very proportional on her smaller frame.

Top:  Chaus

Another similar top from Chaus (affiliate link)

black sandals

Sandals:  LifeStride (she’s had these a few years)

black white top

Another shirred top in black and white.

Jana

Here’s my cute friend, Jana.  She is 61 and always dresses really cute. She is around 5′ tall (maybe a little taller) and is about a size 4.  She has on black strechy skinny pants and a black and white top. I don’t have the details on the brands, but Jana is also petite, curvy, and busty just like Rhonda.  She dresses to accentuate her shape and most always wears a heel for a little extra height.

Jana black outfit

Jana always looks great and I love hanging out with my stylish single girlfriends. Who says we have to be frumpy over 50 or even 60?  I think you’ll agree with me that these girls are far from frumpy.

Hope you got some ideas from this Fashion over 50 post! I will try to share more of my friends along the way so that you can see other body types and styles.

Very cute! Love both on their looks in their petite clothes. At 5 ft, I dress with heels like Jana. Even if Yellow box flip flops they will have a wedge heel because I have short legs and love my legs to look longer. I dress in one color sometimes too which is elongating on a petite frame. Jana’s zebra blouse has the detail right down the middle which is a vertical element that helps to make you look taller also. Jana also has black pumps on with low vamps that continues the color to her feet or either in the summer could do skin tone sandals to match your feet. Us petites probably read every trick in the book…….ha! I love Rhonda’s black & white shirred top also with skirt. V necklines are elongating on us petites and showing skin is great too. Rhonda hair & Jana’s too are cute stylish cuts which are always fashionable on us over 50 crowd. Great job on the clothes and they both look beautiful!

There is no way you are telling the truth about their ages!! What is their skincare routine?? Their faces are so smooth and wrinkle free! Did they avoid the sun and cigarettes their whole lives? Do they use some miracle cream? Did they go under the knife? If you can share their secret please do so because I am amazed. They’re beautiful!

Hi, Kate, they both take care of their skin and haven’t had any “help” along the way in that regard. They are aging naturally! I think most of us are avoiding a lot of sun on the face now, at least I am. I did too much damage when I was younger

60 is the new 40! I am 60 and like to keep up with trends that are flattering. Your friends look great. I think staying well groomed at any age makes you feel better.

You girls rock!!! I recently saw some photos of women in the 1950’s, and they looked much older than they were because their clothes were so conservative and frumpy. I love that in my sixties I can still dress with the styles and not look frumpy but also not look as if I’m trying to be a teen.

Your friends look beautiful!! As a 5’3″ petite 55 year old, I find that pedal pushers make me appear shorter. That length tends to cut your legs into. I wear bermuda length shorts that fall right at the knee or a little above. Rhonda’s legs look so much longer in the skort!

HI, Penny, you’re right in that the longer shorts/pedal pushers can make legs look shorter, but I think it’s fine to mix things up. If you find something that you like and it’s comfortable, why not go for it? She’s got shorter lengths too.

Rhonda and Jana both look gorgeous! Rhonda definitely needs to show off those legs. The skort or skirt looks so cute on her. I love Jana’s hair. 🙂

Enjoy your blog (?). Been seeing a few before now.
Question, love the skorts. I’m 5’8″ tall, of course most skorts hit way up my thighs. .what length would you say is approximately the proper lenght…they should be to wear out shopping or to casual gatherings?
Btw, will wear capris in question, myself…thanks

HI, Glenda, I think it’s totally what you are comfortable with, but I don’t go too short with shorts anymore. Maybe 5 inches above the knee for me. I definitely go for longer lengths these days and don’t show too much anymore. Amazing how that changes as we get older. It think it depends on the shape of your legs too. Some women age really well in their legs and some don’t. Give yourself a critical eye in the mirror and figure out what your best features are and accent those. I don’t like to see older ladies showing too much skin when they shouldn’t be. Some things are better left covered up.

Wow, there is no way Rhonda is 60! She looks fabulous! You need to try a little heel, it would look great with your legs!

Good to see real women with real bodies. They look fantastic and gorgeous. Just the right amount of jewelry to keep it classy. You don’t have to wear multiples of everything to look well put together. Muted colors are very relaxed and age appropriate. These ladies are perfect examples of aging gracefully with class. Please show more examples like these.

Hey Rhoda……Meant to thank you earlier for doing the petite post since I was probably one that asked also. On pedal pusher, capris……I try not to do them either…..shortie legs here and do a pant around the ankle that is slimmer & skinny. Heels are my best friend and for other petites out there in an Oprah magazine newsletter I got recently they have heel lifts for closed winter boots & shoes now. How cool is that! http://www.oprah.com/gift/Invisible-Heels-Style-Sheet-2015?editors_pick_id=56860
