I’m trying something different today for Fashion over 50. I’ve seen lots of fashion bloggers do dressing room try ons, so I am trying that today! I stopped in my local Target and found a few things that would be good for this time of year, so come along with me.
Now here’s a disclaimer. Never go into Target with the thought that you’re just going to try something on. Inevitably, you’ll find something that comes home with you, just as what happened to me. I brought 2 things home.
I’ve been thinking about a casual Fall dress that I could wear with boots and this middy plaid flannel dress fits the bill. It will be perfect with my brown boots and that rust sweater I got at Target. I tried on a Small, but it was a little tight when I sat down, so I got the Medium instead, but it’s Small in this pic. I’ve got hips so that gets me sometimes.
I’m going out of town to Nashville this weekend and I’m taking this dress with me. I like the longer hem in the back and the little slit. Ignore my bare feet and try to envision these with shoes. Next time I’ll take some shoes into the dressing room with me. If you all like this idea, I’ll do more of it. I can’t buy everything I try on though!
Here it is at home with my brown boots. It’s not sexy or anything, but it’s a cute dress for Fall and Winter months with boots.
I can wear it with the rust cardigan too.
I decided to try on some of their Universal Threads jeans and see how they fit and I was happily surprised that they are stretchy and fit well. These are high rise skinny cropped jeans in a dark wash and at $24.99 very reasonable. I haven’t tried on jeans in Target for a long time.
This tee shirt is nice too, from A New Day brand. It was on sale for $7 (reg. $10) so I brought it home too. I love these kinds of pieces for layering under jackets. This one has stretch and is longer for tucking in if you want. It’s very soft and comfy.
Target has decent plaid shirts too and this black and white one is affordable and cute.
The shirt tail is nice and long.
These animal print pants from Who What Wear are really cute. I thought they would look great for a Holiday party, pared with a sparkly top or sweater and heels. They are cropped and very stretchy but have a slim silhouette.
I think the pants are a winner. I picked up this top to go with it, but it’s a little too shiny for my taste, so disregard it. I really like the pants if you’re in the market for affordable somewhat dressy pants for the Holiday season.
This Who What Wear furry coat caught my eye and the watermelon red is such a pretty color. I’m wearing a S/XS but it’s very roomy. It’s a fun coat for the season.
It’s double breasted with pockets and would be fun for this time of year.
Just picture these things with the proper shoes and how cute they would be. Let me know if you like this trying on in the dressing room idea and I’ll do more of it. It’s tough though not to find something to bring home doing this! These are just a few ideas I thought I’d put out there for you.

Love the dressing room try on idea. Love the plaid dress, I think it would look great with cowboy boots & maybe a fringed shawl or scarf of some kind. And the duster idea with jeans would look good on you as well! Love your blog!!
Hi, Debbie, that’s a great idea too. I think it can be worn a few different ways and I’ll be experimenting.
Fun post! I enjoy the dressing room type posts. All your posts are good!

I really like all of them on you, especially the plaid dress and the black and white outfit with the coat.
Fun post. I’m afraid I envy you getting into small sizes.😀 But Ido love your Wednesday Fashion Over 50.
Oh My, i said in a recent post we lived in Our rv and i can’t have many clothes. But, i am heartbroken about getting rid of my red pLaid flannel shirt dress from Target. I Thought i would be in key west clothes all the time and now i am looking at snow in viRginia. target jeans are the best. AM i shouting or is the new font for posts on the phoNe?
Hi, Nancy, doesn’t look like shouting from here. I’m sure it’s hard living in an RV and trying not to overpack it.

I loved all the things you tried on….but especially the watermelon colored coat at the end. It’s so fluffy and wintry looking. The kind of thing I wore in my younger days. Of course, as I’ve said before…..everything looks good on you Rhoda!!!
Thank you, Diane, that coat was so fun. The Color alone was so happy and bright!
Love dressing room try-ons! That dress and those pants…❤️

Love the dressing room posts. It’s been so long since I’ve actually went clothes shopping I don’t even know where to start. Love to see the way to use different pieces together and also suggestions of what to wear them with. I’ve had to live with a small space also so getting one thing that can function for several occasions is such a plus. Thanks for your doing the leg work! It can take a long time to try on clothes.
Thanks, Adele, I’m so glad you enjoyed!

I love seeing you in the clothes you try on. I really appreciate your over 50 wardrobe posts.
We need to remember that we don’t have to dress “frumpy”! ( I don’t because I have a 30’s fashion savy daughter who won’t let me! Thank goodness!) But I am glad you show all of us we too can dress cute & stylish!
Love all your posts.
You have a beautiful home and style.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Betsy, I appreciate that!

Hi Rhoda! The dressing room try ons are a great addition to your fashion over 50 posts! I always enjoy them as they give a nice perspective on what is “age appropriate” without breaking the bank. As a recent retiree, this is especially appreciated! As a final note, Love the universal thRead jeans. Not only Are they reasonably priced and fit well, but they come in tall sizes!!
HI, Cheri, that’s good to know too. Tall used to be hard to find.
I like the dressing room idea. I don’t really like shopping for clothes so this might give some
inspiration. Instead of clothes, I like shopping for home accessories the best so clothes inspiration is nice from you.
I like this post, too. I enjoyed reading why you chose or discarded the items you selected.

Count me as a fan of the dressing room posts. I shop at Target and have worn their clothes. I think they are on trend and a good value.
I am looking forward to seeing you dressed to go out in your animal print pants!
